IREX DR800SG E-Reader Is Official

Topic:

IREX DR800SG E-Reader Is Official Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

IREX Technologies today officially announced the impending launch of their new DR800SG e-reader, which will be available exclusively in Best Buy this October. We reported about this new eReader contender earlier today. With this reader, Irex says that users will be able to wirelessly purchase newspapers, magazines, and books from Barnes & Noble's online store.

The DR800SG has an 8.1" e-ink display with 3G enabled. Its design seems very stripped down and sparse, but I think I've been spoiled by the Microsoft and Asus e-reader rumors. The cool thing about Irex readers is that you can transfer content downloaded onto your DR800SG over to any other device that you please.

Quote from the review: "I hate to admit it but I haven't been in the AMD game for a long time. The last AMD I owned was a Barton 2500. Don't get me wrong, this isn't going to be an Intel Fanboy writing an AMD motherboard review. I've been a long time fan of AMD dating back to the K5 series. But the truth is outside of some exceptional video cards, AMD hasn't given us a whole lot to get excited about lately. Read more

The iRex electronic paper display combines wireless networking and touch screen technologies. The 8.1 inch display display features 16 grey levels.
The iRex Iliad ePaper is supposed to be available in April 2006.
What happened to the Philips Readius, which was shown at the IFA 2005? An ePaper reader that is not flexible to be rolled up is kind of outdated. Sony has one of those on the market since 2004 (Sony Librie). Ok, the iRex iliad lets users apparently capture user input. Is this than a just a huge PDA? Anyway lets have a closer look when it actually is in stores. Read more
