Foxconn Pays off Family of iPhone Suicide Victim
The 'iPhone suicide' of Sun Danyong has made headlines across the tech world for the last two weeks. While we may never know the truth of what happened in Foxconn's corporate enclave, we now know how it is being resolved. We've just learned today that Foxconn is attempting to pay off the family of the deceased engineer with $44,000 dollars.
That's a substantial sum in that part of the world, but it doesn't come close to making up for the loss of a human life. If Foxconn's interrogation practices did indeed lead to Danyong's death, there's no way this is sufficient compensation. Unfortunately, considering the state of Chinese labor laws, his family was probably lucky to get even that.

Chinese Press Says Foxconn Never Hurt Employee.
The case of Sun Danyong, the Foxconn employee who committed suicide after losing a prototype 4th generation iPhone, has yet another twist. Initially, Foxconn security was suspected of torturing Danyong in order to find out what happened to the missing mobile. One of their security people was even suspended due to the suspicions.
Now a reporter from the Southern Daily, a Chinese newspaper, claims that there was no torture in the interrogation sessions. The reporter claims to have watched footage of two of the sessions, and that he saw no evidence of abuse. Not everyone is convinced yet that Foxconn had nothing to do with the suicide, though. We don't know if the tapes the reporter saw were edited, or if there were more sessions than the two he watched.

Foxconn Suicide Leads to Suspension
Yesterday we heard the tragic news that Sun Danyong (25), an engineer working for Foxconn, committed suicide over the loss of a prototype 4th generation iPhone. Apple's security has always been very tight, and they expect the same level of discretion from any companies that hope to work with them. As a result, Foxconn was overzealous in their attempts to find the lost smartphone. It has been alleged that some of their security officials even tortured the young engineer.
And now it appears that there is something to those allegations. The Hon Hai Group, who owns Foxconn, has just ordered the suspension of a security official apparently involved in the interrogation. Hon Hai stated that they do not know why Sun committed suicide, but that they had looked into the details of the investigation Foxconn carried out. They stated that they never gave authorization for anything illegal, and sent their condolences out to the young man's family.

Slim Sony PS3 Manufacturing Rumors commented by Foxconn
The rumor of a new slim Sony PS3 console got warmed up again this week. Yesterday Joystiq featured a rumor report that appeared on Chinese UDN. The report said that Foxconn and Pegatron landed the manufacturing deal for the slim Sony PS3.
Today, according to Digitimes, Foxconn issued a statement declining to comment on a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report indicating that it has landed OEM orders for a slim Sony PS3. Actually feeling the need to issue a no-comment on a rumor is raising eyebrows, at least mine.

Most enthusiasts have seen so much coverage for the high-level graphic products that it might feel like nothing exists for the lower consumer segment.

iPhone 3G Production said to run red hot at Foxconn
We know that the demand for the iPhone 3G is huge. TechCrunch reports that their sources tell them that Foxconn is now producing 800,000 iPhone 3G units per week for Apple.
Foxconn's facilities would be running above capacity to achieve that output. Over the course of 12 months Apple would be producing 40 million iPhone 3G devices at that pace.

Foxconn GeForce 9800 GTX OC 512MB Video Card Review
Benchmark Reviews published a Foxconn GeForce 9800 GTX OC 512MB Video Card Review.
Quote from the review: "NVIDIA usually pleases the enthusiast community with their product launches, and no launch has been more memorable lately than the GeForce 8800 GTX and GTS graphic card launch more than eighteen months ago. So when the 9800 GTX product line launched on April 1st, 2008 there was a lot of commotion surrounding the new crown prince. With such a successful debut of the 8800 GTX back in 2006, the level of enthusiast skepticism surrounding the new 9800 GTX was unquestionably high. First came the lower mid-level 9600 GT, and then the ultra-high level GeForce 9800 GX2 which utilized two G92 GPU cores. Yet title of fastest single-GPU video card remains the honor of NVIDIA's GeForce 9800 GTX.

New Foxconn Motherboards to feature DTS Surround Sensation and DTS Connect
Foxconn and DTS announce DTS CONNECT and DTS Surround Sensation to be integrated into upcoming FOXCONN computer motherboards.
DTS Surround Sensation uses advanced post-processing technology to deliver an incredible surround effect from just two speakers or headphones. The post-processing contains significant psycho-acoustic information that alters human perception, making one believe that sounds actually occur outside the boundaries of the two-speaker system or headphones. Developed with a key understanding of acoustics and years of knowledge in dealing with the properties of sound, DTS Surround Sensation creates a three-dimensional wall of sound that exceeds the limitations of just two speakers for an optimal surround sound experience. DTS Surround Sensation also supplements the weakened stereo image and ambience of digitally compressed audio, while keeping the monaural components (such as solo vocals) unchanged.
