Free WiFi For the Holidays

You know what readers? You've all been really, really good this year. So good, that I think you've earned an early treat. Just this once, I'm going to let you all open a Christmas gift early. No, you can't open the one from Aunt Shirley yet. Here, try this one. It's from Google, and it's small but it doesn't feel like socks.

Oh man! It's free Wi-Fi in 47 separate airports from now until January 15, 2009. This'll go great with the free WiFi they're also giving out to all Virgin Airlines passengers this holiday season. This is definitely a very clever bit of image marketing on Google's part, but that doesn't mean I'll be any less grateful for it. I just got back from a two week trip to Europe, and I spent a good sixty hours of it in airports. Free WiFi at any of them would have been a very welcome blessing.

No More New Apple Products For the Holidays?

It is October and there is still time to unveil new products for the Holidays. Nintendo for instance will still unveil a Black Wii this Holidays also in the United States. I cannot believe that Europe and Asia get a black Wii and not the United States. I am getting side tracked, back to the topic. Apple is apparently done with new product announcements for the holidays. Gizmodo reports that Phil Schiller said "The holiday lineup is set."

Mystery Apple Product For The Holidays Rumor Takes Flight

The Apple Earnings call yesterday had more than just impressive profit numbers that took the Apple stock above $200 in after hours trading. 9to5Mac points our attention to Apple's planned abnormally rising air freight costs for the coming quarter.
Apple's executives did not say what new product they plan to ship in high volume this holidays. They said that it has nothing to do with the iPhone though. Read more

Top 25 DVD And Blu-ray Releases For The Holidays

Hollywood is getting ready to launch the biggest blockbuster movies and TV series of the year on DVD and Blu-ray for the Fall and Holiday season.
The editors at Amazon did a great job picking the top 25 movie and TV releases that are coming up in the next month leading up to the Holiday shopping season (September 1st and November 30th).

Their top pick is the animated movie Up, which is going to be released November 10th. Read more

Is Nintendo Dropping the Wii Price For The Holidays?

Now that the dust has settled after the Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 price cuts, all eyes are on Nintendo. Will Nintendo see the need to adjust the pricing of the Wii console?
If you look at what you get, the balance is pretty much off between the PS3 Slim and the Wii console. The price difference of $50 gets you HD, Blu-ray player, 3D online community, movie streaming and CELL CPU power.

The Wii's game play will remain unique until sometime in 2010 when Microsoft will release Natal and Sony releases their motion controller. Read more

Windows 7 coming in Time for Holidays says Microsoft

Microsoft for the first time gave a time frame for the Windows 7 release.
According to Reuters Bill Veghte, Senior VP of Microsoft's Windows Business said that "Windows 7 is tracking well for holiday availability."
As reported the Windows 7 RC 1 has been available since last week and things already look rather stable. Read more

Sony Announces SingStar ABBA for the Holidays

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced a new PS3 and PS2 game for the holiday season in the SingStar franchise. The title is called SingStar ABBA. SCEA says the game was developed in conjunction with ABBA and gives the groups most popular tracks to fans for Karaoke style fun.

The game integrates with the Playstation Eye to allow players to capture their best performances, and the miserable failures of their friends for making fun of them. Consumers Expect to Spend as Much or More than Usual on the Holidays

According to ABI Research consumers plan to spend as much if not more this holiday season than they have in years past despite the poor economy. ABI conducted a survey of 1,600 households and found that not all consumers are cutting back in the face of a poor economy.

Some survey respondents even plan to spend more this holiday season. The study showed that 47% of respondents plan to decrease spending this holiday season, but 40% plan to spend about the same as they usually do and 13% plan to spend more this year. Read more
