GreenPlug to show Universal Power Protocol Chip at CES 2008
GreenPlug will show the first environmentally-friendly DC power hub at the CES 2008.
GreenPlug will show an Universal Power Protocol (UPP) Chip called the GreenPlug.
GreenPlug wants to get rid of the device-specific external DC power supplies and replace it with an intelligent universal one. To optimize the power consumption of any connected device to GreenPlug, the power supply is 'talking' to the gadget via a protocol called GreenTalk.

Greenpeace Clash of the Consoles
Greenpeace mobilizes against video game console makers Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft. Greenpeace argues that consoles contain toxic chemicals and can contribute to the massive growth of electronic waste that's often dumped, causing widespread environmental pollution and health problems for unprotected workers.
Greenpeace wants Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft to clean up their products by eliminating hazardous substances and to take back and recycle their products responsibly once they become obsolete.

Green Asus Eee PC 4G Surf appears and ships
An unannounced green Asus Eee PC 4G Surf is apparently shipping in Taiwan. We reported about a spring colored Asus Eee 2G Surf to be hitting the shelves in early 2008. A colored 4G Surf Eee PC was unknown.
Two Taiwan based sellers offer the green Asus Eee PC 4G (4G SSD and 512MB RAM) on the German eBay.

Nokia Siemens sees Profit from "greener" Networks

Western Digital's Green Hard Drive
Western Digital announced its latest enterprise hard drive today which reduces energy usage and lowers costs for data centers. The new GreenPower family of HDDs range from 500GB to 1TB storage capacity.
The drives are reliability rated at 1.2 million hours mean time between failure in high duty cycle environments. WD says these drives can reduce power usage by 40%. "Delivering up to 40 percent savings in hard drive power consumption, Western Digital's new RE2-GP hard drives are an excellent choice for customers deploying Rackable Systems' newest generation of Eco-Logical storage systems -- enabling even greater efficiency and performance," said Tony Gaughan, chief products officer of Rackable Systems. Trolltech Qtopia Linux Greenphones sold out
Trolltech announces that they sold out of their Linux developer mobile phones and will not re-stock it. Trolltech introduced the Greenphone in August of 2006.
For Trolltech the mission of jump starting the open phone developer community with hardware has been accomplished. Trolltech will continue to support the Qtopia Greenphone community with new software releases in the coming months, but recommends the Neo 1973 from FIC as developer handsets.

Greenspan Group presses Case to buy Dow Jones Stake
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Internet entrepreneur Brad Greenspan said on Monday he has
gained the support of five investor groups interested in buying a stake in and
investing in Dow Jones & Co. Inc. to thwart News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch's
$5 billion buyout offer.
A source familiar with the matter said the five possible investors are Intel
Corp's, Intel Capital, Apex Partners, Jana Partners, a unit of Softbank Corp and

LG Green Banana Phone LG-SV280
LG introduces the so called Green Banana Phone LG-SV280 in Korea. The company introduced the first LG-SV280 in plain white early April.
This LG slider has a curved shape similar to the Motorola Z8.
The MOTORIZR Z8 has a way better feature set compared to the LG-SV280, which is more like a fashion phone.

New York Yellow Cabs go Green with Hybrids
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced to have all cabs in New York would be hybrid cars by 2012.
There are 13,000 licensed yellow cabs in the big Apple. This will not be an easy feat to replace all of them within 5 years with hybrid cars like the Ford Escape Hybrid.

The cult Burning Man festival has a green theme this year.
The Green Man celebrates nature and will feature several environmental friendly installations.
Artist Jim Mason created the Mechabolic. Mechabolic will be converting the festival's garbage into clean energy as people walk around inside it to see the process in action.

Evergreen Allows You to Connect Two HDMI Devices to One HDMI Input on the Cheap
If you are the owner of a HDTV, even a mere year or so old you may be stuck with a problem you haven’t even noticed yet, one HDMI port. A while back, one HDMI port was enough and many HDTVs shipped with a single.
However, as any one who has jumped into the HD age can tell you one HDMI doesn’t really cut it. You need one for your HD Cable or satellite converter and one for your Blu-ray or HD DVD player at a minimum. Unless you enjoy making trips to the TV to change your HDMI cable form the cable box to your high def DVD player you are going to need something like this switch from Evergreen. Read more
