Features of HDMI Version 1.4 Unveiled
HDMI Licensing has announced some of the features of HDMI v 1.4. The specification is set to be available for download no later than June 30, 2009. It seems like HDMI 1.3 just hit the market, but HDMI 1.4 will add a slew of features that HDMI 1.3 is lacking. The 1.4 spec has an HDMI Ethernet channel allowing devices to send and receive data at 100Mbps.
The new spec also has an audio return channel to reduce the number of cables needed during an install. 3D over HDMI will be supported for 3D viewing with dual-stream 1080p resolution. The new spec also supports significantly higher resolutions than current HDMI will handle of up to 4096 x 2160 at 24Hz. Read more

Xbox 360 Dashboard Update coming for HDMI Issue
If you are an Xbox 360 owner that was sending audio out over HDMI and found after the XBE update was applied your audio was gone, your fix is coming Tuesday 2am Pacific. The update will fix the audio issue over HDMI.
Exactly what other changes if any the update will fix or add is unknown. It appears that this may be a fix for the audio issue only. Read more

Gefen Offers Three new Wireless HDMI Extenders
If you need to get an HD signal from a component like a Blu-ray player or cable box to a HDTV that is a long way from your components you may think the only option is a really long HDMI cable ran around the room or through the attic. Gefen has three new products that will allow you to send the HDMI signal to your TV wirelessly.
Among the products is the Wireless for HDMI UWB Extender, which can send full 1080p video with digital surround and two-channel analog audio up to 10 meters in distance. The system has two HDMI inputs and analog audio output that auto switches sources for up to three devices. Read more

New Eee Box B204 and B206 have HDMI
The Asus Eee Box tiny PC just got more attractive as new models add an HDMI port. The New Eee Box B204 and B206 feature HDMI to connect directly to HDTVs. Asus bundles Eee Cinema, a full-featured media player that enables users to play high definition videos.
Asus also added a remote control to the B204 and B206 to make them convenient for HTPC.
The new Eee Boxes are equipped with a discrete graphics card that features a high definition hardware video decoder, vastly improving the quality of video and freeing the Eee Box’s processor to tackle other tasks.

GefenTV Adds Two HDMI Switchers to Line
Gefen added two new solutions to its line for home theater fans that have more HDMI sources than they have inputs on their TV or projector. Both new devices allow multiple HDMI devices to use one HDMI input on the TV at resolutions up to 1080p.
The two products include the GefenTV multi Format Switcher with a MSRP of $499. The switcher supports different video formats and converts standard and HD inputs into HDMI format. Inputs include component, composite, s-video, and HDMI all with supplemental audio inputs. A remote is included as well. Read more

1080p HDMI Digital Photo Viewer Launches
A few years ago, looking at family photos meant pulling out old and dusty photo albums and thumbing through photos developed at a lab. After that we went digital and we check our images out on a PC or a digital photo frame. The next step according to PIE United is to view our family photos on a big screen HDTV.
PIE has announced the HD-0310 photo viewer that allows images to be viewed on a big screen TV at full 1080p resolution. In addition to photos, the device allows viewing of video and music playback. The device supports common memory card formats and USB devices. Music in MP3 format can be played and memory card formats including SD, SDHC, MS, and CF are supported. Read more

Gefen Technology Cuts HDMI Cables with UWB
Gefen has announced a new wireless HDMI extender that uses UWB technology from Tzero Technologies. The no cable extender delivers wired quality HDMI from Blu-ray and other HDMI sources to the TV or projector.
The extender features built-in interference elimination technology for optimal picture quality. The device can stream full 1080p with 5.1 surround sound up to 10 meters across a room. The extender offers dual HDMI ports, component video, and analog audio. Pricing and availability are unknown at this time. Read more

MAdCatz Xbox 360 HDMI Adapter
Xbox 360 owners who purchased their console systems before Microsoft began updating them all with HDMI ports need not buy a new system to get HDMI support thanks to MadCatz. MadCatz has announced a new HDMI convertor for all Xbox 360 models.

Pulse~LINK Inc announced that it has reference designs for its CWave HDMI-Over-coax and Wireless HDMI production ready. These solutions will allow home theater fans to send HD signals throughout the home with no required wires.

Tributaries HDMI over CAT 5 HXC5
Home theater buffs who have complex installations in large rooms know that finding very long HDMI cables and running the HDMI cables over long distances gets hard and the cable can be very expensive. The new HXC5 from Tributaries can send a virtually lossless HDMI signal over CAT5 cable up to 50 meters or about 164 feet.
The system required a double run of CAT5, CAT5E, or CAT6 cable. The HXC5 does the rest of the work utilizing a balanced/unbalanced signal-processing unit with full HD signal integrity. The device supports resolutions up to 1080p and is HDMI 1.2 and HDCP compliant as well. Read more
