Vivitar Waterproof Digital Camera is Three Kinds of Ugly
Vivitar has a new digital camera that just might be the most hideous piece of digital camera tech to ever roll off the assembly line. It appears to be colored in a safety orange hue, perhaps to help keep the photographer from being shot if the cam is used on a hunting expedition. The color may go over well here in Texas at the University of Texas as well.
Ugly looks aside, the cam is waterproof to 30 feet so you can take pics as you swim or dive. The LCD display is a 2” color TFT and it packs in 4x digital zoom. The CCD is 6 megapixels and it can snap images at 2816 x 2112, 2272 x 1704, 1600 x 1200, and 640 x 480. Read more

Olympus SP-550 UZ 7.1MP Digital Camera Review
Our review partner Digital Trends reviews the Olympus SP-550 UZ 7.1MP Digital Camera.
Quote from the review:
"We’ve all heard the jokes and seen the cute ads about how bigger is better. Since this is a decidedly G-rated site, our discussion of the biggest one out there has to do with mega-zoom digital cameras. In this case it’s the 7.1-megapixel Olympus SP-550UZ, a compact point-and-shoot digicam with an 18x optical zoom that’s equivalent to a very wide 28mm to a whopping 504mm in 35mm terms. No other model comes close to this; the very popular 6MP Canon PowerShot S3 IS and Sony CyberShot DSC-H2/H5 have 12x zooms with typical ranges of 36-432mm.

Samsung NV10 Digital Camera
If your spouse is anything like my wife, the top of the Christmas list may well be a tiny digital camera. Personally, I prefer a larger camera like my PowerShot S2 IS, but the wife wants tiny camera that can fit in her pocket.
While I was reviewing, the Circuit City 24/24 guarantee I bought one for her from Samsung called the NV10. I am quite familiar with the Samsung name in computer electronics and they make some fantastic LCD displays and hard drives, this was my first experience with a Samsung digital camera.
I am quite impressed to say the least. As tiny as the little cam is, it measures in at a mere 2.4” x 2.8” x .07” and weighs 5.2 ounces, it has a whopping 10-megapixel resolution. Samsung uses SD cards for storage and even at the full 10 MP, you can get about 300 pics on a 1GB SD card according to the cams LCD display. Read more

The Top Selling Digital Cameras are still all from Canon
Will this ever change? The top 8 selling digital cameras on Amazon.com are all from Canon. Only Sony is able to place one under the top 10 with the Sony Cyber-shot S500.
About 18 month ago we reported about the same topic and back then also the top 8 spots had been held by Canon. The models have changed, but the leadership remains. I suspect the reasons are a combination of the quality, price and the high standing Canon has amongst consumers.
The current bestselling digital camera is the Canon Powershot SD600. On 2nd place is the Canon Powershot A530 and 3rd is the Canon PowerShot SD800 IS.
The Canon SD800 IS is the most interesting under the first 3 for sure.

Agfa Brand appears on Digital Camera: AgfaPhoto DC-735
German Company plawa secured the AgfaPhoto brand from AgfaPhoto Holding GmbH and released the AgfaPhoto DC-735 camera.
plawa is already offering Polaroid branded digital cameras.
Agfa has been one of the most prominent names in the photography industry for over a century. There is of course value to use these old defunct brands. Personally I hate it. It is somehow fooling people who do not know that Agfa failed to adopt the digital revolution.
On the other hand lots of active brands get put on products the brand owner is not actually making without us knowing about it.

Canon SD630 Digital Camera Review
The Designtechnica team reviews the Canon SD630 Digital Camera.
Quote:
"Three of the biggest trends for 2006 are digital cameras with more potent 6MP imagers, larger 3 inch LCD screens and higher sensitivity (ISO). For those not swimming in the digital camera sea every day, 6MP imagers are the new sweet spot for most manufacturers, up from 5 last year and 4MP the in 2004. Since next year is 2007, will 7MP be new standard at that time? Who cares? We’ll deal with what’s currently in our hands--which are cameras with ever higher resolution.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S600 6MP Digital Camera Review
This time our partners at Designtechnica review the budget 6MP Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S600.
Quote:
"Available since late last year, the Sony DSC-S600 is a great indicator of 2006 consumer price trends. For $199, you get a 6-megapixel compact point-and-shoot camera with a 3x optical zoom from a well-known brand.
No, we're not talking about Concord, DXG or Vivitar but a top-tier company. Depending on the survey du jour, Sony is considered among the top three worldwide. Another indication pricing is going your way is the recent announcement of the Olympus FE-140, a 6MP digicam with a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5-inch LCD screen for $249 list (due March).
Like some competitors, Sony used manufacturers in China to cut cost rather than making them in Japan like the recently reviewed DSC-T9. Now did Sony cut back the build quality of the S600? Of course but the key question is the camera worth the money? We'll snap the shutter and let you know."

The World's Fastest Digital Camera Image Processor
Well, this is image processor will not show up in your next digital camera, it is used in the image detector at the CERN.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison develops and test the so called Regional Calorimeter Trigger. This is a device that can analyze a billion proton collisions per second and, of those, gather digitized data sets for 50,000 events with relevent parameters.
The $6 million device is to be installed as a component of the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment, one of the detectors on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the CERN.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 Digital Camera Review
Designtechnica reviews the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 that was introduced last November.
Quote:
"Two years ago Sony shook up the digital camera world with the introduction of the DSC-T1, the first 5-megapixel model with a huge 2.5-inch LCD screen and an ultra thin form factor thanks to a non-extending 3x optical zoom lens.
Even at $550, it was a smash hit and was followed by many competitors and various iterations by Sony itself. The recently introduced Sony DSC-T9 is the latest edition and it adds some significant improvements including a 6MP imager, higher sensitivity (ISO 640) and Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization, a very important feature for a camera that's held by your fingertips. Even better the camera is cheaper than the original by a 100 clams.

Canon EOS 5D 12.8MP Digital Camera Review
Canon officially introduced the Canon EOS 5D in August of 2005. Our partners at Designtechnica have just reviewed this high-end digital camera.
Quote:
"Let's get it right on the table. The Canon EOS 5D is ridiculously expensive when compared to the 200-plus digital cameras currently available. At $3,299 for the body only, this D-SLR is for Porsche drivers who don't mind being weighed down by a 2-pound plus camera.
We're reviewing it for a couple of reasons: first the camera offers major breakthroughs that eventually will trickle down to more mainstream models (read that as more affordable). But perhaps most important is the fact we simply could! What red-blooded American wouldn't want to take a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S for a spin or to try out this over-the-top camera?"
