Heckler & Koch MP5 Wiimote Controller? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Lightguns usually look pretty lame. That's intentional on the part of the designers; parents tend to complain when kids get badass, realistic looking guns for their gaming consoles. Apparently one company didn't get that memo, however. A Chinese manufacturer has put together a 1:1 scale semi-accurate representation of the Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine gun that functions as a Wiimote.

And not just a Wiimote. According to Pocket Lint this awesome new light gun functions as a nunchuck and a Wii MotionPlus. It contains a built-in battery and recharges via USB. It also comes with a speaker, and rumble functionality.

Sony Motion Controller: Spring Release? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

A French gaming website, Objectif Sega has uncovered an internal Sega memo (Gizmodo says it looks "legit") that speaks to a March launch in Japan for Sony's new motion-capture controller.

The controller should hit the US later on in the Spring, and with it will come a bunch of new Sega games. According to the memo, Sony is in talks with Sega about gaining a long-term exclusivity agreement to the rights of several major Dreamcast titles. (For you young'ns; the Dreamcast was a Sega console that failed spectacularly.) That is very exciting news. For all its flaws, the Dreamcast had some of the best games of its generation.

Nintendo Developing Horseback Wii Controller?

Topic:

Nintendo Developing Horseback Wii Controller? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Nintendo has always been a bit of an odd duck. The history of their brand is peppered with weird controller designs, like the power glove, or that rocket launcher that everyone wanted but couldn't get their parents to buy for them. With the advent of the Wii, Nintendo has continued to bring innovative (and bizarre) new controller designs out to the fore.

Now it appears they've taken yet another step into uncharted territory. Siliconera reported today on a patent application from Nintendo for a horseback riding Wii controller. This controller takes the form of an inflatable seat with a pocket for the Wiimote to fit into. It senses movement using the accelerometer, and players can hold the nunchuck to stimulate either reins, a sword, lasso, or anything else game designers can come up with.

Clone Trooper Blaster Controller Comes to the Wii

Topic:

Clone Trooper Blaster Controller Comes to the Wii Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

You can never have enough light guns. Duck Hunt bred into nerds a deep and abiding love of the gun-controller combo. This new controller is another Star Wars product from BDA (the same folks who made the lightsaber controller we introduced earlier) designed to be used alongside the upcoming Clone Wars: Republic Heroes video game.

The Clone Trooper blaster works with both the Wiimote and the Wii nunchuk. It features a dual-action trigger (one on the barrel and one on the nunchuck) and looks pretty awesome as well. This is definitely one of the sexier light guns to hit the market in a while. The blaster also comes with a sheet of decals so that you can personalize your weapon with battle-damage and kill markings. Y'know, just in case you're still 12 years old inside.

New Wii Lightsaber Controllers Coming

Topic:

New Wii Lightsaber Controllers Coming Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Great news Star Wars nerds! Our childhood dreams are about to come true. Bensussen Deutsch & Associates, Inc (BDA) are coming out with the first (and so far only) Lucasfilm-licensed Wii lightsabers on the market. BDA's Power A lightsabers are replicas of the weapons used by Anakin Skywalker and Master Yoda.

To use these new lightsabers all you'll need to do is slide the Wiimote into the lightsaber handle and power on the saber's light-up feature. Yoda's glows green, and Anakin's glows blue. I suppose we'll have to wait a bit longer before we see a licensed Sith lightsaber. No price details are out yet, but we can expect these new peripherals to hit stores in the Fall.

Wii Classic Controller Pro: Coming to U.S?

Topic:

Wii Classic Controller Pro: Coming to U.S? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

The only problem with the awesome Wii Classic Controller Pro is that you can't really get one outside of Japan. It fills a great gaming niche (some of us love old fashioned button-filled controllers), but there's never been enough demand in this country to make stepping up production worthwhile for Nintendo. At least not until now.

While wandering the floor at E3, Joystiq caught site of a pair of Classic Controller Pro's sitting around on display. When asked, none of the Nintendo employees had any idea why the controllers were there or what they meant. Nintendo didn't announce a U.S. release during their conference, but that doesn't really mean very much.

Project Natal + Sony Motion Controller + HMD = Johnny Mnemonic Cyberspace

Topic:

Project Natal + Sony Motion Controller + HMD = Johnny Mnemonic Cyberspace Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review I was into Cyberspace and Virtual Reality back in the late Eighties and early Nineties. William Gibson Cyberpunk books described the future of interacting with computers how I thought it should be.
In 1995 William Gibson's Johnny Mnemonic got released as movie starring Keanu Reeves. The Cyberspace UI was ok depicted in the movie, of course your own imagination is always better. After working in the 3D and Virtual Reality field I totally got frustrated with it as the interaction possibilities in 3D just plain sucked. Read more

PlayStation 3 Motion Controller: Spring 2010

PlayStation 3 Motion Controller: Spring 2010 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

It looks like a big wand with a glowing purple ball on the end. According to the Sony techs, the PlayStation EyeToy tracks the big glowing ball in order to capture your motion as you play. From the demo we are seeing, the Eye is capable of replacing the control in the virtual world with things like baseball bats, guns, and even a laser whip.

Sony is very excited about the artistic potential of their new motion controller. The new controller is capable of capturing even tiny little motions so that you can draw or write your name with a fairly high degree of accuracy. We also got to see them use a spray paint cannister (which they had to shake up before using) and 'tag' a brick wall.
