ASUS DisplayLink Certified LCDs Shipping in July

ASUS DisplayLink Certified LCDs Shipping in July Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review ASUS announced today that its DisplayLink LCDs will be available in July. The DisplayLink certified VW223B is a 22-inch LCD with a 1680x1050 resolution, 3000:1 contrast ratio and a 5MS response time. The display also features a built-in USB hub for connection of six additional monitors thanks to the integrated DisplayLink DL-160 chip.

Asus will also have a VW202B DisplayLink certified LCD available the same month. The VW202B is a 20.1-inch LCD with the same 1680x1050 resolution. It lacks the USB hub of the large display, and has slightly less viewing angles but shares the other features of the VW223B LCD. Pricing information is unknown at this time. Read more

Samsung Announces CX Series Displays for Commercial Use Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Samsung has a new line of LCD HDTV displays intended for use in commercial settings. The line is called the CX series and includes features like a digital tuner, HDMI, integrated speakers and integrated network PCs. The displays also feature anti burn-in technology.

The 400CX has a resolution of 1366 x 768 and the 400CXn has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The 460CX and 460CXn both sport 3000:1 contrast ratios and 8ms response times. Samsung’s press release on the displays has some obvious errors so no more details are available at this time. Read more

Displaytech Filling Orders for Pico Projectors Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Displaytech announced today that it is now filling production orders for its tiny FLCOS microdisplay for use in Pico Projectors that is destined to be integrated into cell phones and other mobile devices. Orders for the VGA, WVGA, and SVGA FLCOS microdisplays will be integrated into pico projectors and head-mounted displays.

The tiny FLCOS microdisplays measure only 11.5mm high and consume less than 100mW of power. Displaytech says that over 18,000,000 FLCOS microdisplays have shipped for use in consumer electronics products. Read more

Inputs include DVI-D and HDMI with HDCP for protected content from Blu-ray drives. The display has integrated speakers and is plug and play compatible. The response rate for the panel is 2ms and the case is a glossy piano black for good looks. The MSRP for the display is $299.99. Read more

HP introduces DreamColor Display

The HP DreamColor display can reproduce more than 1 billion colors with a 30-bit LED backlit display. The DreamColor display is shipping now for $3499.

HP says that the new display delivers more than 64 times as many colors as a mainstream LCD. It also claims that reds, blues, and greens are deeper than that blacks are 4 times deeper in the DreamColor display and whites are adjustable. One button access to all standard color pre-sets is offered as well. The size offerings for the DreamColor display were not mentioned. Read more

The display uses Philips’ WOWvx technology to allow 3D viewing without the need for glasses.

The 52-inch auto-stereoscopic display is based on a full 1080p HD panel with 700 cd/m2 of brightness, 2000:1 contrast ratio and a response time of 8 ms. Philips says that the display will be available in Q4 2008. Pricing is not available at this time. Read more

NEC LCD Technologies says that shape restrictions have eased significantly with their new LCD TFT technology.
The heart LCD Display prototype is 40mm wide and 36mm high and has 146px/inch. Read more

There it was again. Back in 2001 (timeworn I4U post) I wrote about Microvision's Retinal Scanning Displays that would project images directly on your eye with laser beams.
Seven years later and I still cannot by video glasses that look like normal reading or sunglasses. Read more
