HP Launches the Blackbird Gaming PC

Topic:

HP Launches the Blackbird Gaming PC Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

HP has produced their first HP branded high end gaming rig since they bought Voodoo PC. The new rig is called the Blackbird 002 and its main claim to fame is the use of off the shelf components for upgradeability.

HP says you can upgrade everything form the CPU to the graphics card and RAM when you want to with components from any vendor. Really the only thing special I see about this system is the case they choose to put it in and it’s only remarkable for the design. There are multiple PC case manufacturers out there making PC cases that use a compartment design to reduce heat, like the Cooler Master Cosmos I reviewed not too long ago. Try again HP, nothing new there to brag about.

Everything else they are so proud of you can do yourself, for significantly less than the $2500 to $6500 the Blackbird is rumored to sell for. The only hard specs I have on the system are that it will use a 1.1KW PSU, be overclockable in the BIOS and have a tool-less entry design. Read more

Commodore Gaming launches Sick Beige Gaming PC at CeBit 2007

Topic:

Commodore Gaming launches Sick Beige Gaming PC at CeBit 2007 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Commodore Gaming launched a line of gaming PCs with bold case designs at CeBit 2007.

The company owning the Commodore brand tries to leverage the Commodore sentimentality of consumers who owned a C64 or VC20. I owned a C16, C128 and still have a VC20 in my treasure chest. The VC20 is actually my first mod. I added the missing reset button. Still, I do not feel any attachment or even trust into something that is branded Commodore today for state-of-the-art gaming performance. They need to prove themselves to be up to snuff compared to Dell's Alienware and other custom gaming PC outfits.

I like the Commodore's C-Kin custom skinning concept. To show though that you are a Commodore addict you need to pick the C64 "sick beige" as case color and not one of the colorful and pretty skins.
