Asus S101 not an Eee PC and actually targets MacBook Air
A week ago an Asus Eee Roadmap was leaked that showed a new S101 and S91 netbook in the Ultimate segment. At an event in Taiwan Asus' CEO showed off productions samples of the Asus S101 and revealed that Asus will go to market with the Asus S101 without the Eee PC moniker.
They rather target the premium lightweight notebook sector with the S101. The Asus S101 is 16-21mm thin and Asus actually set its eyes on competing with Apple's Macbook Air.

Photos of next Apple MacBook leaked in Asia
Remember the the leaked iPhone 3G case molds that appeared on Asian sites before the iPhone 3G launch? Well, now we look at supposedly leaked photos of the new Apple MacBooks that tell as much/little as those molds.
The photos of the alleged MacBook follow the rumors we reported about earlier. The case is rounded and takes pointers from the MacBook Air. Additionally the material of the case looks like its aluminum.

Fins-up FIN Stand for MacBook Launched
Fins-Up announced that its FIN laptop stand is now available for the MacBook family of computers from Apple. The FIN is made from 100% aluminum and has a powder coated finish to match the MacBook Pro.
Powder coated versions are also available in black or white for the MacBook. The FIN promises to lift the screen to a perfect angle for working on the notebooks and allows air to circulate to keep the computer cool. Read more

Next Apple MacBook gets Mystery Chips
This week started with two juicy rumors about the next generation of Apple MacBook notebooks. We already reported that the new MacBooks would be thinner and feature a glass trackpad.
AppleInsider released a report claiming that Apple will have a special chipset next to the Intel CPU in the new MacBooks.

Next Apple MacBook gets Glass Trackpad
Rumors about the next generation MacBooks get more concrete. Seth Weintraub reports on the ComputerWorld about the new features he heard from his sources about the next generation Apple MacBook notebooks.
The new MacBooks are supposed to be thinner (save guess) and feature a tracpad with glass surface with multi-touch and gesture support. Glass is nice to touch, but you sure will need to clean it every day with Windex.

MacBook Users Get Easy Access to Wi-Fi with GoBoingo
Mac users who live on hotspots provided by Boingo wireless can get access to the hotspots with one click now thanks to a new Mac application. A Mac version of the GoBoingo! Client is now available for download that allows users to log in to public Wi-Fi hotspots with one click.
The Boingo service isn’t free but there are several plans to choose from including a monthly and a pay as you go plan. The new application works on OS X 10.4 and 10.5 for MacBooks and Powerbooks. Boingo says that as of January 2008 almost 20% of airport Wi-Fi traffic is from Mac systems. Read more

MacBook Air SSD Price drops by $500
AppleInsider reports that the price of the MacBook Air with SSD dropped by $500 this month.
The price for the MacBook air with 64GB SSD was an horendous $3,098 originally and is now down at $2,598.
There is definitely a price movement going on in the SSD space. OCZ announced new 2.5 inch SSD SATA II devices in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB sizes with unseen low prices. The OCZ Core SSD have MSRPs of $169, $259 and $479 respectively.

Stolen MacBook takes Photos of Robbers
Last week a stolen Macintosh laptop helped catch the thieves with its remote desktop feature "Bakc to My Mac".
Via Back to My Mac the owner could activate the webcam when the robbers actually started to use the stolen laptop and connected to the internet.
With the spreading of GPS sensors inside of laptops it will be becoming even easier to find stolen notebooks again. Laptop vendors should integrate a feature deep down in the BIOS that reports the location of the laptop when outside of a certain delimiter set by the owner.

New Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro announced
The Rumors about new updated Apple MacBook Pro notebooks became somewhat true. Apple introduced today not only new more powerful versions of its MacBook Pro, but also MacBook notebooks.
MacBook Pro models now feature the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors (running at up to 2.6GHz with 6MB of shared L2 cache), larger hard drives (up to 300GB), and 2GB of memory standard in most models.

Multitouch to come to all Apple MacBooks including old Ones?
Apple is possibly bringing multitouch to older MacBooks as the feature is apparently just software based.

Apple MacBook Air Ships
Apple announced yesterday that the MacBook Air is now shipping. While the Air is certainly one of the sexiest notebooks around, it’s certainly not without its drawbacks. The biggest drawbacks are the fact that none of the components are upgradable. You can’t even change the battery for a fresh one on the go.
That said, for the majority of notebook users that simply won’t matter. I only own one battery for my notebook and have never changed it. What could be a bigger issue is the paltry 80GB hard drive, especially if you need to run boot camp for Windows access. Read more

Apple MacBook Air Hardware Tests
Yesterday we reported about the first MacBook Air reviews from the big guns like WSJ and Newsweek. Now the more technology oriented reviews have been published that contain lab test results for the performance of the MacBook Air.
MacWorld has published preliminary testing results that reveal the not so surprising truth: The MacBook Air is quite a bit slower than the other Apple laptops.
