Fujitsu unleashed a new desktop replacement notebook dubbed LifeBook N7010. The unique feature of the N7010 is that it has two LCD displays.
The primary screen of the N7010 is an 16-inch wide-aspect Crystal View Display which delivers brighter images and richer colors, while a second 4-inch Touch Zone touch screen enhances productivity by keeping information, such as photo slide show, CD/DVD controls, or application shortcuts visible at all times for seamless multitasking.
Instead of minimizing applications, you can have two live applications running at the same time by dragging one into the Touch Zone. For example, they can work on a large file on the main screen and chat on the webcam below.

Best Buy Qualifies All Insignia LCD TVs for Energy Star 3.0
Best Buy has announced that it has qualified its complete line of Insignia LCD TVs for the Energy Star 3.0 specification. All sets manufactured after November 1, 2008 will meet the requirements for the specification. Six of the TVs exceed the new specification by 15% or more.
Best Buy says that the certification of its TVs is a response to customers wanting more energy efficient electronic devices. Best Buy says that it worked with its TV manufacturers to make the sets 30% more efficient than competing products. All Insignia TVs available at Best Buy stores across the US will be Energy Star 3.0 rated by December 31, 2008. Read more

NEC Announces New P221W LCD
NEC has announced a new LCD for PC users called the P221W. The display has a 22-inch screen and is designed for professionals working in color-critical environments. People like web designers and graphic designers are the target market for the display.
The screen has a native 1680 x 1050 resolution and achieves 96% coverage of AdobeRGB color gamut. Other features include an internal programmable 10-bit lookup table, AmbiBright automatic brightness adjustment, 1000:1 contrast ration, 16ms response time and a brightness of 300 cd/m2. Also shipping with the display is an optimized color calibration sensor. The P221W will ship in December for $636.90. Read more

MINOX Digiscope is Like a Telescope with a LCD built-in
MINOX has introduced a new DCM digiscoping system that combines a digital camera, video, monitor, and eyepiece in one package for taking photos and digital video through a high-power scope. The optics of the system work like a regular digital camera and the LCD is a 2 3/8" unit with high-resolution color graphics.
The entire system weighs under a pound and measures 2 5/8" x 2 1/4" x 3/4". Resolution for the digital camera is 5MP. The system is the camera and LCD portion only; you have to attach it to your own scope. It will work with several different scopes including those from Zeiss, Lecia, and MINOX. The water resistant camera unit has 128MB of internal memory and uses SD cards with power from rechargeable batteries. The camera kit retails for $399. Read more

Sharp will introduce into the Japanese market the 16 HDTVs in the AQUOS DX Series with integrated Blu-ray player and recorder. The Sharp Aquos DX HDTVs are the world's first TVs equipped with Blu-ray Disc Recorders.
The Digital W Tuner in the Aquos DX series lets you record programs while watching TV, and the H.264/AVC (Advanced Video Coding) standard of the MPEG-4 suite enables 5X extended HD video recording (5X Mode), which allows for extended recording time while retaining the same exact full-HD quality as the original high-definition broadcast.

Acer Unveils PC with Phenom X3 and a 24-inch LCD
Acer has unveiled a new desktop PC that uses its recently announced Phenom X3 CPU. The Acer Aspire X3200 desktop can be outfitted with the Phenom X3 CPU, Blu-ray, NVIDIA graphics and more. The system is compact at 10.4" H x 4" W x 14.4" L. Other features include 640GB HDD and 4GB of RAM. Blu-ray is included for $679.99.
Acer also announced a new P244W 24-inch LCD with a low retail price of $339. The display supports a native and maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080, which is odd for a 24-inch LCD. The typical native and max resolution for a 24-inch LCD is 1920 x 1200. Read more

New LG Scarlet LG80 LCD TV slides out hidden Speakers
Today LG unveiled the LG Scarlet LG80 LCD HDTV. The new LG80 joins the LG60 and LG70 in the LG Scarlet TV series. The LG Scarlet LG80 has cool slide-out speakers that automatically appear when you switch on the new Scarlet.
This feature adds a bit of B&O coolness to this new LG TV. LG also claims it improves the sound quality of the 3.1-channel virtual surround sound system of the LG80.
The 3.1 sound system of the new LG Scarlet has 50W output performance and consists of four speakers tuned by Mr. Mark Levinson.

Apple networked LCD HDTVs rumored
Had enough of the Apple MacBook rumors? How about a fresh Apple rumor? Jason Calacanis told CNET UK that Apple is working on networked LCD HDTVs. The Apple LCD HDTV would be able to stream all your iTunes content from your Mac or PC. Basically the Apple TV box would be integrated in the TV sets.
There is no further meat to this rumor. I am not really seeing Apple jumping into the TV business. Yes they make nice big LCD monitors, but the market for TVs is very different.

LG Display, Taiwan LCD Makers Profits to sag

NEC Unveils 24 and 19-inch LCDs
NEC's latest premium LCDs for desktop use are the 24-inch MultiSync EA241WM and the MultiSync EA191M. The 24-inch LCD has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and 400 cd/m2 of brightness. The native resolution is 1920 x 1200 providing for full 1080p HD resolution.
The 19-inch LCD has a 5:4 aspect ratio and a contrast ratio of 1500:1. Brightness is 250 cd/m2 and the native resolution is 1280 x 1024. Both LCDs feature a 4-way adjustable stand, four integrated USB ports, down firing speakers, Dynamic Video Mode, DVI with HDCP, Eco Mode and more. The LCDs will ship this month for $549 for the 24-inch and $379 for the 19-inch. Read more

Kyocera to Mass Produce Glass Touch Panel LCDs
Kyocera announced that it would begin mass-producing a new type of glass on glass LCD touch panel display in October 2008. The glass/glass structure promises improved visibility and durability compared to film/glass screens that are traditionally used in touch devices.
Kyocera says that the substrate for the displays will be 0.2mm on the operational side and 0.5mm to 1.8mm on the display side. Sizes for the touch panels will range from 3.5" to 10.4". Kyocera will also offer a range of coatings to reduce glare or reflection. Read more

LG announces the first mass production 17 inch LCD display with RGB LED backlighting.
RGB LED delivers 105% of the NTSC Color gamut, which is 40% more than normal panels. Additionally the RGB LED backlit panels deliver 30% more contrast.
Many new released TVs use already RGB LED backlighting; now new notebooks can have the same quality.

Samsung Announces New Custom Install MX LCDs
Samsung has announced a new large format LCD screen series that is intended for the custom installation market. The new series is called the MX-series and the screens are ready to connect to satellite or set top boxes.
The series offers quick menu access, automatic video source detection, direct input selection, black-level extension, and 450 nits of brightness. The screens also feature ambient light sensors to adjust the picture for optimum viewing. A pair of 10W speakers are built into the displays as well. Screen resolution for the series is 1366 x 768 and contrast ratio is 3000:1. Read more

JVC Super-Slim LCD TV Unveiled at CEDIA
JVC has unveiled a pair of new super-slim LCD TVs that both feature a built-in tuner. The sets are part of JVC's Procision line and are 1.5-inches deep across most of the cabinet and 2.9-inches deep at the panel center.
The sets are available as the 46-inch LT-46SL89 and 42-inch LT-42SL89. Both will have full HD 1920 x 1080p resolution. JVC says that the new panel is 40% smaller in depth and bezel compared to conventional LCDs. Read more
