SanDisk Launches Extreme III Memory Stick Pro

SanDisk Launches Extreme III Memory Stick Pro Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review SanDisk announced its latest product aimed at Sony electronics called the SanDisk Extreme III Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo. The MS promises read and write speeds of 30 MB per second and will be available in June.

The new card will come in either 4GB or 8GB capacities and is aimed at Sony DSLR cameras, point-and-shoot cameras and camcorders. In addition to being very fast the cards can also operate in extreme temperatures from -13 to 185 F and ship with software to recover deleted images. Pricing for the cards is $89.99 for the 4GB and $149.99 for the 8GB. Read more

Nexus says it is now trying to set a new standard with the launch of its new memory coolers with integrated heat pipes called the HXR-5500.

The HXR-5500 has an integrated heatpipe with a 5mm diameter. The pipe transfers heat to the attached aluminum heatsink for dissipation. Nexus claims a temperature drop of 13 to 14 degrees C compared to stock heat spreaders. Read more

Intel and STMicroelectronics announced they have begun shipping prototype samples of a new memory technology called Phase Change Memory (PCM). This is the first fully functional silicon delivered to customers for evaluation.

The code name for the memory device is “Alverstone” and it uses PCM technology for fast read and write speeds at a power consumption lower than conventional flash memory. The PCM memory also allows for bit alterability seen in RAM. Read more

Rambus announced today that it had licensed its XDR memory architecture to Toshiba to be used in HDTVs. Rambus’ XDR, XIO and XMC will be used in conjunction to provide Toshibas HDTVs with 4.8Gbps of throughput.

Qimonda announced today that it has begun sampling its new GDDR5 graphics RAM to customers. The GDDR5 RAM is available in 512MB capacities and will see duty in graphics cards hopefully in the near future.

Currently the vast majority of video cards on the market from ATI and NVIDIA are still running GDDR3 RAM. ATI uses GDDR4 in two of its video cards. I have to wonder with the big video card makers not jumping on GDDR4 if the adoption of GDDR5 memory will happen very quickly. Read more
