Canon 50D DSLR Gets Official

Photos and specs for the Canon EOS 50D DSLR camera were leaked earlier this week. Accusations were flying that the camera was a fake, but now Canon has officially announced the 50D. The camera features a 15.1-megapixel resolution, expanded ISO range and enhanced noise reduction.

The image sensor is Canon's new DIGIC 4 unit and utilizes a new Creative Auto Mode to allow for creative image enhancement without needing to be a photography expert. The 50D can shoot 6.3 frames per second bursts of up to 90 large/fine JPEGS or 16 RAW images to a UDMA CF card. Read more

Canon Eos Rebel XS Entry Level DSLR Launches

Canon has announced its latest entry level DSLR camera aimed at photographers looking to make the jump from a point-and-shoot into the DSLR world. The camera is called the EOS Rebel XS. Canon says the Rebel XS was designed to be easy to use and non-intimidating.

The XS has a 10.1MP CMOS sensor and features Live View, Auto Lighting Optimizer, 7-point wide area autofocus and can shoot at 3 frames per second continuously. The camera is expected to ship in august in a kit version that includes an EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens, rechargeable battery and charger, cables and more for $699.99. the lens itself can be had for $199.99. Samsung GX-20 DSLR Camera

Samsung recently announced its latest DSLR camera called the GX-20. The camera is a 14 megapixel camera and features a new CMPS sensor. The camera is capable of shooting 14-bit RAW images and high ISO settings up to 6400.

Shake reduction is built-in as well as a double dust-removal system. “This is an exciting time for Samsung,” said Stewart Henderson Vice President Marketing, Samsung Opto-Electronics America. “The DSLR market is one of the fastest growing segments of the imaging industry, one which Samsung has served quite well over the past few years with our previous GX-Series DSLRs. Nikon Announces New DSLR Lens with Vibration Reduction

Nikon announced a new lens for its compatible DSLR cameras recently called the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm VR lens. The lens is a 3x optical zoom and incorporates vibration reduction in an affordable package that will retail for around $199.

Nikon says the lens is ideal for wide-angle landscape shooting and works for moderate telephoto use for portraits as well. The VR technology allows photographers to take images at slower shutter speeds without as much blurring, as you would otherwise get. Read more

Nikon D40x DSLR Camera Review

Olympus Announces New DSLR Camera Called the E-3

Olympus announced its new top-of-the-line E-3 DSLR camera today scheduled to be released on November 23. Olympus claims to have the world’s fastest auto focus with 11-point full twin cross sensoring.

Sequential shooting of up to 5 fps is possible with shutter speeds of up to 1/8000 second. The image sensor is a 10.1MP high-speed Live MOS sensor using TruePic III image processing engine. Read more

Sony is expanding its Alpha digital SLR camera line with the introduction of the DSLR-A700 camera, which is aimed at photo enthusiasts or serious photo hobbyists.

Like the Sony DSLR-A100 model, the new A700 SLR incorporates Super SteadyShot Inside image stabilization in the camera body and is compatible with most Minolta Maxxum mount lenses in addition to Sony lenses. Read more

Sensor Scope Helps Clean Your DSLR Camera

If you shoot pics with a digital SLR camera and change lens frequently you know how easy it is to get dirt and debris onto the CCD of your camera. If the CCD is not cleaned the dirt and debris will show up in your pictures.

Seeing where the tiny dirt particles are on the CCD of your camera is one of the most difficult parts of the cleaning process. To help make that easier the Sensor Scope uses a 5x magnifier and four built-in LED lights. Read more

Nikon D40 DSLR Review

"Nothing surprising here. The all-black D40 looks like every other D-SLR out there other than the Nikon logo just below the auto pop-up flash. Anyone looking for something special design-wise won’t find it here. Utilitarian is the best descriptor. This camera is rather lightweight, tipping the scales at 27.4 ounces including supplied lens, battery, strap and card. Surprisingly, the Canon XTi feels much more substantial even though it only weighs an ounce more. And it weighs four ounces less than the D80; Nikon had to strip some features in order to hit the sub-$600 price for this “Made In Thailand” camera.
Simply put: it does not have the feel or build of other D-SLRs recently reviewed such as the Canon Digital Rebel XTi, Sony alpha or Pentax K10D.

Not only does this new Pentax have a 10.2-megapixel CCD, it also has built-in Shake Reduction and a cleaning system to keep dust off the imaging device (and your prints). It’s also built to take a bit of beating since it’s weather resistant and has tight seals to keep dust out of the body. Not only that, it costs less than $1,000 with a lens, a very reasonable price but above the Sony alpha which has similar features (10MP CCD, image stabilization) but not nearly as rugged a body. It’s also more affordable than the 10MP Nikon D80 ($999, body only) that doesn’t have shake reduction.

I was pretty excited taking this one out the box and couldn’t wait for the battery to charge. After sitting around for a few hours (no, we weren’t as bad as Southpark’s Eric Cartman waiting for the introduction of the Nintendo Wii) it was time to see how this new D-SLR performed. "
