Microsoft: AMOLED Displays Are The Future
Okay, so Microsoft didn't actually say that outright. Actions speak louder than words though, and Microsoft's actions with Windows Phone 7 speak to high hopes for the future ubiquity of OLED-based displays. PocketNow reports that Windows Phone 7 engineers chose black and white backgrounds for a very specific reason.
Black backgrounds draw less power on an AMOLED screen, and white backgrounds work better for emails and improve text readability. Microsoft knows that OLED/AMOLED technology will be the future of phone displays. It has already started to gain quite a bit of popularity, and that will only continue over the next few years.

Sunny Ocean 3D Display without Glasses also at CeBIT 2010 [Update]
This is our third report from CeBIT 2010 featuring a 3D display technology that does not require glasses. Why are the new 2010 3D TVs from Sony, Samsung and others, require us to wear 3D shutter glasses again? To me it looks like there is enough auto-stereoscopic display technology out there that big consumer electronics companies could put their muscle behind now.
Singapore based Sunny Ocean offers a 3D Display that offers 3D experience from 64 perspectives in a room. This feature makes this 3D display usable by several people in the room at the same time.

CeBIT 2010: SeeFront 3D Display works without Glasses
Earlier we reported about the Fraunhofer autostereoscopic 3D display that uses eye tracking to generate the 3D experience. Another German company called SeeFront is also exhibiting a 3D display that requires no glasses at the CeBIT 2010.
The SeeFront technology is a special optical system embedded in a forepanel mounted parallel to the flat screen monitor. In order to create a spatial effect both eyes must see proximate perspectives.

3D Display without Glasses using Eye-tracking exhibited at CeBIT 2010
Many believe that 3D in the living room will only succeed if we do not have to wear glasses to see the 3D images.
The Germany Fraunhofer Institute is demonstrating an interesting 3D display solution without glasses at the CeBIT 2010.
The auto stereoscopic display is using eye-tracking to allow viewers to move around fairly freely and still view perfect 3D. The
system is controlled by contact-free gesture. The Fraunhofer HHI institute is showing two such 3D displays at the CeBIT 2010. The analog 3D display uses mechanics to adjust the images to the viewing angle; its picture quality
is the highest now achievable anywhere in the world.

iPhone 2010 Super AMOLED Display Rumors Heat Up
RUMORS! HEARSAY! SPECULATION! Yes, this article has it all. In my interview with Aaron Vronko we touched briefly on the possibility that the new iPhone would pack a Super AMOLED screen. This new display technology (developed by Samsung) would give Apple a head's up on their plain-old AMOLED-packing competitors, like the Nexus One.
Now articles have popped up on Gadget Venue and PMP Today discussing rumors of a Super AMOLED screen for the new iPhone. I traced the rumors back to their source at OLED display.net, who claims to have heard from OLED industry sources that Apple is very interested in Samsung's technology.

MIT's Flyfire: The Future of Display?
Monitors are SO last millennium. Even the super-sexy, ultra-thin OLED monitors have got nothing on Flyfire. This revolutionary (and still mostly theoretical) display technology from MIT could one day change the way we compute. The basic idea behind Flyfire is to use dozens of miniature helicopters festooned with LEDs to act as smart pixels.
These pixels are all controlled and coordinated by computer, which allows them to use highly precise movements to create detailed images. Eventually, MIT believes these tiny robots will be used to turn any area of space into a display surface. These 'helicopters' are self-stabilizing and use controlling technology developed in the ARES Lab.

NEC Unveils Massive P701 70-inch Display with Massive Price
Long ago when I picked up my 30-inch Dell LCD I thought the more than $1000 it cost was a lot of money for a display. NEC has unveiled a new 70-inch display called the P701 that is aimed at the digital signage market and has a price tag that makes my 30-inch LCD seem dirt cheap. The P701 will ship in March for $11,799.
For that much scratch you get a huge 70-inch screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. The screen has a 420 cd/m2 brightness rating with 600 cd/m2 maximum brightness. The display has integrated thermal protection and internal temperature sensors. Read more

CES 2011 To Feature Largest Apple-Related Product Display Ever
A new Apple product line means a new line of peripherals from manufacturers like iSkin and Mophie. Every year the CES show includes the iLounge Pavilion, where various companies go to show off their Apple product-related peripherals. In 2010, the Pavilion was 25,000 square feet in size and filled with more than 100 companies. And next year is set to be even bigger. iLounge has reserved twice as much space for 2011.
Skosche, Incipio, Vestalife and many others will all be in attendance next year, with their iPad accessories in tow. Right now, there are fairly few cool peripherals for the iPad. That state of affairs will not last long. I predict that keyboard/speaker combo iPad docks are going to be very big at CES 2011. There are quite a few elaborate docks for the iPhone and iPod touch, and the iPad opens up so many more potential avenues.
