Amazon Black Friday Countdown Deal Is Acer Laptop With 5 Free Game Downloads

Topic:

Amazon Black Friday Countdown Deal Is Acer Laptop With 5 Free Game Downloads Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The Amazon Black Friday Countdown deal for today is featuring the new Acer AS5738Z-4111 Windows 7 Laptop bundled with five free game downloads.
The Acer AS5738Z-4111 features an 15.6 inch screen, 2.1GHz Intel Pentium T4300 Processor, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

The price of the Acer AS5738Z is $499.99. The 5 download games are priced at $6.99 each. You save $34.95. This Acer laptop is ok, but this is not really a sexy deal, especially since I have a feeling the digital content is not valued as high as getting a package with a disc.

Free WiFi For the Holidays

Topic:

Free WiFi For the Holidays Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

You know what readers? You've all been really, really good this year. So good, that I think you've earned an early treat. Just this once, I'm going to let you all open a Christmas gift early. No, you can't open the one from Aunt Shirley yet. Here, try this one. It's from Google, and it's small but it doesn't feel like socks.

Oh man! It's free Wi-Fi in 47 separate airports from now until January 15, 2009. This'll go great with the free WiFi they're also giving out to all Virgin Airlines passengers this holiday season. This is definitely a very clever bit of image marketing on Google's part, but that doesn't mean I'll be any less grateful for it. I just got back from a two week trip to Europe, and I spent a good sixty hours of it in airports. Free WiFi at any of them would have been a very welcome blessing.

Nintendo's Next DS Will Have Free 3G?

Topic:

Nintendo's Next DS Will Have Free 3G? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

They may not want to admit it, but Nintendo is losing ground in the handheld gaming market to the iPhone. While iPhone users have access to 3G Internet wherever they go, the DS only has WiFi access. This greatly limits its usefulness as an online gaming platform, and also makes downloading games and other apps online a much less attractive proposition. Mobile gaming should be just that; mobile. Being confined to your home or a WiFi hotspot in order to game online is a serious hindrance.

While Nintendo has yet to admit that the iPhone is their #1 handheld gaming competitor, they seem to be taking action to defend against it anyway. According to Financial Times (via Electronista) the gaming giant is considering adding free 3G access to their next handheld. Satoru Iwata, the company president, stated on Friday that Nintendo is considering adding an extra up front charge to their next handheld, in exchange for free lifetime 3G access.

Topic:

Kindle For PC: A Free Windows 7 App Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Just when I'd started to lose faith in Amazon's ability to innovate, they send out a press release like this (via Giz). Today, as part of the Windows 7 roll-out, Amazon announced the launch of "Kindle for PC", a free application for reading Kindle books. On a normal PC, it'll allow you to save and bookmark your place across devices. If you read ten pages on your desktop and switch over to your Kindle, you'll find your book has advanced to the spot you left off at just a few moments ago. Also; color photos.

Freecom Releases First USB 3.0 Hard Drive For Sale Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

This week at the Intel Developer's Conference (IDF) Freecom announced the first line of USB 3.0 hard drives to hit the market. The Hard Drive XS 3.0 comes out far ahead of the pack of new 3.0 devices, most of which are set to roll out in 2010. Freecom's hard drives, however, will be out in Europe starting mid-November, according to PC World.

The company did not state when or if their drives would be available for sale outside of Europe. They did announce that the product would come in three sizes; 1 TB, 1.5 TB, and 2 TB. Prices will start at around $175 for the 1 TB drive, which is a fairly low fee to pay for the honor of being an early adopter for one of the coolest new technologies.

BioLogic FreeCharge: Turn Your Bike Into A Generator

Topic:

BioLogic FreeCharge: Turn Your Bike Into A Generator Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

If any bike-riding hippies are reading this right now, I've got the perfect product for you. The BioLogic FreeCharge allows you to use your bicycle to keep your iPod, smartphone, GPS device, or what have you, charged up at all times. The Gizmodo picture shows an iPod being used, but anything you can power off of a USB hub will work.

The FreeCharge puts a dyno on your wheels that converts the energy of their movement into electricity. Your biking charges the battery within the FreeCharge, and that battery charges your device. When this thing hits in March, it'll cost $100, and BioLogic brags that it can recharge an iPhone up to full in roughly three hours.

Nintendo Offers Wii Internet Channel For Free

Topic:

Nintendo Offers Wii Internet Channel For Free Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review One of the things that I never really liked about the Nintendo Wii was that it was Internet enabled, but if you wanted to surf the web on the console you had to buy the Internet channel. Nintendo has announced that the Internet channel is now available free of charge to all Wii owners.

The only way this isn’t good news is if you already paid for the Internet Channel. The Internet Channel can be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel and allows users to surf the net, check email, and more. Previously the internet Channel cost 500 Wii Points to download. Read more
