Garmin Oregon 400t GPS Introduced
Outdoors types that are always looking for the next GPS gadget to make life easier have a new device from Garmin to check out called the Oregon 400t. The 400t is waterproof and uses a color 3-inch screen and a high-sensitivity GPS receiver.
The device uses Garmin’s new HotFix feature that allows the device to store position information so it can calculate positions quicker without needing to go back to the satellite for data. The device is loaded with U.S. topographic maps in a 3D elevation perspective. The device also offers shoreline features for inland lakes and navigable rivers. The 400t weighs 6.8 ounces and has 16 hours of battery life from a pair of AA’s. Pricing and availability are unknown. Read more

Garmin signs Deal with GyPSii Location-Based Services
GyPSii and Garmin Sign Global Multi-year agreement for Location-Based Services and Social Networking.
Under the terms of the agreement, GyPSii will provide technology, products, worldwide data center infrastructure, development licenses, and GyPSii branding rights to Garmin, on a worldwide non-exclusive basis for a range of Garmin products.
Garmin anticipates that future products will include friend finding applications that support the GyPSii-powered location-based social networking services platform.

Garmin Mobile has a sweet deal that will allow BlackBerry users a lifetime of Gamin satellite navigation on their specific BlackBerry device for the lifetime of that device. The one-time fee for the lifetime service is $99.99.
That is a good price for heavy users of navigation service, so long as you don’t intend on upgrading your phone soon. For the price users get unlimited access to Garmin’s turn-by-turn voice prompted direction service and dynamic content like traffic, weather forecasts, fuel prices and more. Read more

Garmin Provides Navigator for Samsung Mobile Phones
Garmin announced today that it would be the provider for navigation services on Samsung Mobile phones. Garmin will provide its turn-by-turn, voice prompted navigation directly on Samsung phones. The navigation service is based on Garmin Mobile XT software.
Handsets using the Garmin technology are expected to be available in Europe and other countries in the coming months. The only handsets Samsung specifically says will feature the Garmin Mobile XT software is the Samsung i780. Read more

Garmin to power Kenwood Car Navigation Devices
Garmin announced today that it is the exclusive navigation supplier to Kenwood's new 2008 lineup of in-dash automotive electronics.
Garmin and Kenwood will work together on print, radio, and online advertising, as well as a dedicated internet site and point of purchase materials to inform customers. The program will extend through 2008.

Garmin’s Affordable nuvi 2x5 Series
Garmin launched a new series of GPS units at CeBIT today called the 2x5 series. The series includes the nuvi 255 and 255w. The nuvi 255 has a 3.5-inch screen and the 255w has a 4.5-inch screen. Both displays feature a shaded elevation mapping system.
Both models can also utilize Garmin Connect Photos allowing users to download geo-located photos provided by Google Panoramio photo sharing. Both devices are powered by a 333 MHz processor and use Garmin’s new HotFix feature that calculates position information without needing further satellite information. Read more

Garmin Announces NASCAR Sponsorship
Garmin announced today that it had signed on to sponsor the Gillett Evernham Motorsports Team in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this year. Garmin will become an associate sponsor for the number 19 Gillett Evernham Motorsport team in the 2008 Sprint Cup series.
The car is driven by Elliott Sadler and Best Buy is the cars primary sponsor. "As Garmin continues to set the standard with innovative technology, it seemed fitting once again to partner with Best Buy to sponsor an event so heavily followed by Garmin users," said Dan Bartel, Garmin's vice president of worldwide sales. "We're excited to be on board with NASCAR and the Best Buy team, and we are confident in the user connection that this partnership brings." Read more

CES 2008: Garmin nuvi 5000
Garmin introduces a new GPS device series with a large screen at the CES 2008. The new Garmin nüvi 5000 boasts a 5.2 inch screen.
Besides navigation the Garmin nuvi 5000 features an internal MP3 player, audio book player and games. The built-in MP3 player lets you browse music by artist, album, song, or genre. Music can be loaded onto an SD card. The nüvi 5000 is also compatible with audible.com, a subscription based audio book service. A handful of games are preloaded on the nüvi to help passengers pass the time. All music or speech files can be emitted over the vehicle’s existing speakers, through the nüvi’s built-in FM wireless transmitter or via the unit’s 3.5mm stereo output jack. The entertainment audio is muted when navigation instructions are given.
