Freeverse Introduces Plank Puzzle Game for iPhone
The iPhone makes for a seriously fun gaming platform thanks to the accelerometer. It allows you to move the device all around for a very interesting control system. One of the latest puzzle games for the iPhone is called Plank from Freeverse and Strange Flavour.
Plank is a puzzle game and claims to be the first puzzle game based almost exclusively on the accelerometer. In the game, you tilt the steam powered hydraulic plank to catch colored marbles and roll them to match as they fall. If too many marbles are on the plank, it will collapse. Players collect power ups along the way. The game is available for download now for $1.99. Read more

GoLive2 Introduces Stix-Compatible MMO Racing Game
GoLive2 is the maker and seller of the Wii-like Stix controllers for PC. I tested the Stix 200 and found that accuracy was a big issue for the control system. GoLive2 has announced a new MMO racing title for the Stix controllers called GoLive2 Racing.
The game is free to play and features a lounge, paddock, and garage area. Two tracks are available to play, one is a short track, and the other is a long track. For an additional monthly fee, players can get access to additional tracks, avatars, and race car customizations. Read more

THQ Announces SpongeBob SquarePants Game
THQ has released a new video game based on SpongeBob SquarePants that features Nicktoons: Globs of Doom. The game is available on the PS2, Wii, and Nintendo DS. The game has shipped approximately 4.5 million units worldwide.
Rated E for Everyone the game will launch in Europe later in the month. Ten different playable characters are included in the game including SpongeBob, Jimmy Neutron, Danny Phantom, Invader Zim and Tak. Five villains in the game are Plankton, Professor Calamitous, Technus, div, and Tlaloc. Read more

Video Games Give Benefits to Kids say Parents
A new study from Sony Online Entertainment LLC has shown that parents are seeing benefits of kids playing video games. The survey was published exclusively in the November issue of Family Circle and suggests that parents are seeing improvements in hand/eye coordination, problem solving and typing skills.
According to the survey, games are teaching kids to think strategically. The survey found that 70% of parents who participated have seen problem solving skills improve since the kids started playing games. Key study findings include 75% of participants attribute educational value and improved hand/eye coordination to games. 84% saw an increase in typing skills after kids played PC games, 72% say kids play online games with other people some or all of the time and 80% say their kids play games in a common area of the house. Max Payne ushers in Wave of Videogame Films

The dark, atmospheric film, which stars Mark Wahlberg as a cop in search of the

Spore Gets New Content, Gameplay, and Tools
Spore has been on the market long enough now for gamers everywhere to get to the space stage and really enjoy the game. EA has announced that it will be introducing expansion and booster packs to add new elements to the game.
EA has announced that a Space stage expansion pack is being developed alongside a Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack that allows players to design characters that are either cartoon cute or creepy monsters. The Space stage expansion pack is the most interesting to me. Read more

Crysis Warhead PC Game Review
Today we are checking out Crysis Warhead, the second installment in the Crysis Franchise. The game is fantastic, offering up great gameplay, good graphics, and loads of customization.

Spore for PC Video Game Review
Today we are looking at one of the most fun and enjoyable PC games I have played for a long time -- Spore. The game has a massive story line and offers so much customization possibilities that no two games will play the same.
The sole drawback to the game is the copy protection software that is required to install the game. If you have a problem with copy protection software, I suggest you don’t buy Spore. Read more

Google extends AdSense to online Games
(Reuters) - Google Inc on Wednesday launched technology to insert advertisements
into online video games and boost revenue from the booming gaming sector.
The software, called AdSense for Games, is in beta testing and allows video,
image or text advertisements to placed at the start, end or change of level in
an online game.
The advertisers are charged on a cost-per-impression or cost-per-click basis
with revenue being split between Google and game developers or publishers, it
said in a statement.

Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3 RAM for Gamers
Crucial has unveiled a new set of RAM for gamers and PC enthusiasts called Ballistix Tracer DDR3. The RAM operates at 1333MHz and is PC3-10600 with low latency. Crucial says that the RAM is the first to offer activity indication LED lights.
The RAM is aimed at users who want high performance and flashy looks and is perfect for users with windowed cases or modders looking for something to add flash to a computer. The PCB is black and in addition to LEDs along the top of each RAM module, there are eight blue LEDs near the RAM socket for a constant glow. Kits of 2GB or 4GB as well as individual 1GB or 2GB sticks will be offered. Read more

Gameloft Releasing Midnight Bowling for WiiWare
Gameloft has announced that it will be releasing a bowling game called Midnight Bowling for the Wii. The game is available only as a download via WiiWare. Gameloft says that this is the fifth title it has developed for WiiWare.
Midnight Bowling retails for 800 Wii points. Players can chose to challenge up to three friends in multiplayer battles or play alone in career mode. The controls are precise and offer advanced spin control. Career mode puts players in trendy locations and the look of the ball can be customized. Read more

Nintendo Unveils Holiday Wii Gear and Games
Nintendo has announced new gear and games for its Wii console for the holiday season. One of the biggest announcements is one that we talked about in July called Wii Speak. The Wii Speak channel will go online November 16th and will allow up to four people to chat online. The service requires the new Wii Speak accessory retailing for $29.99.
Nintendo also says that supplies of the Wii in America will see significant increases between October and December compared to 2007 levels. Considering you couldn’t find the console during the holiday season last year, that is good news. Read more

GameSpot Announces 20 Most Anticipated 2008 Holiday Season Games
With the holiday season fast approaching you can guarantee if you have kids old enough that there are tons of video games on their holiday wish lists. This holiday season some seriously interesting titles are being announced and many of them are follow-ups to some of the most popular game franchises to hit the PC or console systems.
GameSpot has put out its list of the top 20 most anticipated games for the 2008 holiday season. All of the games on the list will launch between August and December of this year. "The hundreds of new games releasing this fall might be overwhelming for people new to games," said Ricardo Torres, editor in chief, GameSpot. "Given that every penny counts in today's economy, we want to point people in the right direction with this list of games from a broad range of genres that are generating the most interest from the GameSpot editors as well as the GameSpot community." EA signs Video Game Deal with ''300'' Director
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc has signed a deal
for Hollywood director Zack Snyder, who made the hit 2006 film "300," to help
develop video games, some of which may someday become movies themselves.
The agreement, announced on Monday, calls for Snyder, who also directed 2004's
"The Dawn of the Dead" and is working on a film adaptation of the "Watchmen"
comic book series, to develop three original games for EA.

Klitschko Brothers Get their Own mobile Boxing Game
Anyone who follows boxing knows that the heavyweight division is lacking today. Two of the most promising heavyweight boxers are the Klitschko brothers Vitali and Wladimir. Mobile game maker Artificial Life has produced a mobile boxing game for mobile phones.
Boxing matches in the game are held in training rooms, large arenas, players get tips between rounds in their corner, and codes can be entered to enhance the gameplay. Here's hoping that the game is more exciting than the heavyweight division. Read more

Aptus Mini-Motion Game Cars of Fury Launches
We have talked about the Aptus Mini-Motion games before with the controllers that look like different things from cars to sports equipment. The company announced today that its first Mini-Motion title called Cars of Fury would be available in Q4.
The game is compatible with both Mac and PC. Players will be driving RC cars through jumps and with weapons to blow up their rival drivers. No installation is required for the game, all content streams directly from the game disc. Cars of Fury will retail for $19.99. Read more

Superstruct Massively Multiplayer Forecasting Game
A new game called Superstruct, being billed as the world's first massively multiplayer forecasting game was announced today. The game was designed by renowned game designer Jane McGonigal. Superstruct is set in 2019 and begins with fictional findings of a supercomputer that predicts the human species will be extinct in 23 years.
The game revolves around a set of super-threats that represent the collapse of the environment, economy, social risks, and society disruptions. The game is played on forums, blogs, videos, wikis and other online spaces. Read more

Resident Evil Degeneration Game comes to Nokia N-Gage
Nokia and Capcom announce Resident Evil Degeneration will be released on N-Gage later this year.
The game, partly based on the upcoming full-length CG motion picture of the same name to be released in theaters in October in Japan, focuses on the release of a deadly virus by a terrorist at a US airport and follows series favorites Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, as they attempt to destroy the virus and prevent it from being dispersed across the country. Resident Evil Degeneration is the first full-length CG motion picture from the Resident Evil series, widely considered to be the benchmark of the survival horror video game genre.

Wii Shortage continues this Holidays says Gamestop
GameStop CEO Dan DeMatteo sees no near-term end for Wii shortage in the United States. Nintendo sold 448,000 Wii consoles in the U.S. last month, but the demand is still so high that the Wii is hard to find. I reported about Walmart selling the Wii online for the standard price of $249 a week ago. The offer was actually available for several hours, which was surprising. Of course it is now long gone.
Nintendo has apparently ramped up Wii production by 20%, but Gamestop's CEO says that this is not helping.
