Man & Machine Granted Trademark on Mighty Mouse Name for PC Mice

Trademark and patent battles are nothing new in the technology world. These sorts of legal fights happen all the time and often they go the way of the larger of the two companies fighting. A company called Man & Machine makes a line of sealed peripherals for hospitals and medical offices that can be cleaned and disinfected without damaging the devices.

Among these offerings is a sealed mouse called the Mighty Mouse. You may or may not recognize the Mighty Mouse name as what Apple calls some of its Mac mice as well. Man & machine has announced that the USPTO has granted it a trademark on the name Mighty Mouse for use on computer mice in the US. Read more

Medicare Denies Useful $150 App in Lieu of $8000 Machine

Our nation is in a bit of a money crisis. In the last few years the national debt has soared to numbers so high they sound imaginary. With wars in the Middle-East still ongoing, and an extremely expensive universal healthcare bill (likely) coming in the future, that debt is only going to increase. The one thing people on both side of the political spectrum can agree on is this; we need to start cutting costs, big time.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the folks at Medicare didn't get that memo. Gizmodo reports that they have refused pay for a $150 iPhone app that does the work of an $8,000 computer.

Battle Machines Laser Tag RC Toys

I am a big fan of remote controlled toys and my son is too. If you combine the RC toys with some lasers, I am especially interested. Jada Toys has announced a slick new line of RC toys called Battle Machines that sell for $49.99 for a pair of the machines or $29.99 for a single car.

The toys look like they are right out of the Death Race film and combine laser tag style play with RC racing. The toys have a shield level indicator and there are three different cars to choose from including the Mustang GT, 69 Chevy Camaro SS, and a 99 Chevy Silverado Dooley. Read more

iBuyPower Unveils Desktop Gaming Machines

iBuyPower is a small boutique builder of gaming desktop computers and it has announced its latest wares offering gamers the choice of Intel or AMD components. The Gamer Fire 640 - 3D is an AMD Phenom II X3 720 CPU machine that features a Gigabyte mainboard and offers NVIDIA graphics. The video card is the 9800GTX+ with 512MB of RAM.

The system also has 500GB of storage and a 20x optical drive with 4GB of RAM for $1349. The Gamer Paladin F830 -3D runs an Intel Core i7 CPU with an Asus P6T mainboard and 6GB of DDR3 RAM, Graphics on the machine are via NVIDIA's GTX 260 core 216 video card. Read more

Dell Launches Three Core i7 Gaming Machines

Dell has announced three new gaming machines that use the new Intel Core i7 CPU with Intel's X58 chipset. The three systems include the Alienware Area-51 X58, Alienware Area-51 ALX X-58 and the Dell XPS 730x. The two Alienware machines offer up to 12GB of triple channel DDR3 RAM while the XPs machine offers up to 6GB. The platform supports both SLI from NVIDIA and CrossfireX from ATI and supports RAID. Power supplies are available with up to 1200W in Alienware machines.

Performance increase using the new processors is over 20% compared to previous generation gaming platforms. Intel Core i7 processors help the rigs crank out maximum benchmarks at peak game settings. Other features of the machines include AlienFX lighting, Alienware Command Center advanced user controls, and the XPS machine has lighting inside the case that turns on when the side panel is removed. eMachines EL 1200 Small Form Factor Computer Announced

Desktop computers are not as popular as they once were now that notebooks are the best selling systems around. However, for many users a desktop computer is still a desirable system for many reasons. Small form factor desktop PCs are quickly becoming the most popular style for a desktop and eMachines has announced a new SFF system.

The EL 1200 series SFF computer starts at under $300 and the desktop chassis is about the size of a dictionary. eMachines says that the computer is 40% smaller and 55% lighter than its smallest tower PC. Two models are offered including the EL 1200-05w and the EL 1210-01e. Read more

Man & Machine UCool Keyboard Review

Last week I took a look at the Really Cool keyboard and found that it really wasn’t so cool to type on. Today we are looking at the UCool Keyboard that looks and feels much more like a normal keyboard.

Despite looking like a plain old keyboard, the UCool can be fully submerged for cleaning and has drain holes to help get the water out. Typing feels good and the keyboard works very well overall. Read more

eMachines Launches Three Desktop Computers

eMachines announced three new computer systems today with low price tags aimed at students going back to school. The eMachines T3656 is the lowest priced of the three new systems with a MSRP of only $299.99. the machine runs on an Intel Celeron, had 1GB or memory and a 160GB HDD.

The T5247 desktop will sell for $399.99 and uses an Intel Dual-core processor and 2GB of DDR2 RAM. Storage capacity for the machine is 320GB. Also being offered is a complete system called the W3653 that includes a computer running an Intel Celeron Dual-Core and 1GB of DDR2 RAM with a 320Gb HDD. This system also includes a 17-inch widescreen LCD. The W3653 will retail for $498. Read more

For the vast majority of computer users out there a quad-core processor and 4 GB of RAM are simply not needed. For many users the most a computer is used for is surfing the net, checking email and chatting with friends. Any computer can do that and what this sort of computer user needs is a cheap computer.

eMachines announced a new budget desktop today called the T3642. The system sells for only $349.99 without a display. The T3642 uses an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ CPU at 2.6GHz and runs on Windows Vista Home Premium.

Graphics are via NVIDIA GeForce 6100 and the system has 1GB of DDR2 RAM expandable to 2GB. The hard drive is 250GB and the system includes a DVD super-multi drive and a 15-in-1 media reader. eMachines also announced a slightly more powerful system called the T5246 using a dual-core processor at $429.99. New IEC Standard lets Washing Machines talk to TVs

The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) created a new specification for Home Network Communication Protocol over IP for Multimedia Household Appliances (IEC 62457).

The new home network protocol allows you to network traditional household appliances with personal computers and audio-visual equipment like TVs.

The washing machine would be able to display a message on your TV screen when its done. This is quite nice as most people have their washing machine away from the living area. Read more
