Dreamworks to use Intel Technology for 3-D Movies
NEW YORK (Reuters) - DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc plans to use chips from
Intel Corp for the creation of 3-D movies, the companies said on Tuesday.
DreamWorks will use Intel's visual computing products for 3-D animated feature
films starting with its "Monsters vs. Aliens" movie, set for domestic release on
March 27, 2009, it said.
Intel, whose biggest rival is Advanced Micro Devices Inc , said it also plans to
develop next-generation 3-D viewing technology for home theaters, personal
computers, video games, online environments and mobile devices.

Open Source animated Movie Big Buck Bunny Free to watch
The Peach open movie project published their 10 minute animated feature film Big Buck Bunny now on the internet for everyone to watch - Pixar has got some competition!
The Blender Foundation initiated this Open Source movie project and it follows the 2007 released Elephants Dream. The Blender Foundation and Blender community have been the main financiers for Peach.

TiVO to Offer Disney Movie Rentals on Demand
TiVO announced today that TiVO subscribers will soon get the ability to download movies from The Walt Disney Studios to broadband connected TiVO DVRs directly from the TV. The titles will be available to rent through a partnership with Disney-ABC and CinemaNow.
The rental period is very similar to Apple TV with 24-hours of viewing in standard definition. Some movie titles will be available in HD format as well. Pricing for the movie rentals hasn’t been announced at this time nor has a specific availability date for the service. Read more

New Movies on iTunes for $14.99 same Day as DVD Release
We reported about it earlier, now it is official. Apple officially announces the availability of new movies on iTunes on the same day the DVD release is taking place.
New movie releases and catalog titles will be available from 20th Century Fox, The Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Lionsgate, Image Entertainment and First Look Studios.
Movies purchased from iTunes can be viewed on an iPod with video, iPhone, Mac or PC or on a widescreen TV with Apple TV, with new releases priced at $14.99 and most catalog titles at $9.99.

Netflix announced Q1 numbers and offers now over 100,000 DVD Movies
Netflix now has over 100,000 Movies in their movie rental offering. Their instant online offering features over 8,000 titles.
Netflix also just released good numbers for the first Quarter of 2008. Netflix ended the first quarter of 2008 with approximately 8,243,000 total subscribers, representing 21% year-over-year growth from 6,797,000 total subscribers at the end of the first quarter of 2007 and 10% sequential growth from 7,479,000 subscribers at the end of the fourth quarter of 2007.
