Sony Flat Panel TV Shortage?

Topic:

Sony Flat Panel TV Shortage? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Sony Wega 61" Plasma TV
Yahoo carries a Reuters story about Sony not being able to meet demand of growing Flat Panel TV sales.

Sale numbers in Europe indicate that Sony is closing in on Flat Panel TV market leader Philips. Sony had end of September 15.8%, where as Philips has 18.8%. Apparently Sony did not increase production in their plants fast enough. Seems consumers are really getting hooked on Flat Screens. It is also too tempting. When shopping for a TV, those CRTs or Projection TVs are just huge, compared to a slim Flat Screen TV.

LCD Monitor As Flat Panel Speaker

Topic:

LCD Monitor As Flat Panel Speaker Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review NEC offers 17" LCD Monitor that uses NXT Surface Speaker Technology.

The NEC Valuestar T and FS System features a LCD Monitor that is at the same time a Loud-Speaker.
The monitor’s vibrating component is a 2mm-thick sheet of optical grade acrylic, separated from the front face of the display by a distance of 6mm. Both sides of the acrylic are treated with anti-reflection coatings to minimise losses and the external surface also has a hard coating to enhance abrasion resistance. Two 19mm moving coil exciters, one at each lateral edge of the sheet, drive it as a distributed-mode loudspeaker panel.

An NXT panel’s inherently wide bandwidth allows the Valuestar T and FS to cover the frequency range from 200Hz right up to 20kHz, at the limit of audibility. Lower frequencies, which have to be excluded from the SoundVu panel to obviate visual artefacts, are reproduced via a small cone driver integrated within the monitor’s base.

No prices available at this point.
