Our review partner Digital Trends tested the Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro-111FD 50 inch Plasma. This high-end Plasma gained the Digital Trends Editor's Choice Award with quote: "There’s no question that the Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro-111FD is a new benchmark for plasma HDTVs—picture quality is that good."

Pioneer transforms Black Friday into Kuro Friday

Pioneer has great Plasma HDTVs with exceptional image quality like our Top 100 Gift Tip selection Pioneer KURO PDP-6020FD. Pioneer's PR department went a bit overboard piggybacking on Black Friday with calling out KURO Friday.

Home theater enthusiasts looking for a big picture and HD resolution have several ways they can go. You can opt for a LCD HDTV, plasma HDTV or a projector. The Projector route usually requires more space and bother than many are willing to go through leaving plasma and LCD HDTVs.

There are more LCD TVs on the market currently than there are plasma's making the LCD the more popular item. However many feel that you get better image quality from a plasma TV than you get from an LCD TV. I have found plasma's typically offer brighter picture, deeper blacks and just look better overall than LCD TVs in similar price ranges. Read more

Pioneer already unveiled the KURO KRF-9000FD 1080p Projector last month in Germany. Today Pioneer announced the Pioneer Elite KURO Projector in the States.

Pioneer KURO KRF-9000FD 1080p Projector unveiled

Pioneer officially introduces the KURO KRF-9000FD full HD projector in Munich at the High End trade-show. We found several photos of the KURO KRF-9000FD you can see them in the article gallery.

Pioneer was absent from the projector business for quite a while. The new Pioneer KURO KRF-9000FD 1080p Projector incorporates high reflectivity LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) technology reaching a contrast ratio of 30,000:1. Read more

Pioneer shows 9mm thin KURO Plasma TV and the absolute Black

Pioneer will show the future of flat panel TVs at the CES 2008 show floor. Under the code name “Project KURO” Pioneer shows a 9mm thin Plasma TV concept and a new level of contrast ratio that is supposed to challenge that quality measure of flat panel TVs. Pioneer says to be able to display absolute black with no measurable amounts of light emitting.

Pioneer KURO and KURO ELite Plasma HDTVs

Pioneer starts to ship the first 8th generation Plasma HDTVs under the KURO sub-brand in the U.S.

The 42 inch PDP-4280HD and the 50 inch PDP-5080HD are available now. The Pioneer PDP-4280HD is on sale for $2,420.24 on Amazon.com.
The Pioneer PDP-5080HD sells for $2,928.68 on Amazon.com.

The newest Pioneer panel technology features a black level reproduction that is 80% darker than the previous generation.

Both new Pioneer Plasma HDTV are 720p models and not 1080p. Read more
