New iPod Model Numbers Leaked
The big iPod event is about to hit, but it's still not too late for some sweet, juicy leaks. AppleInsider is reporting that several people "familiar with the matter" have leaked them several iPod model numbers. They claim their source is very reliable, and AppleInsider is rarely wrong about such claims.
Their source stated that there would be no capacity increases for the iPod nano or shuffle, but that the iPod classic would be getting a boost from 120 GB to 160 GB. This means first that the iPod classic WILL be getting a refresh of its line today (hurray!) and second that the shuffle will also be getting revamped as well. There is no news yet about the iPod touch (which may be delayed due to technical difficulties.).

Current Model iPods Running Out
Not unlike the iTablet, Apple's September 9th iPod event is currently unconfirmed, but widely accepted as an imminent reality. While there's been no hard confirmation of the iTablet rumors, we do have some pretty solid reasons to believe in new iPods this September. According to Ars Technica, the old ones are running out.
Ars has found that stock of current-model iPods has reached a critically low level, and new ones are nowhere on the horizon. Sources from within an Apple Authorized Reseller have stated that all current iPod SKUs are being discontinued. The only possible explanations for this are, one, that Apple has decided to stop selling iPods, or two, that a new line of updated iPods is just around the corner.

The Pirate Bay's New Business Model
Back when the news first broke that The Pirate Bay had been sold to the Swedish-owned Gaming Factory we wondered just how they intended to make TPB profitable. The whole reason that the Bay routinely sees tens of millions of views every day is because it is the largest torrent site on the Internet. Next to no one visits that website when they aren't looking to steal media.
Now the Gaming Factory has disclosed their business plan. They're going to turn the Bay into a paid subscription site and use the revenue from those subscriptions to pay content providers. Users will be able to subsidize their fee by dedicating certain portions of their computing power to the Bay. As Gaming Factory describes it,

Hulu: Moving to Paid Subscription Model?
Hulu is a wonderful website that offers streaming copies of hundreds of television shows, movies, documentaries, and short films. In very little time it has become one of the most popular destinations on the Internet. After all, who doesn't love having access to everything worth watching, 100% free of charge? Even dedicated media pirates were willing to forgo torrenting for the greater ease of just sitting through one or two short commercials an episode.
Now it looks like the golden age of Hulu might be coming to an end. Hulu's growth has started to stall, and NewsCorp is looking at ways to drive up profits before the free content giant collapses under its own weight.

OQO Model2+ Admits Production is Unlikely
We mentioned last week that pre-orders of the OQO Model 2+ UMPC had been cancelled. BoingBoing Gadgets reports cancellation of orders on the Model 2+ by OQO are untrue. According to OQO, the pre-orders were cancelled by the online vendor Build Your UMPC.
The cancellations came after OQO was unable to commit to a ship date. OQO SVP Bob Rosin said, "While we haven't canceled the orders, it is unlikely that we will be able to produce additional model 2+ units. So it did not seem worth trying to police that story, as it is accurate in a long-term sense." Read more
