GPS Navigation Comes to iPod touch
The iPhone 3G and 3GS both offer GPS navigation capability thanks to built-in GPS receivers. The iPod touch on the other hand lacks a GPS receiver, which meant that it could not be used for navigation. GeoLife and PosiMotion have announced a new hardware and software solution for the iPod touch that brings GPS navigation to the device for the first time.
The system, called G-Fi, provides a mobile network/GPS router, and provides turn-by-turn navigation for the iPod touch line. The G-Fi is a onetime cost item with no additional monthly costs and it supports the entire iPod touch and iPhone range. Read more

Google Maps Navigation: Doom For GPS Manufacturers?
Can you think of any product you'd be happy to pay hundreds of dollars AND a monthly fee for if an equally good version was available for free? No? Then you can understand why the announcement of Google Maps Navigation is a bad thing for GPS makers like TomTom and Garmin. GMN, which is currently in beta, will feature turn-by-turn voice directions.
And, like all Google products, it's going to be 100% free. This means that, in the very near future, you'll be able to get turn-by-turn navigation on your smartphone at no extra cost. The software will also feature 3D views, automatic routing, and voice direction input. This means that, on the fly, you'll be able to ask your phone to, say, direct you to a gas station that's along the route you're already taking.

Amber Alert GPS 2G: Be the Clingiest Parent You Can Be
The digital age has lead to fabulous new advances in helicopter parenting. The latest gadget built to accommodate the paranoid parent is the Amber Alert GPS 2G. Basically, this device is a little GPS tracker you attach to your kid. At any time, you can text the tracker and it will respond with your child's position.
If you think THAT'S creepy, we haven't even gotten started yet. This device also allows parents to restrict their child's movement by creating a 'safe zone' for them to travel in. It doesn't say how this safe zone is enforced, which probably means that it isn't at all.

Co-Pilot: Turn-by-Turn GPS For Android
Google Maps is a cool app and all, but it isn't nearly as convenient (or as safe) as having an actual turn-by-turn satellite navigation application. For a while now, we Android fans have been left in the cold when it comes to good navigation apps, but our day has finally arrived. The CoPilot Live application from CoPilot launches today.
With CoPilot Live you get turn-by-turn voice navigation with online location mapping and your choice of either 2D or 3D guidance views. CoPilot can optimize your trip to find the most efficient route, and it also has an instant detour feature in case of traffic or unexpected closures. If you like what you hear, you can download CoPilot Live from the Android Marketplace today. It costs £25.99 in the U.K and Ireland, and £59.99 in Europe.

Garmin Recalls BlueChart g2 and g2 Vision Marine GPS Maps
Garmin has issued a voluntary recall on the data cards sold with two of its marine GPS units called the BlueChart g2 and the g2 Vision. Boaters use these charts to tell how deep water is and plot a course. Obviously bad chart data can lead to all sorts of issues from running aground to outright capsizing.
Garmin says that it is issuing a voluntary recall of the 2009 version data cards for the two affected units after it became aware that the charting information specifically around Demark and Sweden showed inaccurate colors for water depths. At least two boaters have run aground because of faulty information on the charts. Read more
