IFA 2006: Mitsubishi HC5000 1080p LCD Projector

Topic:

IFA 2006: Mitsubishi HC5000 1080p LCD Projector Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Mitsubishi shows the HC5000 full HD (1,920x1,080px) LCD projector at the IFA 2006 and says the HC5000 will sell for 4,000 Euro (~$5,133).

This is I think the way to go 1080p for me. The prices for large full HD Plasma TVs or LCD TVs will stay high for a while. In the meantime full HD home cinema projectors become affordable. The projection image size also benefits more from the higher resolution.
The Mitsubishi HC5000 features a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, a brightness of 1,000 lumens, 19dBA (Lamp low mode) and a 50” - 300" image size. Read more

IFA 2006 Show Opens Today in Berlin without Sony

Topic:

IFA 2006 Show Opens Today in Berlin without Sony Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The IFA 2006 opens today in Berlin to the public. This is the first time that the show is in its new yearly schedule. Apparently this change kept some companies away from this years show. Most prominent 'no-show' is Sony (via Heise German).

I do not have high hopes on interesting new announcements from consumer electronics companies for this year's IFA. Reading the press here in Germany the most pushed new thing is full HDTV (1,920x1,080px) flat screen TVs. Also every TV news station in Germany is touts that you need full HD to really leverage Blu-ray or HD DVD. Talk is just not enough. Offer me a quality 50 inch Plasma or LCD with full HD at $3,000-$4,000 and I take it. Until then normal HD HDTV will have to suffice.
There is also lots of discussion out there if you really need full HD right now. For me it is a price question. Take the Panasonic TH-50PX60U which sells for $2,549.99 on Amazon.com right now. This baby has an awesome image quality and sports the new G9 panel with 10,000:1 contrast ratio. For this price you will not see 50 inch full HD HDTV for still quite a while. Read more

New Yamaha YSP-1100 and YSP-900 at the IFA 2006

Topic:

New Yamaha YSP-1100 and YSP-900 at the IFA 2006 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Yamaha will introduce the new surround sound projectors YSP-1100 and YSP-900 at the IFA 2006 next month.

The Yamaha YSP-1100 replaces the currently available YSP-1000. The YSP-900 is the follow-up model to the YSP-800.
I own a YSP-1000 and published a review of it a while back. The Yamaha Sound projector technology is great and saves a lot of hassle with placing and cabling individual surround boxes.

Not much is known yet about the new Yamaha Sound projectors. In an overview report on TWICE about upcoming Yamaha products the new YSP-1100 and YSP-900 are mentioned.
The Yamaha YSP-1100 is supposed to sell for $1,699 featuring a larger sweet spot, RS-232 port, and IR in/out. Read more
