Black Friday 2009 To See More Shoppers Says ICSC And Goldman Sachs Survey

Topic:

Black Friday 2009 To See More Shoppers Says ICSC And Goldman Sachs Survey Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review There are many surveys and predictions about the 2009 holiday shopping season and Black Friday 2009 in particular. One new survey that was published yesterday caught my eye because it was published by ICSC and Goldman Sachs.
ICSC is the International Council of Shopping Centers. The organization had Opinion Research Corporation conduct a survey of 1,000 randomly selected consumers between 10/29 and 11/01.
According to the survey's result 16% of consumers will start their holiday shopping on Black Friday. This is up 6% from the ICSC 2008 survey.

Kopin Golden-i Wearable Microdisplay: Cyberpunk As Hell

Topic:

Kopin Golden-i Wearable Microdisplay: Cyberpunk As Hell Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Have you ever wanted to look like an extra in a cheesy sci-fi channel movie (starring Bruce Campbell)? If so, Kopin's new headset might be for you. At first glance, the Golden-i looks like a very overbuilt mic+headset combo. That impression dies as soon as you notice the .34" SVGA display built into the headband.

That's right; the Golden-i is a full-on wearable computer with Bluetooth, Windows CE 6.0, 6 GB of memory and microSD support. It has (presumably) some sort of accelerometer, because The Inquirer (Via Engadget) says that you navigate using head movements as well as (less-effective) voice commands. Kopin isn't ready to release yet, but they say that the price should come in "under $2,000", which isn't at all reassuring.

Whoopi Goldberg & Other Celebrities Endorse myTouch 3G

Topic:

Whoopi Goldberg & Other Celebrities Endorse myTouch 3G Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

T-Mobile is about to roll out with a brand new series of commercials featuring a cast of celebrities endorsing the myTouch 3G Android smartphone. Talk Android has a copy of the first of these commercials, which features Whoopi Goldberg, Phil Jackson, & Jesse James. More ads and purchase information for the smartphone ($199 w/2 year contract) can be found on the T-Mobile website here.

The main selling point in these ads appears to be the myriad of customization options available to users who pick the myTouch 3G (or any Android smartphone, really). I've got no doubts that a star-studded ad campaign will fetch a fortune for T-Mobile. But, if you're looking to grab a new Android smartphone, I'd hold off for a little bit.

Solid Gold Vertu Phone for Rich Wankers

Topic:

Solid Gold Vertu Phone for Rich Wankers Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Vertu makes some of the most expensive mobile phones in the world, and its latest handset continues that tradition. The handset is called the Vertu Boucheron 150 and it's constructed of solid gold. I think the design is very weird looking with lots of planes and angles.

The case of the phone is built from a single piece of gold and is said to take more than 2,000 hours to build by hand. The phone ships in a luxury wooden box. The actual phones internals are unknown; in fact, the only fact about the phone part of the Vertu handset is that it offers 3G connectivity. Read more

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review OCModShop published a review of Hellboy 2: The Golden Army movie.

Quote from the review: "Hollywood is often littered with decisions that in hindsight seem to be utterly insane. For all of the big budgeted films that go on to do huge business, there are films such as Waterworld, Howard The Duck, Hudson Hawk, and countless others that make you scratch your head and wonder who thought they were worth the investment of millions of dollars that were needed to bring them to the big screen. Golden Clone Contest Gives Away Dog Clone

Topic:

Golden Clone Contest Gives Away Dog Clone Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review This has to be the weirdest giveaway in history. A company called BioArts is giving away what they call the golden clone. Basically the sweepstakes is to allow people who tell the company why their dog should be cloned and the winner actually gets a free dog clone.

It all sounds very Pet Cemetery to me. The giveaway is open to anyone in the world and to win entrants must write an essay of approximately 500 words telling BioArts why their pet deserves to be cloned. The deadline to enter for the sweepstakes is June 10th and a photo of the dog must be uploaded. Read more

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures Goes Gold Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review One of the coolest games that I saw at last year’s E3 Convention was Age of Conan. "Even though it feels like this great adventure is coming to an end, it's really not at all. The launch is just the beginning," says Game Director/Producer Gaute Godager. "I believe we have created a game that will stand the test of time by its own accord, but we are already busy planning future features and expansions. We want to continue expanding Conan's world for many years to come, and we have great ideas on what to do!" Read more
