Guitar Hero 5 Multi-Platform Review

Guitar Hero 5 is shipping and the guys over at Tweaktown tested the music game, which is available on all three majore consoles (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3).

Logitech's New Wii/360/PS3 Drums/Guitar Expensive, Fancy

Do you hate your bank account and love Guitar Hero? If so, Logitech is here to help. They've just released a new set of high-end Guitar Hero instruments for the Nintendo Wii. According to Gizmodo their new guitar has a maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and metal frets. The new drums are absolutely gorgeous; they come with three pads and two cymbals, all fully adjustable, with a recessed rim around the pads to help avoid rim shots. The kick petal is made of stainless steel.

Sounds pretty great, doesn't it? And, to make things even better, the exact same instruments are already out for the PS3 and Xbox 360. What's the catch? The Price. Logitech is charging $200 for the guitar, and $230 for the drums. That's more than excessive, but if you absolutely must have the best these instruments are it.

Logitech Unveils Wireless Drum Kit for PS3 Guitar Hero

Logitech has unveiled its newest Guitar Hero accessory, the Wireless Drum controller. The drum kit sells for $229.99 and will be available this month. The kit is for Guitar Hero only; I wish they supported rock Band too. The drum controller has drumheads and cymbals that are adjustable to suit the player's style.

Drumheads are very quiet making for less noise during game play. The bass pedal has a stainless steel surface and adjustable spring. Logitech promises that the drum kit lasts 50 hours on two AA batteries. Read more

Mad Catz Releases Fender for Rock Band, More Guitars to Come

Good news, Rock Band fans, the much anticipated (and repeatedly delayed) Fender Precision Bass guitar for Rock Band is going to ship later this month. This announcement means that the new Fender will be coming out a couple of months ahead of the new Beatles inspired guitars scheduled to be released in September of this year.

Bringing the Fender out now is definitely a good business move on Mad Catz's part. It'll be out early enough that it should have a few weeks to make some serious sales before any new competing guitars hit the market.

Guitar Hero 5 Coming this Fall

Activision just announced that Guitar Hero 5 will be coming to the Xbox, PlayStation 3, and Wii in Fall of 2009. There will also be a version for the PS2, developed by Budcat. This new Guitar Hero has some bangin' new features that separate it from the herd, including the awesome new ability to customize what instruments play in your rock band. Personally, I'm looking forward to doing a four-microphone choir version of Tom Sawyer.

Guitar Hero 5 will also have new gaming modes, including Party Play and RockFest. Activision says they want fans to be able to "tailor the Guitar Hero experience to match their personal style and interests." Which probably means that we'll have a lot more control over how the game measures our success this time around.

Logitech Launches Black Edition Guitar Controller

Back at CES 2009, I saw the new red Logitech Guitar controller and it was sweet. The controller was not that easy to find in stores and I was never able to get my hands on one. Logitech has now announced a new black edition Guitar controller that is specific to the Guitar Hero game.

The wireless controller is compatible with the PS3 and PS2 game consoles and has a wood neck and body. The fingerboard is made from rosewood and it has metal frets. Unlike the original red guitar that was only offered in select markets, the black edition will be available globally. Read more

You Rock Guitar to be Unveiled at E3

Music games are huge right now with the announcement this week of special The Beatles guitar controllers for Rock Band. A new guitar controller called the You Rock Guitar is set to debut at E3 running from June 2 to June 4 2009.

The guitar has a design that eliminates the need to tune or restring a guitar and can connect to an amplifier for jam sessions or headphones for private play. The guitar will also plug into an iPod, cell phone, or stereo receiver. Read more

Rock Band Gets Beatle's Guitars.

Rock Band fanatics, it's okay if you start drooling. Harmonix Music Systems, who has made all of the Rock Band instruments, announced today that it will be bringing out two new guitars for MTV Games' upcoming The Beatles: Rock Band. The pre-order club for The Beatles is also live as of today, although the game doesn't go on sale until 9/9/09.

The two new guitars are going to be based off of the signature instruments of John Lennon and George Harrison. Both the Rickenbacker 325 and the Gretsch Duo Get will be out in stores along with the latest version of Rock Band. They will retail for $99.99, along with the Hofner bass controller and Ludwig-brand drums that MTV Games announced earlier.

New Guitar Hero Spot Features College Basketball Coaches

Activision has announced a new commercial for its Guitar Hero franchise to help promote the newest version of the game, Guitar Hero Metallica, which is set to launch soon. The new TV commercial features four of the most successful college basketball coaches around.

Coaches Bob Knight, Coach K, Rick Pitino, and Roy Williams are all in the commercial in a four-member band featuring a Risky Business inspired theme. The four coaches are playing the Bob Seger track "Old Time Rock and Roll." Read more

Backstage with Guitar Hero Debuts on PlayStation Home

Activision has announced that Guitar Hero Backstage has now launched on PlayStation Home. The launch adds a virtual destination on PlayStation Home where fans of the franchise can meet up and chat.

Activision says that users of the virtual backstage area can talk about the game, meet new friends, and maybe even find new bands to challenge. The virtual space offers the backstage area and a huge concert venue. Read more

Guitar Hero Metallic Demo on Xbox Live

The next version of the hugely popular Guitar Hero franchise is Guitar Hero Metallica that offers up a myriad of Metallica tracks along with tunes from other popular rock bands. The demo for the new title is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace.

The demo lets players play the guitar, drums, and sing to Metallica's Sad But True and Seek and Destroy. Two other tracks featured on the demo include No Excuses from Alice in Chains and Stone Cold Crazy from Queen. Read more

Band Rise Against to Create Song for Guitar Hero World Tour

Rock band Rise Against and Activision have announced that the band will create and debut a new song exclusively for Guitar Hero World Tour. The single is called Death Blossoms and two of the bands other hit tracks will debut for the game as well.

The band has a complete track pack available for the game including tracks "Audience of One" and "Ready to Fall." Players can join the band on the Rock Band digital stage for performances of hits from the band. Read more

Guitar Hero World Tour Hits Android Phones

Hands-on Mobile has announced that Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile is now available for handsets on the Android platform. That really means right now that the game is available for the T-Mobile G1. According to Activision, the game has been downloaded 500,000 times on all platforms since it launched last November.

The Android version of the game promises improved graphics and features like the use of the accelerometer to activate star power. All songs used in the game are in MP3 format and automatically saved to the SD card inserted into the handset. Read more

Teen Sets New Guitar Hero World Record

A new world record holder for Guitar Hero for the highest score on a single song for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock has been set. A Texas teen has scored 973,954 points on Expert level with 99% completion on the song Through the Fire and Flames by Dragon Force.

The 14-year-old boy is from Grapevine, Texas and has reportedly traded the record with Chris Chike for the last year. Anyone who is not familiar with this game and this track may not understand how difficult it is. Read more

Guitar Hero Metallica Track List Announced

The guitar Hero franchise is very popular and new titles in the franchise are being introduced frequently. One of the best selling games last holiday season was Guitar Hero World Tour. Guitar Hero also has games specific to a certain band, the first of these was Guitar Hero Aerosmith.

Activision has announced the track list for Guitar Hero Metallica, it includes 45 tracks form Metallica, and 21 tracks for different bands. Tracks form each studio album that Metallica produced are included with popular tracks like The Unforgiving, Sad But True, and Wherever I May Roam among them. Read more

Games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band were among the best sellers in 2008. The popularity of these games has resulted in lots of aftermarket controllers and accessories hitting the market. The latest guitar controller to debut comes from DreamGEAR and is called the WarBeast.

New DLC Coming for Guitar Hero World Tour

Activision has announced that new download tracks will be coming to Guitar Hero World Tour in January. GHWT already had one of the strongest set lists among any of the music game genre from its initial launch and the new DLC content will add even more to the game.

New rock tracks are coming on December 23rd including Hinder's "Use Me", Nickelback's "Because of You" and Rev Theory's "Light it Up." Gamers who wish that the set list of most music games had something other than rock tracks; a new country music pack is coming too. Read more

Guitar Hero World Tour Gets Euro Band Tracks

Activision has announced that Guitar Hero World Tour has added new downloadable songs from some of Europe's most popular groups just in time for the holidays. New tracks include "'54, '74, '90, 2010" from the German rock band Sportfreunde Stiller. This track is part of a three-track pack including other songs by BB Brunes from France and Fito Y Fitipaldis from Spain.

Swedish rock band Backyard Babies are offering up a new track for a second track pack called "Degenerated" from their 2008 album. Also included in the three-track pack is the Fito Y Fitipaldis with "Por La Boca Vive El Pez" and Netherlands' beloved Di-Rect with "Johnny." Read more
