Google Chrome first Impressions
Google Chrome browser is now available for download. The download was pretty quick and my first couple minutes with Chrome where rather pleasant.
The rendering speed is great. Of course Safari's speed is similarly good, but I still use IE7. Next I imported my Internet Explorer bookmarks, passwords and settings. This worked pretty well. What I missed was the Home button, which I am totally used to. The home button is not available by default on Chrome.

Google Chrome Download available now
The Google Chrome Browser is available for download now. The extremely hyped new web browser is in beta now and is based on the same rendering engine as Apple Safari.
The Google Chrome Press conference is still going on, but the Chrome download pages are live now. You can download Chrome on the Google Gears site.

Google Chrome Download supposed to start in about 2hours
Google is holding a press-conference at 11am PDT in their Mountain View head quarters. The download of the Google Chrome Browser should begin around that time.
The Google Chrome announcement yesterday is still driving most tech news today. Henry Blodget calls the Chrome Browser already the Cloud Operating System and sees Google launching a major weapon against the Microsoft Windows OS domination.

Google Chrome Browser impact on Mozilla explained by John Lilly
The Google Chrome Download launch is imminent and the web is going crazy over Google Chrome and it's possible impact. I am still against a new web browser, but it is a power play that will take place no matter what. John Lilly CEO of Mozilla Corporation already blogged about how he sees Google Chrome impacting Mozilla.
First of all he welcomes more competition. Firefox 3 is an incredible great browser says John Lilly and 3.1 will be even better.

Google set to introduce its own Web Browser

browser designed to more quickly handle video-rich or other complex Web
programs, posing a challenge to browsers designed originally to handle text and
graphics.
Google officials confirmed news of long-rumored plans to offer its own Web
browsing software, entitled Google Chrome, in a company blog post after it
mistakenly mailed details of the plan to a Google-watching blog, called
Blogoscoped.com.

Google Chrome Screenshot leaked
The Google Chrome download did not officially start yet, but the Chrome download page was briefly live already. The pages where online long enough for some screenshots of the new Google browser to leak out.
As Google already revealed in the Google Chrome Comic book Chrome features the tab bar above the address bar. The homepage of Google Chrome features by default an app launch pad.

Google Chrome Browser launches Today
As reported Google sent out a comic book unveiling the Google Chrome browser. Google now also officially announced Chrome on their blog and says that the beta version of Google Chrome will be available for download today.
Google's reason to launch a new web browser is their believe that they can add value for users and, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web.

Google Chrome Browser explained as Comic
Google apparently chose an interesting way to announce their open source web browser project dubbed Chrome. They hired Comic legend Scott McCloud (known best for Understanding Comics) to draw up a 38 page comic book explaining Google Chrome.
Google Chrome browser is based on Webkit and will include Google Gears and a Javascript engine called V8.
The Chrome browser features tabs above the menu to stand out.

Verizon, Google close to Mobile Search Deal
The WSJ reports that Google and Verizon are close to a search deal.
The deal would make Google's search the default on all mobile devices on the Verizon Wireless network.
The deal is not finalized yet, but it seems Google already beat Microsoft for the Verizon deal.

Apple worth more than Google
Apple has surpassed Google in market capitalization as of yesterday. Google stands at $157.23B and Apple at $158.84B. The news made its round quickly through the Apple focused blogs.
To compare Apple with Google is in my mind not really making sense. I rather see Apple competing with Microsoft. Microsoft stands currently at a market capitalization of $254.83B.

Olympics 2008 in 3D on Google Earth
Google announced several services for the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing including detailed 3D models of the Olympic venues in China.
Google also recently updated satellite imagery in Beijing and have added detailed bilingual maps in China.

Google Draws fire for Hypocrisy
Google is under fire for issuing contradictory statements on privacy. In California Google told California State Assemblyman Joel Anderson, "Google takes privacy very seriously." On the same day a Google "Evangelist," named Vint Cerf told participants in the Washington Technology Alliance's luncheon that, "nothing you do ever goes away, and nothing you do ever escapes notice... There isn't any privacy, get over it."
Aaron and Christine Boring filed a suit against Google for invasion of privacy after a Google Street View vehicle with cameras drove down their private drive to take images of their Pennsylvania home. In response to the suit Google stated, "Today's satellite-image technology means that even in today's desert, complete privacy does not exist." Read more

HTC Google Android still on Track for Q4
In June the WSJ reported about some Android delays that would push the release of Android phones into 2009. Digitimes reports that HTC is still on track to ship Google Android mobile phones in Q4 of 2008 to carriers.
Even if HTC is shipping Android phones, it might still take carriers some time to actually get these phones into stores.

Google opened its new Knol service to the public today. The company announced Knol last December.
Knols are authoritative articles about specific topics, written by people who know about those subjects. The key principle behind Knol is authorship. Every knol will have an author (or group of authors) who put their name behind their content. It's their knol, their voice, their opinion.

Google buys Digg for $200m?
TechCrunch reports that Google is in final negotiations to acquire Digg for around $200 million.
Google was apparently in acquisition mode for the last six weeks.
The deal is said to still take several weeks and because of ties to Microsoft the deal could still fall apart.
