Toshiba and HD DVD Camp cry Foul over Warner's Move to Blu-ray

Looks like the decision of Warner Bros to back Blu-ray exclusively came as a big surprise to Toshiba and the HD DVD Promotional Group on Friday. Both issued a press-release late that day responding to the decision.

Toshiba is quite surprised by Warner Bros.' decision to abandon HD DVD in favor of Blu-ray, despite the fact that there are various contracts in place between our companies concerning the support of HD DVD. Read more

Amazon is pushing HD DVD again hard. Right now they are offering the 'buy one HD DVD and receive a second for free' promotion again as well as 30% off new HD DVDs.

Venturer Makes Low cost HD DVD Player More Appealing

Home theater fans in the UK will have something to be happy about this holiday season with Venturer making its low cost SHD1000 HD DVD player even more attractive. The player is already packaged with a free HDMI cable and the HD DVD films Troy and Hulk.

The player will now include a voucher that allows customers to get five more HD DVD movies free via the European HD DVD Promotional Group. The deal sounds very much like what Toshiba does here in America. The Venturer player will be available exclusively through QVC in the UK starting on December 29th at an undisclosed price. Read more

Samsung Says BD-UP5000 BD HD DVD Hybrid Still on Track

We have talked about the Samsung BD-UP5000 dual format HD DVD and Blu-ray player here on I4U before. Recently rumors and reports have been coming in that the player would not be available as originally expected in mid December.

Samsung has told Dealerscope that the player is on track to reach market in mid-December. Dealerscope says the representative for Samsung added that the player is shipping as we speak and you will see it at retailers later this month. Read more

Recently Wal-Mart and Best Buy offered the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player at huge bargain prices and buyers were still allowed to get the five free HD DVD movies by mail.

Wal-Mart Offers Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD Player for Under $100 Tomorrow Only

Get your sleep in now HD fans because if you want any chance of getting your hands on one of the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD players Wal-Mart is offering on sale tomorrow for $98.87, you had better get there early. In fact, you might want to go now.

I am betting Nintendo Wii style lines will be formed for the sale that begins at 8AM way before that time. The MSRP on the HD-A2 is $299.99, so this is likely to be the best deal you will find on a HD DVD player this holiday season. The cheapest Blu-ray player I am currently aware of is the new 40Gb PS3, which comes bundled with Spider-Man 3. Read more

Toshiba Launches Qosmio G45 & F45, Satellite X205, P205 & A205 HD DVD Laptops

Today Toshiba launched a complete line of HD DVD equipped computers at different price points starting as low as $1149. The five new HD DVD notebooks include the Qosmio G45, Qosmio F45, Satellite X205, Satellite P205 and the Satellite A205.

Toshiba is also offering five free HD DVD movies from a list of 15 titles via a mail in rebate to anyone who buys one of the five notebooks. Titles are selected from five categories and one selection is made from each, much like the stand-alone HD DVD player promotion. Read more

Toshiba Ships first U.S. Notebook with HD DVD-R Drive

Toshiba announced today that their Qosmio G45-AV680 notebook is the first shipping notebook in the U.S. With an HD DVD-R burner included. The notebook also has Dolby surround sound technology and full 1080p playback.

The HD DVD-R discs can hold up to 30GB of data and the burner can play HD DVD movies as well. The computer has a glossy white finish that looks like it will get dirty and scratch quickly. The power buttons and some controls are silver, nice looking machine for sure. Read more
