Fossil Dropped PALM OS PDA Wristwatch Price to $79

Topic:

Fossil Dropped PALM OS PDA Wristwatch Price to $79 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The Fossil Wrist PDA watch FX2009 and FX2008 are now selling for a low $79.00 on Fossil.com.

Not even a year ago when we reviewed the Fossil Palm OS powered wrist watch it sold for $249. This is quite a drop in price. I do not think this is driven by the huge numbers Fossil sold of the Palm OS watch. Looks more like a clearance. Anyway, I think this is now the cheapest Palm PDA on the market. It is also the smallest. Read more

Fossil Wrist PDA now only $199.99 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Amazon.com is selling the Fossil FX2008 Palm OS Wrist PDA for $199.99. That is $50 less than Fossil charged for it on Fossil.com.

Looks like Fossil made friends again with Amazon. Amazon was already taking orders of the first Fossil Wrist PDA years ago, which then did not get shipped. Amazon sure was not too happy about it. Fossil.com is not shipping the Wrist PDA right now. Maybe Amazon has all the inventory right now.
More details on the Palm OS Wristwatch in our Fossil FX2008 Wrist PDA Review.

Fossil Wrist PDA Review: Is this a toothpick?

Topic:

Fossil Wrist PDA Review: Is this a toothpick? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

I met Fossil at the CES 2005 in Las Vegas to get a first look at the Palm OS powered Wristwatch. I was following Fossil's Wrist PDA since they announced their first attempt in November 2002. It was an amazingly cool gadget back then.
Fossil canceled that model in 2003 and it never went on sale.

Since January 2005 Fossil is selling the Palm OS PDA watch. Read the review to find out if the Fossil Wrist PDA is still a cool gadget or just an interesting way to carry a toothpick around as our I4U Gadget Model Christine found out (see photo).

Fossil Palm OS Wrist PDA FX2008 Review

Topic:

Fossil Palm OS Wrist PDA FX2008 Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review FossilWristPDA has maybe the first review of the Fossil Palm OS Wrist PDA that was launched at this years CES and is already available at Fossil.

Quote:
"I believe it is nearly unnecessary to tell you that this watch isn’t small. However, to say that this watch is huge is not really true. The watch is big but thanks to the sleek design by Fossil, this watch has a very nice professional touch unlike many other similar watches.
The fact that this watch is using a Palm OS is without any doubt a big plus. Since it is very easy to adjust existing Palm applications to work with the rocker switch, I’m convinced we’ll see more and more applications work smoothly on this wrist pda watch. "

Fossil Palm OS Wrist PDA revealed at CES 2005

Topic:

Fossil Palm OS Wrist PDA revealed at CES 2005 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

We had the scoop that Fossil will introduce their new attempt on a Palm OS powered wristwatch at the CES 2005 already in November (unfortunatly we had to take it down).

Yesterday I held the Fossil Wrist PDA in my hands at the Digital Experience! show and Fossil also issued a official press-release.

The new Fossil Wrist PDA features 8MB memory. The screen is a greyscale LCD with 160x160 pixels. The screen is of course a touch screen like on a real Palm. The mini-stylus is integrated in the wristband clasp. The Wrist PDA also has infra-red and USB connectivity. The battery lasts approx. for 3 to 4 days. The PDA Watch runs Palm OS 4.1 on a Dragonball Super VZ 66Mhz CPU. The Watch can be loaded with custom Palm OS programs, it comes with the usual PIM applications installed.

The Fossil branded Wrist PDA (FX2008) is selling already at Fossil.com for $249. The lower priced Abacus brand Wrist PDA (AU5005) will be selling for $199.00 exclusively at TigerDirect.

Fossil Wrist PDA Watch Canceled

Topic:

Fossil Wrist PDA Watch Canceled Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Fossil apprently canceled the Fossil Palm OS Wrist PDA in its current version. A new more powerful and less expensive model is going to be designed and slated for release in mid 2004.

The official reason is now the 1" LCD display. Before it was the manufacturer Flextronics.

In an article on InfoWorld a Fossil Spokes Person says:
"We've had to make the hard decision over the past month to basically redesign the product," the spokesman said. "We're using this timeframe to further reduce costs and raise performance specifications so we can launch a more competitive product by the summer of 2004,".

The Article also says that people who ordered the Wrist PDA Watch at Amazon.com are taken care of. But what about the emotional damage of gadget fans getting all excited and even are able to buy the Wrist PDA and then are faced with the hard reality of Vaporware. Gizmodo.com writes its better than putting out a sub-standard product. We say do your QA before making a deal with Amazon.com. Last thing I want to say on the positive side, to put a Palm PDA in a Wrist Watch that looks not over-sized is a daring project and I applaud Fossil to keep on trying.

In the meantime Fossil gets some traction with the MSN Wrist Net Watches.

Fossil Wrist PDA in Wired's Vaporware List 2003

Topic:

Fossil Wrist PDA in Wired's Vaporware List 2003 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Wired Magazine released their 7th annual Vaporeware Awards 2003.

Duke Nukem Forever from 3DRealms got an life-time achievement award and the number 1 spot also went to a game, Half-life 2 from Valve.
On 8th place is the highly anticipated Fossil Wrist PDA watch. Fossil even took orders for a while, till they decided to postpone the release into 2004. In the meantime Fossil released the MSN Wrist Net Watches. Fossil's low-end brand Abacus also got in the news last week about a technical problem with the Abacus Wrist Net Watch. Apparently Static can zap the Watch. See a forum posting in SpotStop. Fossil is exchanging malfuncting Abacus Watches. Why Fossil launched the Abacus brand is actually not quite clear for me. Fossil is already not a high-end brand in my perception. Why create another brand with lower pricing and simpler design. Anyway I hope the Fossil Wrist PDAs will be on the market soon.

Topic:

New Fossil SPOT Wrist Net Watch Dick Tracy Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Fossil posts two new models of its Microsoft SPOT Watch Line on its site.

The new Wrist Net Dick Tracy (FX3002) and the Fossil Wrist Net Round (FX3001).
We reported about the Wrist Net Square (FX3000) a couple weeks ago. In that story we also said that all Microsoft SPOT watches are delayed till early Q1 2004. Most likely reason is that the Service is not up and running yet.

The Fossil Wrist Net Dick Tracy looks like fun and it will sell for $199. No details are available on what the Dick Tracy watch can do besides the MSN Direct Information Service that will be available on all three Fossil Wrist Net Watches.

The Wrist Net Square and Fossil Wrist Net Round will sell for $179.00.

The MSN Direct Site is already up. You can sign-up for the service if you have a SPOT Watch...
