slotMusic MP3 music on microSD
A new physical music format has been announced called slotMusic. The new format will be available soon and will come with tracks pre-loaded on microSD cards that can be slipped into portable devices to play high-quality DRM-free music.
Music publishers supporting the format will include EMI Music, Sony BMG, Universal Music Group, and Warner. The slotMusic cards will be available at Best Buy and Wal-Mart stores. The cards will be packaged with a small USB sleeve to allow playback on any PC. Pricing and artists for the format are unknown at this time. Read more

Sony Announces New Walkman MP3 Players
Sony announced new Walkman DAPs today including the NWZ-S736F, NWZ-S738F, NWZ-E436F, and NWZ-E438F. The two new S-series players offer drag and drop loading simplicity and support for various audio and video codec's. The two players are also the first Sony players to offer SenseMe channels to analyze the music collection and suggest channels based on the info gathered from the user's tracks.
The players also offer integrated noise cancellation and an accessory cable to use the headphone in an airline. The screen used in the series is a 2-inch QVGA. The E-series Walkman's have a button that allows the lighting to pulse with the beat of the music and a built-in voice recorder. The players can show video and photos as well. Read more

Amazon MP3 Offers Daily Deals and Friday Five Discounts
Amazon MP3 has announced new ongoing promotions called “Daily Deals” and “Friday Five” that offer deep discounts on new releases and albums from the Amazon catalog. The Daily Deals campaign will be updated daily and offer popular albums at discounted prices.
The Friday Five promotion will offer five albums at $5 per album starting Friday and going throughout the weekend. Amazon says that all of the MP3 tracks it sells are without DRM protection. Amazon says the Friday Five this week will be Rolling Stone's "Let It Bleed," Frank Sinatra's "The Essential Frank Sinatra," Robert Plant & Alison Krauss' "Raising Sand," Linkin Park's "Minutes to Midnight" and Andrea Bocelli's "Vivere - The Best Of”. Napster Claims Title of Largest MP3 Store
Napster announced today that it now has the largest MP3 store around with a total of 6 million tracks in DRM-free MP3 format. Napster claims its store is 50% larger than any other MP3 store and that it features the largest catalog of major label tracks as well as independent tracks.
The MP3 format is compatible with both the iPod and the iPhone. Pricing for the digital tracks with Napster will be $0.99 per song and $9.95 for most MP3 albums. The tracks are available in 256kbps bit rate and downloads include high resolution album art. Read more

Amazon grabs the Sunday headlines with the announcement of the international rollout of Amazon MP3, Amazon's DRM-free MP3 digital music store in 2008.
"We have received thousands of e-mails from Amazon customers around the world asking us when we will make Amazon MP3 available outside of the U.S. They can't wait to choose from the biggest selection of high-quality, low-priced DRM-free MP3 music downloads which play on virtually any music device they own today or will own in the future," said Bill Carr, Amazon.com Vice President of Digital Music. CSR to Show Bluetooth MP3 Player Reference Design at CES 2008
There will be no shortage of MP3 players at CES 2008. The cheapest player may well be the new reference design being unveiled by CSR featuring integrated stereo Bluetooth technology. CSR says the bill of materials for the reference design is under $10.
That will open the world of wireless music up to a whole new price category. The reference design is called the BlueCore player and includes all circuit diagrams and other required materials. Read more

Oakley Split Thump MP3 Sunglasses
Last year I reviewed the original set of Oakley Thump MP3 shades and thought they were pretty cool. Sure, they could have been better looking, but overall they were OK. Oakley has announced an upgraded set of shades called the Split Thump.
The cool part about this latest version is that when you don’t want to get your groove on or answer questions from the technologically challenged about your shades, you can remove the ear buds and they look like normal shades. Read more
