Guitar Hero World Tour is shipping now. OCModShop took this time to release a comparison between Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2. See the review to help to decide which music game is the right poison for you to rock all out.
Quote from the comparison: "Improved Rock Band instruments is great, but they don't really seem to hold a candle to the new Guitar Hero gear. For one, not only is the new Guitar Hero controller better made, but it is now "full sized". It is much bigger than the toy-like wireless Gibson, which looks like an ukelele when slapped against my immense torso. The new GH guitar also has innovative solo buttons, but unlike the Rock Band buttons, these are touch sensitive and have a much different feel. It almost feels like you're finger-tapping a real guitar (without all the pain), but it is very easy to lose your finger placement (and your fingers need to be spread out slightly farther than when holding the fret buttons). Switching back and forth between the touch slider and the fret buttons will undoubtedly make you miss a few notes while getting your bearings. Read more

Guitar Hero World Tour Now Available

Activision's music game Guitar Hero World Tour is now available to purchase in stores and online. The Rock Band-like multiplayer Guitar Hero game adds a singer and drummer to the guitar play mix. Cameos from legendary musicians are included in the game and download tracks will be made available for purchase for all platforms including the Wii.

The initial track list has 86 tunes from bands like The Eagles, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, and more. Guitar Hero fans wanting a more cooperative play environment that allows more friends to get into the action have waited for this game. It will be interesting to see if Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero World Tour sells more this holiday season. Read more

Logitech Announced Premier Wireless Guitar for Guitar Hero

Logitech has unveiled its new Logitech Wireless Guitar Controller, Premiere Edition for the PS3 and PS2. The controller is the first in the planned line of peripherals and controllers for Guitar Hero games. The controller has a wood neck, rosewood fingerboard and metal frets.

Logitech uses rubber dome technology on the fret buttons to reduce noise when the controller is in use. The rubber dome is the same technology used on its line of keyboards. A touch sensitive neck slider is close to the fret buttons so strumming isn't always necessary. Wireless 2.4 GHz connectivity is used in the guitar to give 30 feet of range. The guitar will be available in December for $249.99. Read more

Target to Host Guitar Hero World Tour Challenge

Target has announced that it will be hosting the first Guitar Hero World Tour challenge at the E for All Expo in LA that kicks off today. Teams of four will be able to rock to the games set list with tracks including the Beastie Boys and Modest Mouse.

Players can win over $2000 cash in addition to merchandise and Target Gift Cards. Players wanting to participate can sign up at the show Friday or Saturday and have to make it through preliminary rounds with the final being Sunday. Read more

Activision Unveils Guitar Hero World Tour Set List

In an effort to steal a bit of the thunder from Rock Band 2, which launched for the Xbox 360 Sunday, the full set list for Guitar Hero World Tour has been announced. Notable tracks include the staple of Rocky films Eye of the Tiger, the Van Halen Classic: Hot for Teacher, and The Eagles: Hotel California.

Activision says that the full on-disc set list will be available on October 26th. The set list also includes Beat it by Michael Jackson. The game will feature a new guitar controller, drum kit and mic. The set list for on-disc music is below. Read more

Back in June, we talked a little bit about the guitar controllers bearing the name and designed with the assistance of tween rockers Aly & AJ. The controllers will come from PDP and actual product shots are now available.

PS3 Guitar Hero Guitars and Drums work with Rock Band 2

Sony announced today that they have been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PS3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility.
That means you can use a Guitar Hero Guitar or Drum with Rock Band 2 software and vice versa.
The music hardware of Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero are also compatible with Rock Revolution and vice versa.

Sony is still working to ensure compatibility between the Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles currently available. Read more

You would have to be oblivious to the gaming world to not know that music based games like Guitar Hero are among the hottest game titles available right now. The recording industry knows how hot the games are right now for sure.

Activision has announced a new mobile version of Guitar Hero called Guitar Hero III: Backstage Pass. The mobile game adds new features to the Guitar Hero we are familiar with by letting players not only play gigs with the familiar interface.

Players can also promote the band, do interviews, rehearse songs, create demo tapes and more. In game money earned can be used for buying new guitars and once career goals are achieved players can get new stuff. Pricing varies and I am sure the game won’t work with all handsets. Read more

Full Size Wood Guitar Controller for PS3 and PS2 from Peak Products

Music based games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are among some of the hottest titles right now. The problem is that the plastic guitars that ship with the games tend to not hold up well. My Rock Band Guitar stopped working correctly a few months after I bought the game.

Activision today announced Guitar Hero: On Tour has sold in excess of 300,000 units in North America in the first seven days since its launch, making it the largest North American launch for the Nintendo DS in the company’s history by more than a factor of eight.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Now Available

Fans of Guitar Hero and the band Aerosmith can now buy Guitar Hero: Aerosmith in stores across the country. The game only features tracks from Aerosmith’s massive library of hits. Some of the tracks were re-mastered by Aerosmith just for the game.

One of the guest appearances in the game is from Darryl “DMC” McDaniels from rap group Run DMC. Aerosmith and Run DMC teamed up for a remake of “Walk this Way” in the 1980’s, helping to rebuild Aerosmith’s popularity when rap was just starting to take off. Read more

Aerosmith is Set to Launch Guitar Hero: Aerosmith in Times Square Friday

Activision announced that Aerosmith will be on hand to launch the new Guitar Hero: Aerosmith video game this Friday in Times Square in NYC. All members of the band will be on hand for the unveil and fans are invited.

A press conference will be held and after the launch in Times Square the Hard Rock Café will be turned into a Best Buy home theater/video game lounge. In the lounge gamers will be the first to play the new game before it goes on sale on June 29th. Read more

Girl Gamers Get Guitar Controllers from Aly & AJ

Despite the fact that I have never heard of Aly & AJ it seems they are a popular pop group with tweens. The group and PDP, a maker of video game controllers for all consoles, have teamed up to offer girl gamers a pair of guitar controllers.

The guitar controllers are for use with Guitar Hero and will be available starting in September. At this time there isn’t even a picture of the controllers, but they are said to be boldly colored and have vibrant designs. Each of the guitars is wireless and will retail for $69.99. Read more

Coldplay to Debut New Single on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

The multi-platinum rock band Coldplay is releasing a new single as part of a downloadable song pack for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The song pack will include “Violet Hill” from the Viva la Vida album set for release on June 17th.

The pack also includes the hit tune “Yellow” and the track “God Put a Smile Upon Your Face”. The track pack will be available on June 19th on the Xbox via the Xbox Live Marketplace and the Playstation Store for PS3. Read more
