NVIDIA Launches Interactive Ray Tracing Engine
NVIDIA has announced that it has launched the world's first interactive ray tracing engine. The new engine will join the NVIDIA line of application acceleration engines. The application acceleration engines were unveiled at SIGGRAPH 2009 and include the NVIDIA OptiX ray tracing engine, SceniX engine, CompleX engine, and PhysX engine.
The new OptiX ray tracing engine is a programmable ray tracing pipeline that promises to allow software developers to bring new realism to applications using the C programming language. The engine uses the massively parallel power of NVIDIA Quadro processors. Read more

SMART ID422w Widescreen Interactive Pen display Debuts
SMART Technologies has announced a new interactive pen display called the SMART Podium ID422w. The display has a 40% larger screen for more workspace than other SMART interactive display options and is the company's first widescreen pen display.
The display has a 16:9 aspect ratio and has a resolution compatible with laptop or desktop monitors. The stand of the display is adjustable for comfortable writing angles. Notes can be saved and emailed directly from the display. Read more

Interactive Portal T-Shirts simulate Teleportation
ThinkGeek offers a cool new T-shirt inspired by the game Portal.
The interactive Portal T-Shirts use two wireless 5.8 GHz video cameras mounted in the front of each shirt along with two high-res LCD TFT screens.
The camera in the orange shirt transmits the image to the blue shirt, and vise versa. In this manner it seems as if a fully functional portal has been created between the chests of both subjects.

Disney Interactive Announces Split/Second
Not so long ago if I saw a new announcement for a video game from Disney Interactive I would have overlooked it as a game designed for kids or tweens based on some singing high school class. After Pure debuted and offered some of the best visuals on the PS3, I started to pay attention.
Disney Interactive has announced a new video game that is in the works for a 2010 release called Split/Second. The game is a racing title that puts players inside a vehicle competing on a reality TV show. Players race around a city that is destructible and built specifically for the TV show. Read more

Luminvision Limited Interactive Projection
Luminvision Limited announced that it has updated it ADVIS Interactive Projection System that allows ordinary projectors and computers to display a virtual interactive wall, floor, or other surface. The projection is offered as an interactive advertising medium.
The library of over 100 interactive effects is available and each is configurable to the campaign. Luminvision supplies the software and hardware needed for the system to function. I saw something similar to this at CES in January. It's really cool, the one I saw had fish swimming in a shallow pool. When you stepped on the projection, the fish would swim away and the water would realistically ripple from where you were standing. Read more

Take-Two Interactive Responds to Electronic Arts Fourth Tender Offer
Take-Two responded today to EA’s fourth unsolicited offer to buy the gaming company. According to Take-Two only 7.9% of all of its outstanding shares were tendered to EA for its fourth purchase offer as of 5pm Eastern Time on June 16, 2008.
Take-Two says that by such a small portion of its investors offering their stock to EA’s fourth proposal that it shows the investors agree with the Take-Two board that EA’s offer still undervalues the company. Read more

EA & FIFA Sponsor FIFA Interactive World Cup 2008
EA and FIFA are looking for the best virtual soccer player in America with an Interactive World Cup game. The live qualifying event will be held on March 1st in LA. EA says that up to 50 competitors can pre-register for the event and the remaining 78 spots will be filled first come first serve.
The tournament will be held at a GameStop in Universal City, CA. "The FIFA Interactive World Cup is where true world champions are crowned," said Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho. "I am sure the competitors will feel the same excitement as we players do when entering the field at a FIFA World Cup. EA offers to buy Take-Two Interactive for $2 Billion
Electronic Arts Inc. today announced that it has offered to acquire Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. in an all-cash merger valued at approximately $2.0 billion.
EA's proposal of $26 per share in cash represents a premium of 64 percent over Take-Two's closing stock price on Feb. 15th, the last trading day before EA sent its revised proposal to Take-Two, and a 63 percent premium over Take-Two's 30-day trailing average price over the thirty trading days ending on that date.

The hack involves connecting via the serial interface of the iPhone and sending some commands to gain shell access on the OS X variant of the iPhone.

Samsung Interactive Digital Cable Ready (iDCR) DLP HDTV and HD Set-top Box
Samsung, Time Warner Cable and Advance/Newhouse Communications announce that interactive digital cable services are now live on the Samsung HL-S5686C Open Cable Application Platform (OCAP) compliant DLP HDTV and SMT-H3050 High Definition Set-top Boxes.
The new interactive cable service is currently available in NYC and is supposed to be soon coming to Milwaukee (=beer city).
Time Warner Cable's new interactive cable service includes its OCAP Digital Navigator and its in-house developed Interactive Program Guide. In 2007, Time Warner Cable and Advance/Newhouse Communications will continue to rollout OCAP on Samsung OpenCable products in other divisions of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks.

Logitech Z-10 Interactive Speaker Review
Logitech is starting to bring to market several different peripherals that have touch sensitive controls, like the diNovo Edge and the Z-10 Speakers. The Z-10 connects via USB to your computer so they will work for laptops and desktop systems without the need for a sound card.
The LCD screen on the front of the Z-10 speakers gives you song track info and track playtime. It seems from the review at Everything USB that the speakers lack the deep base that is so crucial in gaming and movie watching, but overall they were well liked. Read more

CBS Evening News To Go Interactive With Couric
Unless you've been living under a brick, you know that Katie Couric has left her famous position at NBC's morning Today show to host rival network CBS's Evening News program, beginning on September 5. They're clearly trying to breathe some youth into the program, which has most recently been hosted by a 70-something Dan Rather and the ancient relic known as Bob Schieffer.
In the first move of its kind for a network news show, from the very first day that Couric takes the anchor chair, the Evening News will be simulcast on CBS.com, and after airing will be available on demand for free. Upon being available in on demand format, you'll also be able to select individual clips or reports from the program.

Lightspace Interactive LED Dance Floor

A couple days ago a story about MIT students building their own USB controlled LED Disco Dance Floor appeared. If you do not want to spend your free time connecting 1,536 LEDs there is actually a company selling those things.
Lightspace Corp. sells for instance illuminated interactive graphic display system that are either connected to a sound or lighting system. They also offer pressure sensitive displays to let people interact with the displays. The Lightspace product is a patent pending commercially tested tile system that is waterproof and UL approved. It can support up to 3000lbs of pressure per tile and it made out of UL94 rated Polycarbonate. It comes with a control station that can handle the calculations needed to display interactive games, visual, interactive and sync effects, as well as video and animation. The Lightspace Software allows to control all aspects of the floor: create playlists, set parameters to all the effects, sync to music, handle diagnostics, and create effects on the fly. It supports many types of media including avi, jpg, png, gif, and mpg. All formats can be manipulated to sync to music and be placed into playlists so that the system runs on it’s own. Interactive Mobile Art Project meshes
Tonight at the Lange Nacht der Museen (Long Night of Museums) in Berlin Interactive Media Artists Chris Wiener and Stefan Plessner perform an interactive experiment (called meshes) using images sent in live via Camera Mobile Phones. Those images are automatically assembled to a movie with a image processing software from french LTU Technologies.
This automatic generated movie is shown live on projection screens in the Filmmuseum Berlin, Deutsche Guggenheim and in the Museum für Kommunikation.
Starting at 6pm (GMT+1)tonight (Saturday 28th) the movie is also live to watch at http://www.meshes.org/film.

Olympia Interactive TV Coverage with MHP
Olympia fans in Germany, if they have a MHP (Multimedia Home Platform) enabled digital set-top box can watch Olympia coverage on 5 digital channels and access interactive additional data on screen.
Four channels provide nearly full coverage of everthing that goes on in Athens. The 5th channel provides interactive access to all the results and schedules.

MHP boxes are made by several manufactures including Humax, Nokia, Panasonic and Philips. Those digital TV boxes sell for around 200-400 Euros. The digital TV signal is available through cable or satellite in Germany.

Nokia's Interactive Visual Radio
Nokia will present in Cannes at this years MIDEM Conference, the year's biggest music market, their Visual Radio functionality.
Visual radio is an innovation that Nokia intends to bring to its basic mobile handsets in the course of this year, replacing the standard FM-radio that is packaged with some models.
Currently only the Nokia 7700 Media Terminal Phone slated for release in Q2/2004 has this features. The service provides interactivity for the user to directly interact with radio stations. additionally radio stations can push visual ads to the user during radio broadcast.

RFID Wearable Smart Badge from nTag Interactive
We reported about wearable personal smart badgets technology before: CharmBadget and InfoBadge.
nTag Interactive seems to be the most sophisticated solution that actually is available on the market.
nTag's solution provides the wearable tags, the radio system, and the central server. Users interact with the tags through the LCD displays and through the three control buttons. The tags interact with each other through an infrared connection.
nTAGs communicate with the central server through the radio system, which uses RFID.
The central server holds the master copy of all the participant profile data. One of the features is that the badges display which interests two users have in common when their badges are in contact via the infra-red interface.
nTAG Interactive, LLC was started by Rick Borovoy and George Eberstadt based on Mr. Borovoy's PhD research at the MIT MediaLab, in collaboration with Brian Silverman, Fred Martin and Professor Mitchel Resnick.
