U.S. Agents can seize Travelers' Laptops: Report
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. federal agents have been given new powers to seize
travelers' laptops and other electronic devices at the border and hold then for
unspecified periods the Washington Post reported on Friday.
Under recently disclosed Department of Homeland Security policies, such seizures
may be carried out without suspicion of wrongdoing, the newspaper said, quoting
policies issued on July 16 by two DHS agencies.

Case Logic Offers Another Security-Friendly Laptop Case
Lately most every laptop bag maker on the planet has been getting new bags ready that allow for x-rays of your laptop without removing it from your laptop bag. Case Logic has announced its own line of security-friendly laptop bags called simply enough Security Friendly cases.
The cases isolate the laptop so it can be easily x-rayed and provides an unobstructed view of the laptop to screeners. Two solutions will be offered from Case Logic; a case that isolate the laptop in a separate compartment and sleeves that will still have to be removed from the bag. Aerovation Products Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag now Available
Frequent travelers who take computers with them on flights are probably looking forward to the new laptop bags that allow X-rays to pass through so a laptop doesn't have to be removed to go through security checkpoints.
Aerovation Products now has its Checkpoint Friendly laptop bag available for purchase. The bag has a laptop compartment that peels open to allow for placement on screening belts. No clasps or buckles are used to keep the bag closed when in use and picking it up by the handles closes the bag back up. Read more

First Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Sleeve Coming in August
Briggs & Riley Travelware says that it will be the first company to market with a Travel Sentry Approved laptop sleeve that won’t require travelers to use a bin for their notebook computer. The laptop sleeve will be called the SpeedThru sleeve.
The SpeedThru sleeve will be available for purchase on August 15th and the sleeve will be included in @work and verb laptop cases. Pricing for the SpeedThru sleeve alone will be $39.99 for those who already own a Briggs & Riley laptop sleeve. Customers not owning a bag already can get the sleeve alone for $89.99. Read more

Mac heads looking for a way to keep their MacBook Pro notebook safe on airlines have a new option from Pelican. Pelican has added a MacBook Pro specific case to its 1490 line called the Apple 1490 laptop case. The case will fit both the 15-inch MacBook Pro and the 13.3-inch MacBook.
The interior is custom polyurethane foam with egg crate foam lining on the lid. The case is custom molded with no pick-and-luck foam used. The case promises to guard your MacBook from shock, impact and vibration and is sized for carry-on use. Read more

Averatec Introduces New Semi-rugged Laptops
Averatec introduced a pair of new semi-rugged notebooks called the Voya 4473 and the Voya 6494. The 4473 is a 14.1-inch notebook and the 6494 is a 15.4-inch notebook. Both notebooks feature semi-ruggedized magnesium allow frames and Intel dual-core processors.
The Voya 4473 has a 14.1-inch XGA display with a 1024 x 768 resolution. The internal components are drop and vibration resistant and the keyboard and touchpad are spill resistant. The CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo T2080 at 1.73 GHz. Other features include 802.11 a/b/g connectivity and 1GB of DDR2 RAM. The machine weighs 5.7 pounds. Read more
