3G iPhone to feature Over-the-air Music Downloads
The NY Times reports that Apple is supposedly negotiating new extended deals with Music Labels to offer iTunes songs over-the-air (OTA) on the 3G iPhone. The NY Times cites music label executives as sources.
With 3G support downloading songs is technically no problem. Apparently the music labels like to charge more money for a song that is downloaded OTA. The labels try to get Apple to allow different pricing on tracks.

Firefox 3 is out of beta and the first release candidate is available for download now.
The Firefox 3 Release Candidate is a public preview release intended for developer testing and community feedback. It includes new features as well as dramatic improvements to performance, memory usage and speed.

Nokia confident of profit from Music Downloads

HELSINKI (Reuters) - Offering unlimited music downloads to phone buyers will be
a profitable business for Nokia as well as for record labels, the handset maker
said, dismissing talk the move would come at the expense of profits.
"We expect to make money both from our traditional device sales, as well as from
the 'Comes With Music' service," said Liz Schimel, head of Nokia's music
business.

Windows XP SP3 download Availability
A week ago we reported that Microsoft will publish Windows XP SP3 today. The plans have changed a bit as it seems.
MSDN subscribers have already been able to download Windows XP SP3 for a couple of days. A download to none MSDN members could be expected next week, if I interpret this post from Microsoft's Chris Keroack correctly.

Sony plans Video Download Service on Sony PS3
The LA Times reports that Sony is in negotiations with Studios over video content licensing.
The anonymous tipsters told the paper that Sony might be launching a Movie on Demand service on the PS3 as early as this Summer.
PS3 owners would be able to download TV shows and movies directly via the Playstation Network.

Windows XP SP3 download starts April 29th
Microsoft's release manager for the Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) posted on the Microsoft TechNet forum that the long awaited update for Windows XP is a go.

Windows XP SP3 has been released to manufacturing (RTM). Windows XP SP3 is on its way through our manufacturing channels to be available to OEM and Enterprise customers.
On April 29th Windows XP SP3 will be available via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center.

EA Announces Free Downloadable PC Content for Mass Effect
EA announced today that when Mass Effect for PC launches on May 28th in North America and June 6th in Europe free downloadable content for the game will be available. The downloadable content is called “Bringing Down the Sky” and is the first in a planned series of downloads to expand the Mass Effect story and universe.
The download includes a new uncharted world and introduces the Batarian alien race. The download adds about 90 minutes of new gameplay and a new original sound track. The coolest part is that the download will be free to registered members of the BioWare community. Read more

Motley Crue to Debut its New Single as Download for Rock Band
Harmonix and MTV announced recently that the 80’s rock band Motley Crue will be releasing its latest single called “Saints of Los Angeles” as a downloadable, playable track for the Rock Band video game. The track is released on Motley Records.
The tune will be available for download on April 15th via Xbox Live Marketplace for 160 points and on April 17th on the Playstation store for $0.99. Rock Band will also be going on tour with Motley Crue for the Crue Fest 40-city tour with bands like Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Sixx: A.M. and Trapt. Read more

Rock Band Download Tracks Go Platinum 6 Times
If we needed any more proof that the Rock Band game is hugely popular we have it. EA and MTV announced that the downloadable music based levels that have been offered have gone platinum six times.
In only three months over 6 million Rock Band downloadable tracks have been sold. To date over 70 new songs have been offered for purchase for Rock Band. Downloadable content is available for both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. Read more

Apple proud of 100,000 iPhone SDK Downloads
Apple announced that in the first 4 days of the availability of the iPhone SDK 100,000 developers downloaded a copy.
Apparently AOL, Electronic Arts, Epocrates, salesforce.com and Sega have already demonstrated "amazing" applications using the SDK.

Firefox reaches 500,000,000 Download Milestone
The Firefox browser got downloaded 500 million times. This is quite an impressive number.
I still find myself using both browsers on a daily basis. I spend still the most time inside Internet Explorer in Windows.

CinemaNow and Sonic Team Up for Secure Movie Download and Burn
Sonic Solutions and CinemaNow announced today that the companies have teamed up to offer secure movie download and burn to CD legally. The films and TV shows would be burned to protected recordable DVDs capable of being played back in DVD and HD players.
CinemaNow says it will offer the largest selection of movies, TV shows, music videos and more via Roxio Venue from Sonic. To be able to burn and download films a Qflix-enableled DVD burner is required. Read more
