Mitsubishi Announces New Wide-Format Projectors

Mitsubishi Digital announced new wide-format projectors have been added to the 500 series. The new projectors include the WD510U and the WD500U-ST. The ST projector is a short throw unit designed for higher education, government, and business applications.

Both projectors share the same 1280 x 800 resolution and have native 16:10 aspect ratios. The 510U offers 2600 lumens of brightness and the 500U provides 2100 lumens. The 500-ST can produce a 60-inch image on a screen or whiteboard from only 28 inches away. The projectors both use the new Texas Instruments DDP 2230 DMD chips with DLP technology. Read more

Target Limited Edition Shaun White Snowboarding Game Available

Target has announced that its limited edition Shaun White Snowboarding game is now available. The special Target edition of the game is available on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii and offers special content not available in other versions of the game.

Target buyers get Target Mountain, an entire mountain available only in the Target version of the game. Other special content includes additional scenes, exclusive jibs and a virtual version of the Target Chalet, the mountainside home where Target athletes live during the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado. SteelSeries Introduces Limited Edition Zboard for WoW: Wrath of the Lich King

The SteelSeries Zboard is one of the most unique gaming keyboards on the market. The keyboard uses a base that can have other keysets laid on top. This allows for a normal layout when doing general computer work and a custom layout when gaming with specific game titles.

Zboard has announced a limited edition keyset for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. The kit includes the Zboard base with a standard keyset and the WoW keyset. In addition to the Zboard, SteelSeries is also offering cloth mouse pads with WoW artwork from the expansion pack. The Zboard will sell for $69.99 for the kit and the keyset will retail for $19.99 alone. Read more

Mitsubishi XD95U Pico-portable Projector unveiled

Mitsubishi today announced the release of the XD95U, its new 3.3-pound pico-portable projector for presenters on the go. Its estimated 3000-hour lamp life (in low mode) and filter-free design provide a low total cost of ownership, making it an economical choice.
Why this 3.3 pound is dubbed "pico-portable" is not clear to me. Pico is associated with the mobile phone sized or smaller projector technology. Read more

Mitsubishi LaserVue debuts on Amazon

The first Laser TV finally makes its appearance on Amazon.com. Mitsubishi announced last week that the 65 inch LaserVue L65-A90 is officially on sale in stores. Amazon is not directly offering the LaserVue HDTV yet. A retailer named Electronics Expo is offering the L65A90 Laser TV via Amazon for $6,999.

Reviews of the LaserVue Laser TV have been very positive so far. The only beef is with the high price and it seems none of the retailers currently see the need to move down from the MSRP of the L65A90. Read more

EA Commits to N-Gage with New Games

Since the Apple App Store has launched and the iPhone has turned out to be such a great mobile gaming platform, it seems like we hear little about the Nokia N-Gage devices. EA Mobile has announced stronger support for the N-Gage platform with several games coming globally.

Games specifically for the N-Gage platform include FIFA 09, Spore Origins, Monopoly Here & Now, Need for Speed Undercover, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, and The Sims 3. These games are set to launch over the next year and will add titles to the platform. None of the games are noted to be N-Gage exclusives. Read more

Mitsubishi LaserVue Laser TV officially on Sale

Mitsubishi announced that their first Laser TV LaserVue 65 inch HDTV is available at retailers now. The Mitsubishi LaserVue L65-A90 is now being sold for $6,999 at select specialty retailers nationwide.
Apparently sales of the Laser TV started earlier as Mitsubishi says in the announcement that many consumers nationally have already purchased LaserVue.

Quote: "The consumer demand for LaserVue has simply exceeded our expectations and the product is a terrific example of Mitsubishi's technology leadership within the home entertainment market. LaserVue Premier launched by Mitsubishi

The new Laser TV LaserVue from Mitsubishi is supposed to start shipping soon, or did they already? At least Mitsubishi already launched LaserVue Premier, a special program for LaserVue owners. Membership is free and offers LaserVue owners benefits like LaserVue Premier Toll Free Hotline, Priority service, Loaner/Replacement Program and Access to the LaserVue Premier website.

As reported Mitsubishi has a LaserVue roadshow on the road, but there is no definite date on when the 65 inch LaserVue L65-A90 is going to ship besides Q3 timeframe. Read more

Luminvision Limited Interactive Projection

Luminvision Limited announced that it has updated it ADVIS Interactive Projection System that allows ordinary projectors and computers to display a virtual interactive wall, floor, or other surface. The projection is offered as an interactive advertising medium.

The library of over 100 interactive effects is available and each is configurable to the campaign. Luminvision supplies the software and hardware needed for the system to function. I saw something similar to this at CES in January. It's really cool, the one I saw had fish swimming in a shallow pool. When you stepped on the projection, the fish would swim away and the water would realistically ripple from where you were standing. Read more

The Big Lebowski movie starring Jeff Bridges and John Goodman is one of these cult movies I can watch over and over again. "The Dude" movie is now 10 years old and just got released as a 10th Anniversary Edition on DVD.

Committee Formed to Define 3-D Mastering Standard for Homes

I remember the 3-D movies from when I was a kid where you had to wear paper glasses with red and blue lenses. The movies really weren’t that impressive, not to mention they were blurry and just didn’t look that cool. Modern 3-D films like Beowulf on the other hand are fantastic with clarity that rivals normal films and great 3-D effects.

The Society of motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) says that it has formed a committee to define the parameters for the mastering of 3-D films and more for home viewing. The goal of the committee is to define a standard that can display 3-D content on all fixed devices in the home regardless of the delivery channel. This standard will pave the way for 3-D broadcasts in the home from movies, TV channels and cable providers. Read more

Unlimited Closed Beta Underway for MMORPG Pet Game

When I first read that an MMORPG game based on pets was in closed beta my first thought was why. Why would you want a MMORPG game where you took the form of a pet? I don’t get it, but I guess all those out there who like to dress up their pets in clothes might think this is the coolest game idea ever.

The game is called Pocketpet Journey West and the developer of the game, Perfect World Co, announced today that the MMORPG was now in an unlimited closed beta test which will start on July 17th. An in game item mall will be open during the beta as well. I can only assume you can buy things like chew toys and sweaters for your virtual pet character there. Read more

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Now Available

Fans of Guitar Hero and the band Aerosmith can now buy Guitar Hero: Aerosmith in stores across the country. The game only features tracks from Aerosmith’s massive library of hits. Some of the tracks were re-mastered by Aerosmith just for the game.

One of the guest appearances in the game is from Darryl “DMC” McDaniels from rap group Run DMC. Aerosmith and Run DMC teamed up for a remake of “Walk this Way” in the 1980’s, helping to rebuild Aerosmith’s popularity when rap was just starting to take off. Read more

Mitsubishi introduces Premium LCD HDTVs with integrated Sound Projector

Mitsubishi introduced a pair of new Ultra Thin Frame premium flat panel HDTVs today that feature integrated Sound Projectors. The two sets are the 46-inch screen LT-46149 and the 52-inch screen LT-52149 models.

The integrated sound projector uses an array of 16 speakers to reproduce a true 5.1 surround sound listening experience without needing speakers or wiring to accomplish it. Both models also feature a 120Hz refresh rate and the ability to display HD programming. The 46-inch set will retail for $3299 and the 52-ich set will sell for $3699. Read more
