Annual Gran Turismo Awards at SEMA 2008 Crowns Best of Show

The best of show has been crowned at SEMA 2008 in the sixth annual Gran Turismo awards. The winner will be featured in a future Gran Turismo game. Gran Turismo is the best selling franchise in the world with over 50 million titles sold. The winner of the awards was JR Rocha and his 2007 Infinity G37.

Other winners at SEMA 2008 included Best Truck/SUV to John Wargo and his 1930 Chevy; Best European Import went to Robert Gal and his Volkswagen Concept. Best Domestic Automobile went to James Shipka and his 1967 Camaro Rally Sport, and Best Hot Rod went to Jason Lavign for the Factory Five Racing 1933 hot rod. Read more

Gran Turismo TV coming to GT5 Prologue on PS3 tomorrow

Sony will release a Gran Turismo 5 Prologue update tomorrow Friday that includes the Gran Turismo TV show player that was announced at the E3 2008.

Gran Turismo TV is possibly the first ever in-game automotive media channel. Car fans will be able to choose between free and pay-per-view programming, including Top Gear, UK’s premier car entertainment program, and Japan’s Best Motoring video magazine. Read more

Gran Turismo Series Shipment exceeds 50 Million

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced today that the cumulative worldwide shipment of the Gran Turismo franchise available on PlayStation, PS2, and PS3 has exceeded 50 million units as of April 30, 2008.

Sony achieved this sales figure in 10 years and 4 months since the launch of the first title in the franchise - Gran Turismo, in December 1997.
If you compare that to the 6 million copies GTA IV sold in just one week these Gran Turismo sales numbers look a bit weak. Of course these two games are very different and we should not compare them. Still GTA set a new level of what it means to have a sales record in the video game market. Read more

Today we are taking a look at one of the coolest racing games ever to grace the PS3—Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The game is sort of an appetizer to the full Gran Turismo 5 game due out in a year or so and it is well worth the cost of admission.

Sony PS3 Gran Turismo 5: Prologue ships

Sony announced today that the highly anticipated appetizer of Gran Turismo 5 is shipping today to retailers in North America. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue for the Sony PS3 will be available for download from the Playstation Store starting this Thursday April 17th.

The Blu-ray version of GT5: Prologue will include an exclusive behind-the-scenes HD video feature called "Beyond the Apex," offering a closer look at the franchise's history. Both versions are available for a recommended retail price of $39.99. Amazon.com takes orders and expects to ship the Blu-ray version of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue on the 17th. Read more

Logitech Announces Compatibility for Several Racing Wheels & Gran Turismo HD

Anyone who has downloaded the Gran Turismo HD Concept version 1.2 demo at the Playstation store to their PS3 knows it is one seriously sweet looking game. To go along with the realistic graphics the game offers, Logitech has now announced compatibility for force feedback with the game and several of their racing wheels.

Logitech says that their Logitech Driving Force Pro, Logitech Driving Force EX and Logitech Driving Force steering wheels will all support force feedback for the new 1.2 version of the game. Read more

Gran Turismo HD

Sony revealed details, photos and a concept video and the final name of the Sony PS3 car racing game Gran Turismo HD at the TGS 2006.

GT HD looks amazing - especially the surrounding. Still the cars have pixelated lines, what is up with anti-aliasing? The real world does not have pixelated lines. See this screen shot in 1920x1080p resolution. I hope that looks better during moving game play. Read more
