Gameloft Releasing Midnight Bowling for WiiWare
Gameloft has announced that it will be releasing a bowling game called Midnight Bowling for the Wii. The game is available only as a download via WiiWare. Gameloft says that this is the fifth title it has developed for WiiWare.
Midnight Bowling retails for 800 Wii points. Players can chose to challenge up to three friends in multiplayer battles or play alone in career mode. The controls are precise and offer advanced spin control. Career mode puts players in trendy locations and the look of the ball can be customized. Read more

NPD Group Says 1 in 3 iPhone 3G Buyers Came from Different Carriers
According to market research firm NPD Group, AT&T is reaping big rewards from its exclusive iPhone deal with Apple. NPD says that its research has concluded that one in three iPhone 3G buyers came to AT&T from another provider specifically to get the iPhone 3G.
NPD also says that its research shows the iPhone 3G is the second best-selling handset among consumers in the US behind the Motorola RAZR V3. Before the launch of the 3G iPhone the original iPhone counted for 11% of the consumer smartphone market, after the 3G the iPhone held 17% of the market. In June through August 2008 the iPhone 3G was the best selling smartphone. Read more

Nikon Media Port UP300x and UP300 HMD unveiled
Nikon announced a rather unique product today with the Media Port UP300x and UP300 multimedia playback headset with built-in Wi-Fi capability.
The Nikon Media Port UP300x and UP300 features a display, headphones, mobile A/V player, Wi-Fi capability, high-capacity memory, and power source all integrated into one wearable device.
The display generates a virtual 50-inch large screen from a distance of three meters. The Nikon Media Port has only one display for one eye.
The UP300x is the better equipped version featuring a motion sensor and 8GB internal memory instead of the 4GB the UP300 has.

Baumer GigE Cameras use Power over Ethernet
If you have ever had to run cameras for security around a home or business, you know that you often need cables to connect the camera to a PC and for power. Baumer has announced new cameras that use Power over Ethernet technology.
The camera uses Cat 6 Ethernet cable to send power to operate the camera and connect the camera to the server for recording video with one wire. A power injector module of Ethernet switch can provide power as far as 100m down a cable. Read more

Oscar's new Documentary Rules become hot Topic

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - A controversy is brewing over a change to
Oscar's feature documentary rules.
Because of the change -- which required a one-week qualifying run in New York by
August 31 -- one of the year's most buzzed-about documentaries, the Israeli
animated film "Waltz With Bashir," won't be eligible for consideration. A host
of executives and festival veterans are calling on the Academy of Motion Picture
Arts and Sciences to revise the rule.

AMD going Fabless according to big announcement today
AMD informed the world that they will be making a significant corporate announcement today at 8am EDT. The WSJ already has the details on what AMD is planning to say. Update: AMD Foundry announcement official.
AMD is getting rid of their manufacturing operations to cut cost. Manufacturing will be rolled into a new joint Venture dubbed Foundry Co. with a cash infusion of $6 billion from an investment company based in Abu Dhabi.

Fusion-IO ioXtreme Storage Device Displayed
Fusion-io showed off its PCI Express based SSD storage solution at E For All. The SSD slips into the PCI Express slot of a desktop computer and adds 80GB of solid-state storage to the system. Performance of the ioXtreme drive is unknown.
The ioXtreme will be priced at under $1000 when it is made available for home users in Q1 2009. Performance figures for the ioDrive using similar technology to the ioXtreme is impressive with 50ms latency and the ability to process over 120,000 IOPS. Read more

Playstation Home is all about Social
The 3D online community platform Playstation Home is still slated to launch as open beta in Fall. Currently Playstation Home is in extended beta. MTV sat down with Jack Buser, director of the PlayStation 3 virtual world "Home" project last week to get a demonstration of Playstation Home in its current state.
Mr. Buser took a lot of emphasis on the social aspects of the Playstation Home platform and how it will help PS3 gamers to meet each other and "socialize".

Slingmedia finally expands to Germany
In 2006 Slingmedia promised a PAL version of their Slingboxes, but they only slowly expanded into Europe. Today Slingboxes are available in the UK, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Denmark, and Netherlands. Now apparently Singmedia is going to expand to all of Europe including Germany.
Slingmedia will offer the Slingbox Pro and Slingbox Solo. The Slingbox Pro has a built-in Analog/Digital tuner that supports PAL.

Leaked BlackBerry Document details RIM Thunder Positioning and much more
We just reported about leaked slides for the upcoming touchscreen BlackBerry Thunder. The BoyGeniusReport has even more leaked information from RIM that details the BlackBerry product positioning and upcoming future BlackBerry phones. Looks like RIM needs some urgent consulting from Apple on how to keep their people from leaking stuff.
The density of the leaked BlackBerry material should be even a very revealing read for Apple and other RIM competitors.
There is just everything in there from market segmentation to competitive positioning.

Sega Vision portable Media Device coming
Sega is apparently getting back in the console business with a new portable gaming and media player dubbed Sega Vision.
The Sega Vision is more a media device than a gaming console, which is kind of odd for Sega.
Features of the Sega Vision include MP4 movie player, digital TV tuner, MP3 player, 2GB integrated memory, video and photo camera, eBook reader, and Java mini games.

ABI Research says the Wireless Home Office is Coming
ABI Research says that the wireless home office is finally coming. The research firm says the first stage of the wireless office is arriving now. UWB gear is hitting store shelves now and wireless USB tech is being embedded into computers, docking stations and external hard drives as we speak.
ABI says Dell and Lenovo are leading the charge for UWB-enabled laptops with Toshiba and Kensington readying UWB docking stations. A range of wireless hard drives is expected to hit market from Imation by the end of 2008. Read more

Nintendo Unveils Holiday Wii Gear and Games
Nintendo has announced new gear and games for its Wii console for the holiday season. One of the biggest announcements is one that we talked about in July called Wii Speak. The Wii Speak channel will go online November 16th and will allow up to four people to chat online. The service requires the new Wii Speak accessory retailing for $29.99.
Nintendo also says that supplies of the Wii in America will see significant increases between October and December compared to 2007 levels. Considering you couldn’t find the console during the holiday season last year, that is good news. Read more

New Nintendo DSi Accessory is supposedly a Pedometer
Yesterday we featured the Nintendo DSi Promotion Video with a screen grab of a mystery DSi accessory.
The little one button device is apparently a pedometer that ties to an upcoming fitness title for the Nintendo DSi.
There have been trademarks filed by Nintendo related to a pedometer supporting this.

GameSpot Announces 20 Most Anticipated 2008 Holiday Season Games
With the holiday season fast approaching you can guarantee if you have kids old enough that there are tons of video games on their holiday wish lists. This holiday season some seriously interesting titles are being announced and many of them are follow-ups to some of the most popular game franchises to hit the PC or console systems.
GameSpot has put out its list of the top 20 most anticipated games for the 2008 holiday season. All of the games on the list will launch between August and December of this year. "The hundreds of new games releasing this fall might be overwhelming for people new to games," said Ricardo Torres, editor in chief, GameSpot. "Given that every penny counts in today's economy, we want to point people in the right direction with this list of games from a broad range of genres that are generating the most interest from the GameSpot editors as well as the GameSpot community." Cheapest Blu-ray Player comes from Samsung
Finding a cheap Blu-ray player is still rather hard. One would expect that they would be selling under the magic $200 price point by now, but they do not. Of course you can always use the PS3 to play Blu-ray movies, but if you do not own one and do not want to pay $399 for it, you do not have that many options.
Low cost electronics brands like Daewoo and Magnavox have Blu-ray players in the pipeline or already on the market. Searching for the best deal on a Blu-ray player I actually landed on a Samsung Blu-ray player.

Downey to play Sherlock Holmes as Studio eyes Series

Holmes in an upcoming blockbuster that studio Warner Bros. hopes will become a

GameStop to buy Micromania for $700 mln

for $700 million, including debt, to gain a presence in France.
