GameStop Also Plans Midnight Release For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Yesterday we reported that Best Buy will be doing a nationwide midnight release for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on November 10. Today, Gamestop has announced that they will also be doing a midnight opening for this latest CoD. In case you haven't heard, the first Modern Warfare was the bestselling FPS game in history (so far).
It's not hard to see why both Best Buy and Gamestop are excited. Modern Warfare 2 shows every sign of being a chart-topper. Unless Infinity Ward has seriously managed to muck things up with this one, it's going to be huge.

Mosquitoes Augmented Reality Game For iPhone 3GS launched
I am a sucker for augmented reality apps (AR) and therefore had to try out Mosquitoes right away when developer Makayama pointed me to it.
The iPhone game Mosquitoes lets you shoot animated mosquitoes that are infesting your room. The game uses besides the camera, the compass and accelerometer to realistically let you hunt down the mosquitoes around you.
Try playing this AR Game on a rotating office chair - it works quite well.

The Waiting Game: OLED Cheaper Than LCD By 2016
Early-adopters are people who don't mind being screwed on cost. They're fine picking up a $2000 television that'll be worth half that much in six months time, as long as they can claim to be ahead of the curve. I bought my G1 last year knowing full well that, within a few months, my mobile would be outstripped by every other smartphone on the market. It was worth it to be one of the first Android users.
For people who don't care about nerd bragging rights, it's important to know when the latest and greatest will be cheap and effective enough to be a worthwhile buy. Take OLED technology, for instance. While tech geeks might be cool with dropping thousands of dollars on a 15 monitor, normal people would rather get a 50 LCD screen instead. OLED just isn't cheap enough to be a viable choice for most folks, but the day when it will be is coming up.

Transformers, Revenge Of The Fallen: AR Game Review
If you're reading this blog, you've heard about the Transformers sequel. The first was a critically panned, enormously successful popcorn movie. The second was...well, the exact same thing. Don't get me wrong; I have no problems with the Transformers franchise. They're not my cup of tea, but there's nothing wrong with enjoying them. I love the Ace Ventura movies, so I have absolutely no room to condescend.
Anyway, this review isn't about the movie, or even really the DVD. It's about a special augmented reality game (Ships Today from Amazon) included with the DVD. In order to unlock the game, you'll have to visit this website and present your newly purchased box to a webcam in order to gain access. It may take some doing to get the whole front in, and focused well enough to grant you access.

ThinkComputers published a review of the iBUYPOWER Gamer Paladin E870 i7 Gaming System.
Quote from the review: "When it comes to gamers they want the newest and most powerful gaming systems out there. They really only have 2 choices, build a gaming PC themselves or get a custom gaming PC built for them. There are really only a few of reliable, well known custom builders out there and today we will be taking a look at a system from once such builder, iBUYPOWER.

Zune HD: Apps, Movies, and Games En Route
Microsoft doesn't want to be Apple, but they want oh-so-badly to beat them in a few key areas. One of those areas is consumer media player technology. Apple has the edge (and 2/3rds of the market) with the iPod line. While the Zune HD is a solid piece of gadgetry, it doesn't come close to having the name recognition or market share of the iPod.
That's why Microsoft decided to look very closely at the business model for the iPod touch before getting to work on their Zune HD. Boy Genius reports that Redmond has admitted they have a big slew of games and apps on the horizon for the HD. New apps coming down the pipe include Twitter and Facebook for Zune, while new games include Project Gotham Racing: Ferrari Edition, Vans Sk8: Pool Service, and Audiosurf Tilt.

New iPod Touch Has No Camera Because It Is A Game Console
The biggest disappointed (possibly the only one) from yesterday's Apple Event was the lack of video cameras in the new iPod touch.
Apple only lowered the pricing and introduced a 64GB iPod touch. The new iPod nano got a video camera that can only record video and not take photos.
In an interview with David Pogue, Steve Jobs said that Apple is marketing the iPod touch as a gaming console and it was important to keep the price as low as possible. That is why there is no camera in the iPod touch.

Chinese electronics makers turn up the heat on the current market leaders in the West and in Asia. The times are over where the big guys can delay releases or mess up a product launch. Take Chinese company Digiwinner. According to German magazine Heise the Chinese game accessory maker showed a low-cost 3D camera that can track 15 objects in a distance of 5 meters.
The Digiwinner Eagle Eyes (Eagleyes) camera is supposed to be able to retail for around $60.

Get Drunk, Play Street Fighter: The Arkeg Drink-n-Game
There are very few gadgets out there worth dropping $4000 dollars on. Even for a high-end gaming PC or HD TV, that's pushing it. And yet, I find myself wanting to blow that huge chunk of change on a machine that can only handle 24-bit arcade games. The Arkeg Drink-n-Game (via Gizmodo) represents the apex of nerd party toys.
This glorious machine consists of a 23 1080i LCD monitor with a Dell GX260 SFF PC inside it. That cheapo processor can't handle much, but it's more than enough to play any arcade game or emulator from the glory days of console gaming. It's also got WiFi, DVD playback, and a karaoke program, in addition to 69 pre-loaded arcade games (Mortal Kombat II is mentioned specifically). There is a stow-away keyboard, and a traditional arcade control layout.
