Dodge Ram HEMI Hybrid drain joins the Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango in the Chrysler hybrid vehicle lineup. The HEMI Hybrid is supposed to be available in 2010. Read more

AFS Trinity 150MPG Extreme Hybrid SUV

The Detroit Auto Show 2008 (NAIAS 2008) promises to be a big show case of green car technology. Delaware based AFS Trinity surprises with the introduction of the XH-150, a 150 MPG plug-in hybrid SUV prototype.

The key to extreme hybrid cars is the Fast Energy Storage developed by AFS Trinity. AFS Trinity equipped an off the shelf SUV with their Extreme Hybrid drive train and in road tests achieved 150 miles per gallon of gasoline based on the EPA Combined Urban/Highway Driving Cycle with 6 days per week of 40 miles per day in all electric mode and one day at 100 miles with assistance of the gas engine. Samsung Says BD-UP5000 BD HD DVD Hybrid Still on Track

We have talked about the Samsung BD-UP5000 dual format HD DVD and Blu-ray player here on I4U before. Recently rumors and reports have been coming in that the player would not be available as originally expected in mid December.

Samsung has told Dealerscope that the player is on track to reach market in mid-December. Dealerscope says the representative for Samsung added that the player is shipping as we speak and you will see it at retailers later this month. Read more

Formula One to use Hybrid Cars by 2010

German car magazine Auto, Motor and Sports reports that Formula One Racing will use hybrid cars by 2010.

Apparently FIA boss Max Mosley came to an agreement with the car makers to go green by 2010.
It would be a great idea. I already hate that they can refuel during the race. A simple rule change to have them make race cars that go the full distance on one tank would also bring lots of innovation for fuel efficient engines. Read more

IAA 2007: Citroen C-Cactus Diesel Hybrid Concept Car

Citroen will show a hybrid car concept dubbed C-Cactus at the IAA 2007.

The Citroen C-Cactus is powered by a 70hp HDi Diesel engine and a 30hp electric engine.
The cute car would only need 3.4 l/100km (~69MPG) and the CO2 emissions would be only 78g/km.

Citroen managed to build the C-Cactus from only 200 parts. Comparable models need twice as much usually. Read more

Porsche Cayenne Hybrid at IAA 2007

Porsche will apparently exhibit their current Porsche Cayenne Hybrid prototype at the IAA 2007 in Frankfurt next month.

Porsche announced that they were working on a Hybrid Cayenne back at the IFA 2005. Porsche uses a parallel concept for their hybrid drive. Currently they use a V6 engine that works seamlessly with an electric engine powered by a block of batteries.

The fuel efficiency of the Porsche Cayenne with Hybrid drive is currently 24 miles per gallon (9,8l/100km). The final version of the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid is supposed to be more efficient. Read more

2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid Test Drive

The Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is supposed to improve your city mileage by 40%. If you know the Tahoe, you know how big that thing is. It is a just a bit hypocrite to add electric engines to the existing V8 engine. On the other hand it is better than nothing – American mom’s just love their SUVs.

Chevrolet's two-mode hybrid system developed by BMW adds 400 pounds that the GM engineers had to loose again somewhere else in the Tahoe. Read more

Samsung to Ship Hybrid Hard Drives Next Week

Samsung's first hybrid hard drives will be available for end-user purchase in a week's time reports PC Magazine.

The Samsung 160GB SATA 2.5-inch MH80 notebook drive showed up on a retailer for $299.

The new hybrid drives contain 256MB of flash memory, which is used as a write cache as part of Microsoft's ReadyDrive functionality in Windows Vista. Read more

Samsung R55 Lappy Launched with Hybrid Hard Drive

Samsung has launched their new R55 notebook computer that sports their new hybrid HDD technology to speed data access. With an MSRP of a bit over $1900 it is certainly not cheap. Other features include a 15.4” WXGA LCD, 80GB Hybrid HDD at 5400 RPM with 256Mb OneNAND Flash, NVIDIA GeForce 7400 graphics, Vista Premium and a super multi DL optical drive.

Samsung claims that the hybrid HDD can increase data read performance by as much as 26%, 71% on data write speed and 32% lower power consumption when used with small data chucks of up to 10MB. Read more
