Canon shipped 100 Million compact Digital Cameras
Canon today announced that it has reached a new milestone by shipping its 100 millionth compact digital camera.
Canon first began producing digital cameras in 1996 at Oita Canon Inc., which continues to handle the bulk of the company's digital camera production, in addition to such manufacturing subsidiaries as Canon Opto (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and Canon Zhuhai, Inc. in China.
Since releasing the PowerShot 600 (photo) as Canon's first compact digital camera for sale to the general public in July 1996, the company has thus far launched a total of 106 digital camera models across the globe.

Kodak EasyShare M-series Digital Camera Announced
Kodak has announced another new digital camera, this time in its M-series. The Kodak EasyShare M1093 Is camera has a 10MP sensor and a 3x optical zoom lens. The LCD on the camera is a 3-inch wide-angle system and it can shoot HD pictures and video.
Other features include image stabilization, intelligent scene detection, intelligent capture control and intelligent image processing. Videos are captured in HD quality with MPEG-4 compression. Sport in videos can also be marked for easy access with video marking, face detection, high ISO sensitivity and a rechargeable battery round out the features. The camera will be available in September for $199.95. Read more

GE E1235 Digital Camera Launches on HSN
GE has a new 12-megapixel digital camera that is slated to launch on the HSN network on March 14th. The camera will retail at an introductory price of $199.99 including the camera, black camera case and ArcSoft software package.
Two colors will be available for the camera-- silver and deep red. The rear LCD is 2.7-inches and the camera has a 3x optical zoom lens and ISO 3200 sensitivity. Other features include blink detector and a smile detector. Read more

quarter, taking advantage of holiday bargains and fueling better-than-expected

Samsung Integrates Digital Camera and CE Business
Samsung announced today that it plans to integrate two arms of its business in March of 2008. The integration will be of Samsungs digital camera and consumer electronics business. According to Samsung the consolidation of the two units will add new competitive advantages.
"Bringing the digital still camera business into the fold of our broader consumer electronics operations is the next logical step in the evolution of our digital imaging business," said Tim Baxter, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Samsung Electronics America. "Both groups bring inherent strengths and relationships to the table that will allow us to elevate our presence and offer a more comprehensive suite of digital lifestyle solutions to retailers and consumers." GE Adds Nine New Digital Cameras
GE has announced its 2008 line of digital cameras including nine new models. All nine cameras will include smile detection, blink detection, upgraded lenses and LCD screens that adjust to ambient light.
The top of the line E1050 also adds HDTV output, a touch screen and onboard GPS capability. The GE line is the first to offer smile and blink detection to ensure you get portraits when subjects are both smiling and have their eyes open. Read more

Sony DSC-T300 Digital Camera
Sony’s on a roll with new camera announcements today. Another new Cyber-shot camera called the DSC-T300 was announced today as well. The T300 is a 10.1MP camera with a compact design and intelligent scene recognition to improve photos.
The Sony DSC-T300 detects five scenes and chooses the correct setting automatically. An advanced iSCN mode allows the shooter to set their own settings and when the camera determines the image taken isn’t ideal it will shoot a second shot with automatic settings. Read more

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S750 and DSC-S780 Digital Cameras
Sony announced a pair of new entry level digital cameras called the Cyber-shot DSC-S750 and DSC-S780. Both cameras feature Sony face detection technology and can identify up to three faces in a shot and adjust for exposure and focus.
Both entry level cameras are powered by lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and bodies only 1-inch thick. The difference between the two cameras is in the resolution of the CCD sensors. Read more

GE E850 Digital Camera Review
Our review partner Digital Trends published a review of the GE E850 8MP digital camera. The GE camera only gets a score of 5. I am not sure if it’s wise for GE to license their brand for consumer electronics.

Pentax Introduces Optia A40 and Optio V10 Digital Cameras
Pentax has launched a couple new digital cameras called the Optio A40 and the Optio V10. The Optio A40 is a 12-megapixel camera that has three types of shake reduction built-in. The three modes are mechanical, digital and move with each version helping to deliver sharp, blur-free shots.
The A40 also features face recognition technology and a half-height portrait mode designed to take head and shoulder photos of subjects. The Optio V10 is an ultra-slim digital camera with a 3-inch LCD for easy image viewing. Read more

Pentax Announces Optio S10 and Optio Z10 Digital Cameras
Pentax is announcing a couple new digital cameras today called the Optio S10 and the Optio Z10. The Z10 has a 7x optical zoom lens, which is the highest optical zoom among Pentax compact digital cameras.
The Z10 has 8 megapixels and features face detection. The lens uses refraction technology so it never sticks out when zooming. Digital shake reduction is also built into the camera allows for ISO of up to 3200. Read more

Vivitar Waterproof Digital Camera is Three Kinds of Ugly
Vivitar has a new digital camera that just might be the most hideous piece of digital camera tech to ever roll off the assembly line. It appears to be colored in a safety orange hue, perhaps to help keep the photographer from being shot if the cam is used on a hunting expedition. The color may go over well here in Texas at the University of Texas as well.
Ugly looks aside, the cam is waterproof to 30 feet so you can take pics as you swim or dive. The LCD display is a 2” color TFT and it packs in 4x digital zoom. The CCD is 6 megapixels and it can snap images at 2816 x 2112, 2272 x 1704, 1600 x 1200, and 640 x 480. Read more

Design Concept Digital Camera Spins Like a Top
I can’t say that I have ever been shooting pictures and really thought what I needed was a 360 degree view of my surroundings. Yanko Designs has concept digital camera that looks like something Flavor Flav would wear round his neck.
