Prinics Digital Photo Frame with Printer Launches

Prinics is certainly not a name I am familiar with, but it has a new product that is cool. The product is a digital photo frame that has a built-in printer. This would allow you to view and print your digital pictures without needing a computer.

The frame can print 5x7, 5x4, 3.5x4, and 3 x 4 images. The print cartridge installs on the side of the frame and the device has a graphics interface for printing the images out. The frame is available with both 7-inch and 8-inch screens. Read more

Kodak EasyShare P520 Digital Photo Frame

Digital photo frames get more popular each year and are typically one of the more popular gift items at the holidays. The new EasyShare P520 uses a quick touch navigation bar to allow you to navigate through the menus and keep fingerprints off the screen.

The menu bar is in the white bevel of the screen. The frame allows you to create and edit slide shows on the frame and add background music if you want. The frame has a USB port for loading images from the flash drive and can be turned off and on with a set schedule. Read more

Samsung Announces L310W Digital Camera

Samsung announced another new digital camera at IFA called the L310W. Samsung says that the camera is designed for intermediate users and has a 13.6MP lens. Other features of the camera include dual image stabilization, a 2.7-inch LCD and a 3.6x optical zoom lens.

The lens is a 28mm wide-angle unit allowing more of the scene to be in an image at the same time. Other features include auto red eye fix, MPEG-4 video recording, face detection, blink detection, smile shot, beauty shot, self portrait and more. Read more

Broadcom to Acquire AMD Digital TV Business

Broadcom and AT&T announced that they have entered into an agreement that would allow Broadcom to purchase AMD's digital TV business. Broadcom says it expects the purchase to enable it to immediately scale its DTV business in conjunction with existing products and offer a line of products covering the market from low-end to high-end offerings.

Broadcom says that about 530 employees formerly of AMDs dedicated DTV team will be included in the purchase and certain employees directly supporting this team are included as well. AMD's DTV line includes the Xilleon DTV processor and Theater 300 DTV Processor along with other processors for improving motion compensation and frame rate. Read more

Canon shipped 100 Million compact Digital Cameras

Canon today announced that it has reached a new milestone by shipping its 100 millionth compact digital camera.
Canon first began producing digital cameras in 1996 at Oita Canon Inc., which continues to handle the bulk of the company's digital camera production, in addition to such manufacturing subsidiaries as Canon Opto (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and Canon Zhuhai, Inc. in China.

Since releasing the PowerShot 600 (photo) as Canon's first compact digital camera for sale to the general public in July 1996, the company has thus far launched a total of 106 digital camera models across the globe. Read more

Key Digital announced a new high-end digital video processor and switcher this week called the KD-VP2000. The sKD-VP2000 is capable of scaling, de-interlacing, up-converting, and down-converting video.

The device can up-convert SD, HD, XGA, WXGA analog and digital resolutions to a single output with up to 1080p resolution along with down-converting XGA, WXGA, and HDTV resolutions to SD. Seven different video inputs are included with VGA, HDMI, S-video and Composite available and up to five different video outputs. The KD-VP2000 retails for $2000. Read more

Shinano Kenshi Corporation (SKC) announced it is launching a new Plextalk Pocket digital recorder and player. The device is pocket-sized voice and book recorder and player that SKC says is the world's first crossover media player/recorder.

The recorder weighs 3 ounces and can fit in small shirt pockets and listeners can use it to play Daisy Digital Talking Books, music, and more. It features a bookmark feature to allow users to return to where they left off the last time the device was used. The player also includes ear buds and can directly read HTML input from SD cards and USB memory. The battery in the device is good for ten hours. Read more

Western Digital Announces Fiscal 2008 Q4 Revenue

It has been a big week for Western Digital. WD announced a 2.5-inch version of its VelociRaptor hard drive this week and now it is announcing its earnings for Q4 of its fiscal 2008 year. WD posted revenue of $8.1 billon and an operating income of $1 billion.

WD says net income was $867 million, or $3.84 per share. The prior year net income was $564 million or $2.50 per share. WD says that the fiscal year showed an increase in revenue of 48% compared to fiscal 2007’s $5.5 billion. Revenue in Q4 totaled $2 billion and WD shipped 35.2 million units in the quarter with an operating income of $241 million. Read more

Kodak Shows Off new Wi-Fi Digital Frames

Kodak has been announced a lot of new products recently and to go along with the new camera and HD set top box Kodak has announced a pair of new wireless digital photo frames. The new frames include the Kodak EasyShare W820 and W1020 models. The W820 is an 8-inch frame and the W1020 is a 10-inch frame.

Both share the same features including built-in Wi-Fi for streaming images directly to the frame from your PC. The images on the frame can be controlled with the Quick Touch Border for touch or slide operation. Internal storage is 512MB and the frame can be customized to match the décor of the home with two included mattes. Both frames are going to be available in August at undisclosed pricing. Read more
