Dell Mini 3i: Now US Ready?

Topic:

Dell Mini 3i: Now US Ready? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Here's an interesting bit of news for you Android fans hoping to do your smartphone browsing on a Dell-made gadget. The Dell Mini 3i, confirmed as bound for the US, has just shown up on Brazilian website Celular Cafe (via Electronista). Apparently, this new version of the 3i sports 3G UMTS/HSDPA support on 1850 MHz, 1950 MHz, and 2100 MHz bands.

Why is this important? Because this is the first version of the 3i we've seen that will be compatible with US 3G. The 850 MHz component is pretty clear evidence that a version of the 3i is headed for the US in short order. Y'know, if the word of Michael Dell himself wasn't enough proof of that already.

Sprint Launches The Dell Mini 10 Netbook Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Alright, so the rumors were a day off. The Dell Mini 10 still launched today on Sprint's 3G network. Their press release makes this bog standard 10.1” Windows XP netbook sound much more exciting than it really is. The Mini 10 features an Atom Z520 processor, 160 GB HD, WiFi and 1.3 MP camera. That's about as 'run of the mill' as a netbook gets.

Sprint Offering Dell Mini 10, November 1st?

Topic:

Sprint Offering Dell Mini 10, November 1st? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Next month, Sprint will join the ranks of carriers that offer subsidized netbooks with a data plan subscription. TechVI.com reports (via Electronista) that the Dell mini 10 will be coming to the Sprint network on November 1st. The netbook will have a 3G modem, a 160 GB HD, 1 GB of RAM, and an Atom processor. The cost puts this mini 10 in line with a smartphone purchase; $199, after a $100 rebate.

You'll have to purchase the netbook with a subscription, of course. The plan for the mini 10 is set to cost $60/month for 5 GB of data. On the whole this deal sounds, well, perfectly inoffensive. The price is reasonable (though the rebate is annoying) and the mini 10 is a fine, if rather low-end, machine.

Dell Android MID 'The Streak' Seen Vietnam

Topic:

Dell Android MID 'The Streak' Seen Vietnam Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Apparently Dell is as much of an Android fanatic as those of us who dropped $200 on the G1 last year. Confirmation that the 3i Android smartphone would be heading to the U.S. was exciting enough on its own. Now we're hearing news that Dell also has an Android MID (via SlashGear) headed for the U.S. I've never had any reason to be excited about a Dell product before, but this news has me quivering with glee.

Screenshots of the MID, codenamed the Streak, came initially from Vietnamese-based Tinhte.com. They state that the MID features a 5" WVGA touchscreen, packs Android 2.0, is WiFi capable and 3G enabled, and has a 5 MP camera with a dual LED flash. It's also got a microSD card and a 1300 mAH battery. The model variant is listed as "US", which is proof that this sexy little piece of Android-goodness is bound for the States. The most exciting thing about this MID has to be the front-facing camera stuck on the left side of the display. That means this device will be perfect for video conferencing.

Michael Dell Confirms Mini 3i U.S. Bound

Topic:

Michael Dell Confirms Mini 3i U.S. Bound Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Despite the fact that it uses sub-par hardware and is made mostly of plastic, there's a lot of excitement around the Dell Mini 3i Android smartphone. Rumors abound of a possible, near-future revamp of the smartphone, followed by a U.S. release. Now we have the best confirmation possible of that rumor. Michael Dell, the company's founder and CEO, has stated flat-out in an interview that the 3i will be making its way to our shores.

Dell confirmed the rumor in an interview with TechPulse (via Android and Me). The 3i that is set to launch here will probably be very different in specs than the Chinese model. Expected changes include a boost to the camera from 3 MP to 5. TechPulse believes that we're due for an early 2010 launch, although exact dates are not available.

Dell Shows Off Nail Polish Studio Designs for Women

Topic:

Dell Shows Off Nail Polish Studio Designs for Women Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review If the baseball team logos are for the guys at the Dell Design Studio, these new colors based on OPI nail polish are certainly for the girls. Dell has announced that it will be offering 26 colors on its laptops that are from the OPI nail polish collection.

These colors are called red or purple, they get names that are like “I’m Not Really a Waitress,” “Big Apple Red,” “Strawberry Margarita,” “Rosy Future” and “Kyoto Pearl." The lids of the notebooks aren’t just the color either; it appears that the nail polish color was swirled around in a big vat as a photo was snapped. Read more

Dell Adds Baseball Laptops to Design Studio Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The Dell Design Studio has been around for a while now and lets users choose colors and finishes for their laptops along with the hardware inside the machines. Topic:

Dell Android Mini 3i U.S. Bound? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Remember a few months back, when Dell released their Android 3i smartphone in China? I think many of us feared the ultra-thin smartphone would never reach beyond those borders. According to TechCrunch, we were wrong. They have heard rumors that Dell plans to bring the 3i to the U.S. within the "next few months" in order to compete with the new bevy of Android releases.

As it currently stands, the 3i is not ready for U.S. sale. TechCrunch's source states that he believes it will be upgraded in both form and function before it comes to our shores. The Chinese version has a 3 megapixel camera, ours will have a 5. The UI is designed to mimic the iPhone, and Dell has apparently decided to alter Android in such a way that some apps will not work with their phone.

Dell Latitude Z: Wireless Charging?

Dell Latitude Z: Wireless Charging? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Okay, so here's the rundown; Forbes.com (via Engadget) thinks the recession is close to an end. And so does Dell. That's why they're gearing up to start producing a fantastically expensive laptop designed for corporate use.

As the recession dies, businesses will start to look at finally updating their now last-generation technology. No high-level executive wants to be caught without tons of expensive gear, which is exactly what the Dell Latitude Z is being built to be. It'll have a 16" screen, an Intel processor, and "advanced wireless capabilities" that -may- include wireless charging. There is no price info yet, but Forbes notes that it should be a "good deal" more than $1,100.
