Vizo Voyager Dual Fan 3.5” Hard Drive (HD) Cooler Review
TechwareLabs reviews the Vizo Voyager Dual Fan 3.5” Hard Drive (HD) Cooler.
Quote from the review:
"
Vizo recently sent us the Voyager dual fan 3.5" hard drive (HD) cooler for review. Vizo, based in Taiwan is a manufacturer of computer peripherals with unique designs and has many products focused on the DIY crowd. The Voyager as mentioned earlier is a hard drive cooler. Of the many ways to cool your hard drive the most is to increase the air flow through the case and over the hard drive in particular. Heat is the number 1 killer of hard drives and our philosophy is to spend a few dollars now and save the cost of replacing your drive and data later.

Western Digital Launches New Line of AV Hard Drives
Today Western Digital (WD) announced a new line of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) for the audio and video markets. AV use is one of the fastest growing sectors of hard drive use. This makes sense if you consider how many people are currently using DVR and Tivo devices that rely on HDD internally to store video.
The new WD line was built around durability more than size increases or even new speeds. In addition to being built for optimal durability the new drives are also made to be quiet and cool as well. Anyone who has used a DVR inside a closed entertainment center can tell you how much heat they put out. One of my biggest issues with my SuddenLink DVR is the noise the HDD makes as it seeks and writes data. It is quite bothersome during quiet movie moments or when you are trying to sleep or read and the DVR is recording. Read more

Get Those Eyes A-Poppin' -- Terabyte Hard Drive Coming Soon?
Although there are various storage devices that can hold up to one terabyte of data, we've yet to see them be packaged in the same way as a normal, lightweight hard drive that can be easily installed onto Joe Schmo's computer. However, Hitachi is now saying that this kind of hard drive could be coming soon...by the end of the year, in fact.
Hitachi says they want it to be a product that people will be able to use for personal and home networking needs. May I just say, out of redundancy, that that is a lot of space. It's a thousand gigabytes (though I prefer to see it as a million megabytes).

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB Hard Drive Review
The Tech Report published a detailed review of the new Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 with perpendicular recording technology. Seagate introduced the 750GB 7200.10 in April.
Quote:
"Perpendicular recording does wonders for storage capacity, and thanks to denser platters, it can also improve drive performance. Couple those benefits with support for 300 MB/s Serial ATA transfer rates, Native Command Queuing, and up to 16 MB of cache, and the Barracuda 7200.10 starts to look pretty appealing. Throw in an industry-leading five year warranty and a cost per gigabyte that's competitive with 500 GB drives, and you may quickly find yourself scrambling to justify a need for 750 GB of storage capacity.
Is Seagate's Barracuda 7200.10 as good as it sounds? And what's the deal with perpendicular recording technology, anyway?
"
