According to Cool Hunting (Via Engadget) the Self Edge store is using a small credit card reader that plugs into the iPhone headphone jack. After typing the amount on the iPhone credit card reader app, the customer just signs with his finger and provides an email address where the invoice should be sent to. Read more

Have you ever tried to order something online with a mobile phone? It's one of the most infuriating experiences you can have that doesn't involve physical injury. The keyboard and screen are just way too small to easily enter in credit card numbers without difficulty. This is not a desirable state of affairs for online retailers, especially those who stake their bread and butter on impulse buys like ring-tones and items in online video games.

Retailers want smartphone shopping to be as easy and intuitive as it can possibly be. The less of a hassle it is, the more likely you'll be to make those silly little impulse purchases. Spending a couple of bucks a month on ring-tones doesn't seem like much to you, but the sheer number of smartphone owners (and the potential for growth within the smartphone market) makes it a very lucrative enterprise.

The iCache device stores the magnetic information from your credit cards along with pin numbers internally and uses a biometric fingerprint scanner to limit access to the information. To use the device you authenticate and then scroll to the card you would like to use and the iCache puts the card info onto a card that you can swipe like a normal credit card. Read more

In Germany there a still lots of people not owning a credit card. This is one of the reasons online shopping is not developing as fast as in the US for instance.
Now German parents can get their kids a prepaid credit card, if the kids are able to convince them. This might be especially difficult if the parents do not have a credit card themselves.
The credit card terms are not bad. There are no yearly fees, 2% interest on the prepaid balance and the card works like a normal Visa card.
