Another Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 1TB HDD Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Tech Report published a review of the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 hard-disc. Shop for the 1TB HDD here

Quote from the HDD review: "Being first to the terabyte mark gives Hitachi bragging rights, and more importantly, the ability to offer single-drive storage capacity 33% greater than that of its competitors. Hitachi isn't banking on capacity alone, though. The 7K1000 is also outfitted with a whopping 32MB of cache—double what you get with other 3.5" hard drives. Couple that extra cache with 200GB platters that have the highest areal density of any drive on the market, and the 7K1000's performance could impress as much as its capacity. Read more

Blank HD-DVDs Announced By Hitachi and Mitsubishi Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review I don't have the best memory in the world, but I remember thinking that commercially available blank DVDs came out at least a year after the launch of the first DVD player (which seems like millenia ago now). Apparently Hitachi and Mitsubishi don't want such a long delay in the world of HD DVD.

Even though no stand-alone HD DVD recorder hardware has been officially announced yet, the two Japanese companies have announced that they will be releasing HD DVD-R and HD DVD-R DL discs later this year, though obviously we can expect HD DVD recorders probably within the next few months.
