ASUS P5E3 Premium WiFi X48 Mobo Review

Topic:

ASUS P5E3 Premium WiFi X48 Mobo Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Tweaktown published a review of the ASUS P5E3 Premium WiFi X48 Motherboard.

Quote from the review: "Intel originally planned for the X38 chipset to be the big kahuna for the Core 2 platform, but unfortunately its extremely poor overclocking, heat generation and lack of support for the 1600MHz FSB made Intel go back and bring up a new chipset. X48 however is not actually a new chipset, rather a hand picked X38 silicon that works at higher FSB clock speeds along with a lower voltage draw than that of the X38. But this also means it carries a premium with it, thus Intel decided to give it X48 naming. Read more

Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason Hands on at E3

Topic:

Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason Hands on at E3 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

I came across a booth at E3 from 1C Company, which is a company I am not familiar with. Turns out that 1C is one of the biggest publishers of games in Europe and they were showing off one hot looking PC title called Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason and I was able to spend some hands on time with the game.

Cryostasis is a PC DirectX 10 title originally voiced and with Russian text. In fact, the E3 demo version was in Russian, which made it hard for me to change the controls to my liking. The rep on hand assured me that when the game launches here in the U.S. in Q4 of this year it would have English menus.

The setting for Cryostasis is a derelict Russian icebreaker that was caught in an ice trap long ago. Your character is a Russian meteorologist caught inside the ship who must find out what happened to the ship and its crew. Read more

EA's Mercenaries 2 from E3

Topic:

EA's Mercenaries 2 from E3 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

EA had another cool game showing in their E3 booth that I was unable to get hands on that looked great called Mercenaries 2. The level that was being showed off at E3 put the player in a combat helicopter and the graphics looked fantastic.

I like open world games where you can go where you want, when you want and that is what Mercs 2 is. You can buy, steal or blow up everything you see in the game from cars and vehicles to the buildings your enemies are hold up in.

You can drive sports cars, fly in helicopters, and roll in a tank. Basically, you do what you want with over 130 vehicles to choose. You can also recruit other mercs to build your own private military company. Read more

Hellgate London from E3

Topic:

Hellgate London from E3 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Another one of the hotly anticipated DirectX 10 PC gaming titles everyone is waiting for is EA’s Hellgate: London. Unfortunately, I didn’t get hands on with this particular game, the PR guy showing it off bogarted the keyboard for the entire time I was around.

This was the first time I saw the graphics and game play in person and both looked great. The thing that impressed me the most about Hellgate: London was that while the game is called an RPG, you could also call it a shooter as well. I say that because you can play several classes of characters from those that use blades, with game play much like that of Oblivion which I always thought of as a first person slasher. Read more

E3 Hands on with Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles on Wii

Topic:

E3 Hands on with Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles on Wii Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

At last weeks E3, I was able to spend some time playing the new Wii version of Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles . Ever since the original Nintendo console launched way back in the day with Duck Hunt as one of the coolest games the light gun has been a big part of console gaming for me.

The gun has been missing from the next gen consoles, but Capcom is bringing back the light gun for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles on the Wii. We can call it a light gun anyway, but in reality, it’s simply a plastic holder that you place your Wii remote into along with a nunchuck.

Then what you have is a light gun with some movement controls, I say some movement controls because on the version I played at E3 most of the movement was scripted and the nunchuck was used to shake the zombies off if you were unable to drop them with the gun before they got close to you. Crysis Hands On at E3

Topic:

Crysis Hands On at E3 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Another of the cool games on display at E3 this year was Crysis from Crytek. Crysis is a FPS title with graphics that will leave PC gamers with the hardware to run the DirectX 10 version of the game at full tilt drooling.

Crysis has already garnered lots of attention and is one of the most anticipated game titles due out this year. No specific release date was offered when I asked when we could buy it. However, it would be very surprising if the game didn’t show up for Christmas. Read more

E3 Eidos Demos: Age of Conan and Kane & Lynch

Topic:

E3 Eidos Demos: Age of Conan and Kane & Lynch Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

A few minutes ago I sat through demos from Eidos showing of two of their new game titles, one was Age of Conan and the other game title was Kane & Lynch. Lots of game play for the PC DirectX 9 version was shown off for Age of Conan, and the game looked fantastic in DirectX 9 form.

There was not a demo available for the DirectX 10 PC version of the game (due out on October 30), but the graphics on the DirectX 9 PC version are promised to be identical to the graphics that show up on gaming consoles for the title. The game is massive and has 185 square miles of various terrain types for you to explore alone or in a group. The developers say that they have tweaked the game with enough play options that those with a large group available can have large party adventures and a lone player with only a few hours can play and progress in single payer mode. E3 Barker Hangar houses small Game Display

Topic:

E3 Barker Hangar houses small Game Display Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

I went to Barker Hangar today to check out the games on display and I was shocked at how small the display is. The hanger is not nearly as large as I had envisioned and there weren’t that many press types there. The small amount of geeks that were there makes me wonder about the turn out for the show this year.

I had a chance to check out Crysis, though I didn’t get to play the game myself. Man does it look good, it’s everything I liked about Far Cry when it first launched, but turned up several notches. The graphics were great and the game play was very nice as well. I also played some of Namco’s new Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation on Xbox 360 and had some serious fun. The graphics were good and I really liked the game play. Read more

Sony E3 2007 Press Conference Impressions

Topic:

Sony E3 2007 Press Conference Impressions Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

I just returned form checking out the Sony press conference here at E3. They naturally talked about the new slimmer PSP, which we have already covered here today. The PSP really didn’t look smaller to me from where I was sitting a few rows back. However, the new PSP is promised to be 30% lighter.

What I was surprised to hear not mentioned when speaking of the new PSP was a brighter screen and longer battery life, which have been rumored to be two of the selling points of the new PSP.

The biggest announcements were certainly on the gaming front with a large portion so the talks again centering around the Playstation Home that we have talked about before. Thee are tons of games and lots of PS3 exclusives making their way to the console in the coming months and after the press conference we had a chance to get touchy feely with all of the games Sony talked up at the event. E3: MS introduces Pink and Blue Xbox 360 Controllers

Topic:

E3: MS introduces Pink and Blue Xbox 360 Controllers Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review If Microsoft would not have the hyper successful Halo franchise on their hands, they would not have any highlights to announce at the E3 as it seems. Ok, they did announce a ton of Xbox 360 games for this holiday season, which should make lots of gamers happy.

Besides the Xbox 360 Messenger Kit, which was already announced in April, Microsoft introduced a pink and a dark blue Wireless Xbox 360 controller. Why would we need a pink and a blue controller? Of course these are for babies - blue for boys and pink for girls. You cannot start early enough playing video games. Read more
