LG first to mass-produce Halogen-free 13.3 inch LCD Panel

LG announces that they will commence mass-production of environmentally friendly 13.3 inch notebook display panels this month.

The new LCD panels are halogen-free, meaning that the concentration of Bromine (Br) and chlorine (Cl) got dramatically reduced in these panels. Read more

New LG BD300 Blu-ray Player streams Netflix

Netflix gets another hardware device that supports their on demand video service. The Roku Netflix player was launched in May. Now LG announced the LG BD300 Blu-ray player with Netflix movie streaming capability.

Available this fall, the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player will play high definition Blu-ray discs, up-convert standard DVDs to 1080p and allow Netflix subscribers to instantly stream more than 12,000 choices of movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the TV for no additional charge. Read more

Text Messaging Champion Crowned by LG

LG has crowned the champion of its second annual LG National Texting Competition. The finals were held July 9th in New York City and Nathan Schwartz from Ohio won $50,000 in prize money for his texting skills.

The text that Schwartz sent to win the competition was, “Does everybody here know the alphabet? Let's text. Here it goes ... AbcDeFghiJKlmNoPQrStuvWXy & Z! Now I know my A-B-C's, next time won't you text with me?" Schwartz was able to complete the text accurately in 50 seconds. The competition was only open to those with active LG phones. Read more

LG Dare, LG Chocolate 3 and LG Decoy new at Verizon

Verizon Wireless is expanding its LG line-up with the LG Dare, LG Decoy, and the new LG Chocolate 3.

The most interesting of the three new LG phones from Verizon is the LG Dare touch-screen phone.

The 3G V-Cast enabled LG Dare features a 3.2MP camera, in-phone photo editing tool, direct uploads to a social networking site. Other details are still not published. Verizon promises updates on the Dare later this month. Read more

LG Launches New Stretched LCDs

LG announced a pair of stretched LCDs today called the M3800S-BN and M2900S-BN. The two displays have 38-inch and 29-inch screen sizes respectively. LG says that the very wide displays are ideal for locations where lots of data needs to be displayed.

LG says that the display quality of both LCDs is high-quality and that the displays can be mounted horizontally or vertically. The M3800S-BN has a resolution of 1366 x 398 and the M2900S-BN resolution is 1366 x 480. Both feature a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a 9ms response time. Read more

LG Electronics has announced the availability of four new home theater and audio systems that it introduced at CES 2008 in January. The systems include the LHT888, LHT854, LFD859 and LFA840. The LHT888 retails for $649.95 and has wireless rear speakers, 700W DVD receiver, 1080p upscaling via HDMI and more.

The LHT874 and LHT854 have the same features save the 874’s 5-disc DVD changer, HDMI output and wireless rear speakers. The 854 has a single disc DVD player. Both feature DVD 1080p upscaling and the 874 retails for $479.95 and the 854 goes for $299.95. Read more

LG Display unveils the world’s largest 6-inch elliptical and 1.4-inch circular-shaped LCD displays.

The 6-inch elliptical LCD measures 78.8 mm in height and is 131.4 mm wide, while the 1.4-inch circular LCD measures 35.5 mm in diameter. Both LCD displays are capable of displaying up to 262,000 colors and have a near 160 degree viewing angle. Read more
