DoCoMo, KTF to sell Google Phone next Year: Report
TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's NTT DoCoMo Inc and South Korean partner KTF Co will
jointly develop a smartphone using Google Inc software for launch next year, the
Nikkei business daily reported on Wednesday.
DoCoMo, Japan's top mobile phone operator, is part of a global alliance to
develop phones based on Google's Android platform and has been eyeing a launch
in 2009.
DoCoMo owns 10 percent of KTF and the two companies have been jointly procuring
handsets to cut costs.
Smartphones, which combine the capabilities of personal computers and mobile
phones, have been gaining popularity in Japan, in part led by the July
introduction of Apple Inc's iPhone.
DoCoMo aims to introduce the Google phone at a price about 20 percent lower than
existing smartphones, as it will save costs on software development using the
Android software, the report said. Google is offering the software for free.

DoCoMo has new Logo
Most of the time it is not a good sign when a company changes or updates its logo. Japanese carrier DoCoMo is no exception. DoCoMo is slowly losing its huge market share to smaller players on the Japanese mobile phone market.
If the new more round and red colored logo will help stop this trend is questionable.

Looks like Nokia did not live up to the expectations of DoCoMo at this point.
I find it interesting that DoCoMo is going to offer this Nokia phone on its 3G Foma network. Style-wise it is very different from the usually very stylish Foma handsets.

The lemon yellow slider FOMA phone D902i (photo) features a 4MP digital camera, 2.8 inch QVGA screen, miniSD card slot and music player. It is only 19.8mm thin.
Looks like 4MP digital cameras are becoming the new standard in Japan. The rest of the world has still to be happy to get a 2MP digital camera. 4MP would be enough. 8MP in a digital camera phone is overkill.
