PS3 Firmware 2.42 got released
Sony published another firmware update for the Sony PS3 today. The new PS3 Firmware 2.42 improves the playback of PS3 and Playstation titles.
Sony is not diving into more details on what exactly the game play improvements are.
Sony ran into big issues when rolling out firmware 2.40. Firmware 2.41 solved the issue some PS3 owners experienced earlier this month.

Sony PSP Firmware 4.05 released
Sony already pre-announced the new PSP Firmware 4.05 yesterday. 4.05 is now available for download from the Playstation Network.
For all PSP owners new music visualization features have been added. If you own a PSP-2000 with Wansegu Digital TV tuner in Japan then you also get some new features for recording footage from digital TV on your PSP.

PSP Firmware 4.05 announced
Sony announced on its official Playstation Blog that the next firmware 4.05 for the Sony PSP is coming soon.
Update:
PSP Firmware 4.05 released
The PSP Firmware 4.05 features include new visualizers for music playback, among other features. Sony is not getting more specific what these other features of 4.05 might be.

PS3 Firmware 2.41 is available
The Sony PS3 firmware 2.41 is now on the Playstation Network available for downloading according to user comments on the Playstation Blog. As reported earlier the Sony Playstation Blog announced the new system update that fixes the 2.40 firmware to be available shortly.

PS3 Firmware 2.41 will be released shortly
The official Sony Playstation Blog reports that the PS3 firmware 2.41 for the PS3 will be available shortly.

PS3 Firmware 2.41 is here
The firmware 2.41 is the replacement for the flawed firmware 2.40 that Sony had to take down last week.
Sony says that for some users firmware 2.40 did not show the XMB anymore after they deployed the system update.

PS3 Firmware 2.41 release by Wednesday
Sony released the PS3 firmware 2.40 on July 2nd. After a couple of hours Sony removed the system update due to reports of some bricked PS3 consoles. CVG reports today that Sony is apparently releasing a new PS3 firmware 2.41 that will have the issues resolved by Wednesday.

The release date for 2.41 is not official yet. CVG received the information of a mid-week release from Sony support.

Sony PS3 Firmware 2.40 Update temporarily removed
Sony has removed the new PS3 Firmware 2.40, because of some PS3 owners reports about bricked PS3 consoles after they installed the update.
Sony says on its Playstation blog that the issue is limited to some users, but they want to make sure what is going on and that is why the pulled the update until the issue is resolved.

Sony released the PS3 firmware 2.40 already on the Playstation Network.
Update:
Sony pulled the PS3 2.40 firmware update, because of issues reported by some users
Some users experienced slow download. Here is the link to the PS3 firmware 2.40 update file to download to your PC and then transfer to the PS3, if you are impatient: PS3 2.40 Firmware file (US only!!, 130MB). I still recommend waiting until the PS3 downloads and installs the system update by itself.

PS3 Firmware 2.40 FAQ
As reported Sony will release the PS3 firmware 2.40 on July 2nd. Besides Video Walkthroughs of 2.40, the Sony Playstation Blog has also published an interesting FAQ about firmware 2.40.
The firmware 2.40 FAQ for instance tells you that you cannot use the browser during a game, you have to exit the game first.

Sony PS3 Firmware 2.40 Release on July 2nd
Sony just announced that the new major firmware update 2.40 will be released on July 2nd.
The Sony PS3 firmware 2.40 enhancement allows XMB (XrossMediaBar) access in-game. This means that you can access the PS3 menu at any time while playing most games, simply by tapping the PlayStation button on your controller.
With 2.40, you can check if any of your friends are online (thanks to their own user profile), read and send messages, change some settings for games, all without having to quit the game you are playing. While you can’t pause an online multiplayer game involving other people, you can rejoin play at any time when you’ve finished browsing. Along with these enhanced communications features, the Friends list capacity will double to 100 Friends.

Sony PS3 Firmware 2.40 Video Walkthrough [Update]
Sony already confirmed the new features that will be coming in the Sony PS3 Firmware 2.40. Today Sony published a video demonstrating in-game XMB access that will be coming in 2.40. Update: Now Sony has also published a video demoing the Trophy system. See it below.
The video shows how you can look at email or change settings while you are inside a running game.

Hacked PSP Firmware now available for latest 4.01 System Update
Sony released the latest Sony PSP firmware 4.01 last week. PSP Homebrew hacker Dark Alex and the M33 Team have now released a new version of their custom firmware that allows it to run homebrew on the PSP to work with 4.01.

iPhone Firmware 2.0 features secure Data Wipe
AppleInsider reports that they have learned about a secure data wipe feature in the new iPhone firmware 2.0.
The new iPhone erase all data feature is supposed to function like the Secure Empty Trash function of Mac OS X. Unlike in the current iPhone firmware the erased data would be overwritten several times so it cannot be retrieved again by snoopy tools.

iPhone 2.0 Firmware ready this Friday?
Gizmodo cites unnamed sources that the new iPhone 2.0 firmware will be ready this Friday entering golden master stage.
Current iPhone owners can upgrade to firmware 2.0 for free. iPod touch users have to pay 10 bucks to get it (not sure why Apple considers it necessary to milk iPod touch owners).

Sony just released the PSP firmware 4.00 a week ago and already talks up the next firmware release 4.01.
The new upcoming Sony PSP firmware 4.01 includes minor updates.
Sony improves the display of search results under the new Google Search for some languages and the playback of video content has been improved for certain file types.

Rumors about the new features coming in the PS3 firmware 2.40 appeared in May. Now the official Sony Playstation Blog confirms that the PS3 firmware 2.40 will include XMB access in-game and trophies.
Sony just released a minor Sony PS3 firmware update with 2.36 this week. There is no release date yet for the Sony PS3 firmware 2.40.

Sony PS3 Firmware 2.36 released
Sony released PS3 firmware 2.36 today. We actually expected the new Sony PSP firmware 4.00. The new Sony PS3 firmware comes a bit unexpected.
The Sony PS3 firmware 2.36 is not really exciting though. Sony only lists PlayStation software standards and stability improvements.

iPhone Firmware 2.0 comes early July
Steve Jobs just announced during his keynote at the WWDC 08 that the iPhone firmware 2.0 will be released in early July.
The firmware 2.0 will be free for all iPhone users and cost $9.95 for the iPod touch owners.
