PDP Unveils Guitar Designs for Aly & AJ Game Controllers
Back in June, we talked a little bit about the guitar controllers bearing the name and designed with the assistance of tween rockers Aly & AJ. The controllers will come from PDP and actual product shots are now available.
The guitar controllers are suitably girly with bright pink colors and heart shapes. Girls looking to get into music games like Guitar Hero can now have their own feminine controllers. Both guitars are wireless and are said to be available in mid-October for $69.99 each. Read more

Indilinx Completes Development of SSD Drive Controller with 90 nm Process Techno
Indilinx is a fabless semiconductor company and today it announced the development of its IDX22 that carries the product name Barefoot. Barefoot is a high-performance SSD controller that uses 90 nm process technology and delivers a read speed of 230 MB/s making it the fastest SSD controller on the market.
The SSD controller can support SSD drives a capacity of up to 512 GB that use multi-level cell NAND flash. Barefoot supports native SATA 2.0 (3 Gbps) interface and provides a maximum read speed of 230 MB/s and a maximum write speed of 170 MB/s with SLC NAND flash. Using MLC NAND flash, read speeds of 200 MB/s and write speeds of 160 MB/s are possible. The controller also features four independent operating channels and an external DRAM buffer. Read more

Full Size Wood Guitar Controller for PS3 and PS2 from Peak Products
Music based games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are among some of the hottest titles right now. The problem is that the plastic guitars that ship with the games tend to not hold up well. My Rock Band Guitar stopped working correctly a few months after I bought the game.
Peak Products has one seriously sweet guitar controller for fans of Guitar games called the Starpex. The controller is the first full size wood guitar controller for both the PS2 and the PS3. The Starpex is instrument quality and has a hardwood body with an all wood neck and headstock. Peak says that the controller was made by a leading manufacturer of guitars. Read more

Energizer and PDP to Team Up for Video Game Controllers
Video game controller and accessory maker PDP is teaming up with battery maker Energizer for a line of Energizer gaming peripherals. The two companies will make and sell Energizer charging docks, charging cables, and battery packs for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 consoles.
The energizer branded products will have prices ranging from $9.99 to $39.99. Game controllers are high drain devices and anyone who owns a Wii knows that the batteries have to be replaced frequently. Read more

Girl Gamers Get Guitar Controllers from Aly & AJ
Despite the fact that I have never heard of Aly & AJ it seems they are a popular pop group with tweens. The group and PDP, a maker of video game controllers for all consoles, have teamed up to offer girl gamers a pair of guitar controllers.
The guitar controllers are for use with Guitar Hero and will be available starting in September. At this time there isn’t even a picture of the controllers, but they are said to be boldly colored and have vibrant designs. Each of the guitars is wireless and will retail for $69.99. Read more

Mtron Next Gen 260MB/s SSD Controller Tech Introduced
Mtron has unveiled its new SSD controller technology that will allow 260MB/s SSD drives to come to market. Mtron says it will be launching new SSDs in early 2009 utilizing the new controller. Products using this controller will be twice as fast as current generation SSD drives.
The controller technology uses 8-channels to provide a maximum read speed of 260MB/s and a maximum write speed of 240MB/s. According to Mtron these drives will be more than twice as fast as any other SSDs on the market. Mtron also unveiled new SSD drives using current technology for the aviation, military and medical industries. Read more

Sony PS3 'break apart' Controller in the Works?
We already have a rumor that Microsoft is working on a motion controller for the Xbox 360. Now there is a new rumor that Sony is working also on a new motion controller that can "break apart" into two separate units.
Each of the controller units would contain an accelerometer like the Wii controllers.

Texas Instruments Introduces Breakthrough Microcontrollers
Texas instruments announced a new line of microcontrollers today that it claims offers a breakthrough in performance while requiring a miniscule amount of power. The microcontrollers are from the MSP430F5xx family and offer up to 25MHz of performance with as 160 µA/MHz of power needed.
The controllers will enable portable devices to have longer battery life, additional memory, and on-chip peripherals. The peripherals include things like RF, USB, encryption and LCD interfaces. TI says that the microcontroller will be seen in devices like consumer electronics, home automation, and more. Read more

Asus shows Wii inspired Motion Controllers for Eee PC
Asus exhibited at the Computex 2008 the Asus Eee Stick. The Asus Eee Stick consists of two motion controllers similar to the Nintendo Wii controllers.
The Asus Eee controller incorporates one navigation controller, one activation controller, and a dongle to provide users with motion, pointing and tilt functions.

Velocity Reviews tested the XBox 360 PC Controller and published a review.

Nintendo Loses $21 million in Lawsuit Over Controllers
According to law firm McKool Smith it has won a jury verdict against Nintendo in the amount of $21 million. The firm represented a Texas-based company called Anascape Ltd against Nintendo of America.
The suit has been in litigation for 2-years with allegations that Nintendo of America had sold several video game controllers that infringed upon patents held by Anascape. The controllers at the heart of the suit included the GameCube controller, GameCube Wavebird controller, Wii Classic controller, and the Wii Remote. Read more

Qmotions to Bring Next Gen Wireless Controllers to Xbox
Qmotions has some interesting controllers that allow gamers who play skateboard or snowboarding games to use realistic boards rather than a controller to play. Qmotions announced that it would be bringing its next generation wireless controllers to the Xbox 360.
The agreement between Qmotions and Microsoft will allow Qmotions controllers to be fully Microsoft endorsed. The first controller from Qmotions for the Xbox 360 will be in stores in the second half of 2008. The controller will be a wireless active game controller called the Qmotions-Big Air. The controller is a full sized skate board that works with skateboard games currently on the market. Read more

Mad Catz Announces Arsenal Soccer Team Branded Controller
Mad Catz announced today that it will be producing video game controllers with the Arsenal Football Club logo on it. Arsenal is a soccer team that plays in the English Premier League. The agreement between Mad Catz and the Arsenal team allows them to distribute the controllers in Europe.

The rumble is finally coming to Sony PS3 consoles in the United States. Amazon.com is shipping the wireless Dualshock 3 controller tomorrow April 4th for $54.99. You can of course pre-order today.
Sony published a site listing compatible PS3 games where you can enjoy force feedback as we all know it from the PS2.

Mad Catz to Produce Officially Licensed NASCAR Controllers and Racing Wheels
Mad Catz announced this week that it had secured a license agreement with NASCAR to produce NASCAR branded steering wheels and related accessories for all video game platforms. New MGS4 Sony PS3 Bundle with DUALSHOCK 3 Controller
Sony announced a new 80GB Sony PS3 bundle featuring Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots and the new DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller.
The new 80GB Sony PS3 bundle will ship late Q2 and sell for $499. The shipping date for MGS 4 is June 12th according to Amazon.com. I assume that June 12th will be also the shipping date for the new 80GB Sony PS3 bundle.

Novint Launches Black Falcon Controller and Pistol Grip
Novint has been showing off its Falcon controller for a while now. I played with it at QuakeCon 2007 and thought it was pretty interesting. Today Novint announced it was adding a couple new products to the lineup.
A Falcon controller in black is being added to the two tone silver and black version we have all seen before. Novint has also added a pistol grip controller to the line as well. The black version of the Falcon will retail for $199.99 and the pistol grip will sell for $19.99. Read more

Mad Catz offers wireless Sony PS3 controllers in all NFL team logo designs.
The photo shows the Green Bay Packers version.
The PS3 controllers feature multidirectional SixSense technology, quick-fire triggers, analog joysticks and 8-way-D pad.
The release of the NFL PS3 controllers is well timed as the Madden NFL 08 game from EA is shipping on August 14th. The NFL game is available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
