Pandora: Coming to Android Soon

Topic:

Pandora: Coming to Android Soon Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

By its own definition, Pandora is a “personalized Internet radio service that helps you find new music based on your old and current favorites.” Right now there are Pandora applications for the iPhone, the Palm Pre, BlackBerry smartphones and phones with the Windows Mobile operating system. Conspicuously absent from that list are any Android smartphones.

Some of you may remember Pandora CTO Tom Conrad's attack on Android during a TechCrunch roundtable discussion. Although he took back his harsh words immediately afterwards, it was assumed that Android users were going to have to wait awhile for a Pandora app.

Pandora Internet Radio to go Silent? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The Pandora Internet Radio service might have to pull the plug because of the royalty fees.
Apparently this year the royalty fees will cost Pandora 70% of its projected $25m in revenue. This kind of cost would kill almost any business.

Flying Doraemon RC Toy

Topic:

Flying Doraemon RC Toy Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review I’m not real sure what a Doraemon is or why it would be flying around, but apparently it’s related to a cat minus the ears. At any rate, we have been on a flying toy kick here recently and I ran across this one over at Hobbystuff4u.com.

The toy measures in at 34.5 x 30 x 13.5 cm and uses some weird sounding 6F22 and LR14 batteries that are not included. From the images on the website, it appears that the controller charges the flying toy similar to that of the Picco Z. Read more

Cool Pandora Personal Radio Available on the Slim Devices Squeezebox

Topic:

Cool Pandora Personal Radio Available on the Slim Devices Squeezebox Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Slim Devices announces the support of the Pandora personalized radio stream on the Squeezebox audio streaming device.

I just tried the Pandora music service that is based on the Music Genome Project, and it is amazing. You type in a song or artist and it will generate automatic a set of songs similar to your query. It even gives you a sentence or two on why it recommends the selected titles. One funny thing is that it will not play your selected song right away due to license limitation at least on the free player on the Pandora site (see screenshot below). Give it a try, it really is great way to find new artists and songs that match your taste.

Squeezebox CEO says about Pandora: "The first time I used Pandora on my Squeezebox, I was glued to my listening chair for the entire weekend. I used to get the thrill of finding a new song I liked once a week. Now I feel it one song after another, listening to any style of music."

I reviewed the latest Squeezebox V3 last November. Read more

New Bandai Doraemon Robot Speaks with Humans

Topic:

New Bandai Doraemon Robot Speaks with Humans Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Toy maker Bandai Co. has brought popular Doraemon a little closer to life by producing a robot version of the cartoon character that can converse with humans.

The robot, which is 26.5 cm tall and weighs 1.3 kg, uses voice-recognition technology and sensors to make its interaction with humans possible.
It can use about 750 words spoken with the voice of the animated version of Doraemon, and can recognize nine human words including "Doraemon," "Let's play," and "Mouse." When someone says, "Doraemon, let's play," for example, the robot responds by asking, "What shall we do?"
The robot contains 10 types of light and inclination sensors, it can tell when someone has hit it on the head, and says, "Hey, that hurts." When it is stroked, it says, "If you're going to stroke me I wouldn't mind a bean-jam pancake as well."
